74 /100 538 BROAD STREET Nice brewery and tasting room in downtown Newark. Large space. 12 to 14 taps include several IPA’s, Kolsch, Pale Ale, Sour, Wheat, Porter, Lager and a Belgian Triple. Friendly staff. Nice ambiance. |
72 /100 CoolVines Newark (Beer Store) 625 BROAD ST #110 Last stop on my EWR 1 day layover. Wine and beer store, with decent selection from US and abroad, good prices. but did not spend to much time looking due to schedule. They do have a bar with 5 taps and wine tasters. 8$ a pint of Equilibrium, yessir. Located in a mall with a Whole Foods, this can be a good place for someone staying a few days in the area. |
78 /100 538 BROAD STREET A cool brewery in downtown Newark, in an old building which was inncocupied for more than 10 years. Place is huge, high ceiling, lots of seating place at tables and bar. Service was excellent. Limited food selection of sandwiches. Flight of 4 for 10$. Beers were solid to excellent, especially like the Train Wreck. |
52 /100 McGinley’s Irish Pub (Bar) NEWARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL B Not a great selection and the food selection is limited and pricey. Service is good and worth it if you have time to kill. |
52 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 Difficult to rate, it’s not a beer destination but if you are at the airport and in need for a nice ipa you can have a fresh 90 minutes or sculpin. Many of the 12 taps out on my visit. Order on iPads |
54 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 Newish bar in the C terminal of Newark, where Samuel Adams used to be. Lots of craft beer on tap and plenty of bottles. Food looks decent and nifty ipads remind you when your boarding commences. |
64 /100 MMM Bello’s (Bar) 376 MARKET ST Bar has weird hours.(weekdays and sometimes open for weekend events at prudential) Nothing real interesting on draft. Long bottle list, although no stand outs. |
42 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 A way to kill some time at Newark, not much more. Six taps, a small bar, some tables. Overlooks gate 110. Not much else to say. |
64 /100 Belgian Beer Cafe (Restaurant) 1 BREWSTER RD We got to the airport fairly early, particularly since there was almost no security line at Terminal B. I had hoped to have lunch at the Belgian Beer Cafe just past security but discovered it did not open until 1:00, and our flight was boarding at 1:30. We opted to eat at the only place that was open (okay but pricey) but came back here for a very quick beer after they opened. It was pretty nice for an airport bar, pretty much what you would expect from a Belgian cafe meets airport bar actually. A tad pricey ($11.24 for a glass of La Chouffe!) they had the likes of Chouffe, Leffe, Palm and similar on tap. (All InBev products? Not sure.) Their website suggests a large bottle list but I didn’t actually check while there. I am glad we went but the prices mean that you would really have to want a beer to make a habit of it. |
46 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 Popped by here for 1 beer (SA cherry Wheat) prior to my flight back in ’09.
Typical airport bar, no discernable ambience but clean and plesant enough. Service was fine although I wasn’t eating and looking at the range to my left as I type there wasn’t any of these to be seen, just the usual suspects and the Cherry Wheat which was a winner! That said I only had a quick 20 minutes an didn’t look at bottled options so perhaps that’s where the majority of interesting offerings lie? Ok for an airport I guess but expect to pay airport $$$! |
32 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 Was pretty disappointed by this bar. I had a 7 hour stay at this Terminal (5 hour flight delay) and there and they only had the most common Sam Adams on offer. None of the beers available that others have added below. Perhaps next time... |
52 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 saw 5 taps including a seasonal. In Terminal B, convenient for Porter passengers flying back from Toronto. |
50 /100 NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - CONCOURSE C-2 about what you should expect from an airport brewpub bar - limited seating, burger/sandwiches on the menu, and 4-5 of their more common beers: Boston Ale, Alpine Spring, Cherry Wheat and something else. with the closure of the Brooklyn Brewery bar in Terminal C this is pretty much the only worthy beer destination in the airport. |
66 /100 MMM Bello’s (Bar) 376 MARKET ST Small local bar on the edge of the Ironbound district in Newark. A stone’s throw from where I work, this place has been around for years and has good pub food. Large bottle list, and a handful of taps with good beer but, unfortunately, lines that are not cleaned very often. I enjoy the spot but generally stick to the bottles or the tap IPAs because I’ve had too many sour line beers here. Still worth a quick stop if you’re at Newark Penn. |
70 /100 McGovern’s Tavern (Bar) 58-60 NEW STREET a run of the mill Irish type bar which is to say that the place is clean and the food is good and also the behavior is appropriate but not stuffy. there are several different brews and a few craft type bottles. i remember having probably one of the best fish dishes i have ever had from a bar. as one might expect from the folks in Newark there is good value for your money. there is a dining room off to the side. wood paneled with walls of memorabilia. my wife even liked the place, and that ain’t easy. |
76 /100 MMM Bello’s (Bar) 376 MARKET ST My local neighborhood joint. And for Newark, a diamond in the rough. Probably around 200 bottle available, mostly domestic craft beers and world lagers, nothing ridiculous. They do have a rotating seasonal selection and occasionally bring in stuff I’ve never head. 10 draft lines, including Smuttynose IPA. Genuine neighborhood bar atmosphere, lots of regulars. Service is awesome. Great bartenders who are friendly and not afraid to banter and give you shit. Manny, John, Peggy, Raquel, Julia, the whole gang, they’re all awesome. Manny does a great job with the food. Anything off the menu will be good, but ask for the specials, Manny usually cooks up something interesting and delicious. In sum, obviously not a destination place given its proximity to NYC, but if you ever find yourself in Newark, or waiting for a train at Newark Penn Station, it is absolutely worth hopping over to Bello’s for a quick beer. |
76 /100 McGovern’s Tavern (Bar) 58-60 NEW STREET A good drinking hole. Standard beers on tap. Great food on the menu. Gets livelier during the week and during happy hour then weekends. good place to go for a few beers. |
74 /100 McGovern’s Tavern (Bar) 58-60 NEW STREET Great Irish Tavern in the University Heights section of Newark, NJ. Good selection of beer, clean lines, several craft beers available at different times - Sam Seasonal, Brooklyn Lager, also imports like Smithwick’s, Harp, Guiness, etc. A great spot to eat good, solid tavern fare meals at reasonable prices. |
70 /100 MMM Bello’s (Bar) 376 MARKET ST Typical neighbourhood pub, with good selcetion of decent beers: Stone, Anchor, Flying Fish, Duvel, Grimbergen, Samuel Smith. A few taps, mainly macros. Service was friendly. This place is close to Newark Penn Station, and probably the only good beer bar in Newark. |
