“A serendipitous find in Blenheim. Mackenzie and I were hungry and I was thirsty after out early morning ferry. Not too far from Picton. Nice outside space and really nice interior - decor has a NZ meets Germany vibe, unsurprisingly. Home of Renaissance brewery, so half of their extensive taps are from them, the others tend to be locals as well. Great food too.“

“Old-fashioned German owned pub in German style with a soul, so different from modern plastic bars that serve craft beers at 2 degrees Celsius. My favourite pub in NZ.“

“Very large place, just outside of town. German vibe. Cool outdoor space. Only Renaissance beers on tap, but they must have had 25 different ones. My 200ml pours were HUGE. Good prices, friendly German staff.“

“Authentically hipster spot in downtown Blenheim. Had 5 beers on tap, more in bottles, some cider too. $5USD for a large pint. Friendly staff, cool vibe. Delicious taco truck inside the space. If you are in town, stop here.“

“A great location with an incredible ambiance very picturesque. The flights are generous with an adequate amount to sample. The food is good and the beer decent and my wife was able to get a glass of wine.“

“Was better than expected for such a big brewery, but still kind of a marketing show off place, lacking of a brewery spirit I'd say. They have pretty decent beer I have to say, their chocolate stout is pretty good. And the food truck is making really good burgers, so that helps too !“

“Liked this place a lot. recommend the german food (owner is probably german, at least he looks like he is, and the german food was really good !). Beer selection, despite a high number of tap (15 or 20 ?) was a bit disappointing. Nothing truly amazing, but all pretty good.“

“Incredible location surrounded by vineyards with the mountains in the background. Perfect sat outside on bean bags drinking a few beers in the sunshine. A tasting of 6 beers is available for $8, though you get no say in what you taste (though the staff seem to make it up as they go along), and I got a cider to start. Never been a big fan of Moa’s beers, and I only really enjoyed one or two of my tasting set. Bottle selection is large, though nothing I haven’t seen in my local liquor store in Auckland. Enjoyed it a lot less than all the wineries I went to before.“

“Slightly tricky to find on the outskirts of Blenheim. Was looking forward to trying a good range of Renaissance beers as the brewery is right next door, and as recommended by Renaissance. I counted 22 taps, 2 with Hofbrau (as the owner is German), the rest with NZ ’craft’ beers. Only 5 Renaissance beers on draught ranging from a 2.2% Session PA to a 7.5% Scotch Ale. Tasting paddles vailable; just choose any 5 beers for NZ$10. Food selection is predominantly German with some English dishes and pizzas. Pretty average deep fired stuff etc. As this is an independent pub, they are under no obligation to carry any Renaissance beers so you just have to hope for the best, and that they will stay friendly neighbours.“

“I would like to live in Blenheim just to be able to frequent this place often. Fairly decent range of nice beers that I got on a tasting paddle of 5 beers. The pizzas were very nice although a bit pricey. Friendly (for a German :>) proprietor. English pub feel to interior, pleasant beer garden. Lots of space inside and out. Great place to get Renaissance beers fresh.“

“Driving through the wineries I suddenly spotted a sign saying ’Moa’, turned down a narrow road and there it is. A brewery totally surrounded by vineyards! Only sells Moa of course but big range (lots of stuff I’d never seen) We sat outside on beanbags in the glorious Marlborough sunshine and had a beer and listened to the silence. You can see the actual brewery/bottling plant through a window and they were busy when we were there. A bit off the beaten track but worth it.“

“Visited on a Monday night and it was surprisingly busy considering it is down a suburban street on the outskirts of a small New Zealand provincial town. Excellent range of beer, happy informative staff and an open fire! For dinner my wife had pork schnitzel with hunter sauce and I had rouladen. Arguably the best food we had on our entire holiday. Great place.“

“Dropped by on a Tuesday afternoon and enjoyed a tasty meal with a few quenching beers in the garden. Selection and service were excellent - one of the best I experienced during a South Island trip. Highly recommended.“

“I went there for the 8 Wired tap selection and was not disappointed. After going through all those the staff was helpful with recommending other taps and bottles. Not a huge selection, but interesting nonetheless.“

“Catering to the Malrborough wine tourists passing through the area, Moa offers a small tasting room with a half-dozen taps, two of which may be cider. Bottles are available to go in various sizes, though they have no coolers so you’re rolling the dice. Not a place to sit for a pint, but to sample and move on to the next spot.“

“On the grounds of Renaissance Brewing is the Dodson Street Beer Garden, a German-themed restaurant/bar with over 20 taps that include a few one-offs. Inside you have a German Stube atmosphere with vaulted ceilings and long community tables, while outside they maintain a pretty grounds full of tables and benches and birdbaths and a giant chess set. Beer quality was decent though nothing I had seemed to wow me. Friendly hausfrau during my early afternoon visit was full of smiles and didn’t act inconvenienced in the least, which definitely reminds you that you’re drinking in New Zealand and not Germany. Certainly worth a stop if you’re in Marlborough.“

“This place has a reasonable selection of Renaissance bottles, so it’s a good choice if the bottle shop is closed.“

“This is a little piece of Deutschland on the South Island, not just because of the bierkeller and biergarten atmosphere and the traditional German food menu, but also because the proprietors hail from Germany. It’s basically the brewery tap for Renaissance and has a huge number from that range, with the brewery equipment visible through a window. Well worth a stop.“

“I was passing through Blenheim with Mrs Jimthechap and saw this place and ducked in for a perusal. Excellent support of local brewers with some other South Island microbrews as well. What really got my attention was some foreign beers that I had never seen before and were not available through my usual channels. Oh, there were some wines and spirits there as well. Reasonable pricing and a nice clean environment without being sterile.“

“Great beer garden with giant chess set. Interesting old building gives a British pub feel downstairs. Nice to be able to see what’s brewing at Renaissance brewery next door. New owners (spring 2012) means they are the most reliable in Blenheim for being open when they say they will be.“

“A proper country pub with a steadily improving selection of craft beer on tap. There’s the regular lineup of beers from local breweries Renaissance and 8 Wired, and their seasonal and one-off brews make an appearance. I’d like to see more micros being poured here though. No bottles from micros in the fridges yet. Food has an Asian influence and it’s very tasty and great value. Fireplace, free pool table, can get quite lively with the backpackers upstairs during season. Pleasant outdoor garden area. Well worth a look-in.“

“Now reopened under new management. A German themed pub/restaurant with the full Renaissance range on tap and guests from Emersons, Mussel Inn and Dales. Opposite the Renaissance brewery, the kit can be seen through the window. Cozy wooden interior and huge garden area outside. Pizzas remain on the menu, accompanied by German dishes, naturally.“

“Some nice surprises here. Yeah it’s a supermarket so not sure how that translates to points, but whatever, it does result in pretty good prices. Nice selection of local brews inc. seasonals. Belgian ales - Orval, Dupont, 3F etc.and US micros such as Port, Ommegang, SN etc. Huge wine selection too.“

“When we got there the place seemed closed, but we were lucky; the owner was just checking the installation in the holiday season and showed us around. Friendly chap, even got some free beers. And well the Renaissance beers are some of the best in New Zealand, so that’s just great. :-)“

“This place is located a few miles outside Blenheim, and is definitely worth a visit. It is in the middle of the vineyards, which is just cool. Nice to sit outside and drink the great beers available overhere. Just take your time. Didn’t try the food.“

“Obviously filled with human detritus, sweaty, tattooed, selfish and all walking very slowly in front of me. Excellent beer selection of local, national, mainstream, craft and exotic beers and prices that weren’t overly eyewatering.“

“Bar/restaurant serving local micros on draught and by the bottle. Moa and 8 Wired are permanently on tap. Bottles included Moa, 8 Wired, Renaissance, Epic, Invercargill, and Tuatara (about 20+ bottles). There was even a few seasonals available too. Pleasant service. Good food. The kind of place on a warm day you can easily spend hours enjoying the beers.“

“The brewery and tasting room is about a 10 minute drive west of Blenheim town centre, surrounded by vinyards as this is actually home to some to NZ’s best wine. The cellar door is open most days and for a few bucks can get samples of six Moa beers. It’s worth asking if there’s any seasonals lying around, you may be lucky.“
