74 /100 274 COLUMBIA AVENUE Visited with Adam K, cheers! Long bar and a bunch of restaurant tables in a modern-appearing taproom in intimate connection to the brewhouse. In a light industrial area with plenty of parking. Staff were pleasant, maybe a bit too enthusiastic, but that's easy to forgive this early in their history. No food. Eight taps of their beers (one was empty) plus one guest tap and two ciders, flights of four possible. Another decent addition to Rock Hill. |
70 /100 121 CALDWELL ST Right next to Millstone pizza. Plenty of parking since it's in a stripmall just a block from downtown. They were doing yoga when I walked in and I was worried that I would have to join in in order to get a beer, but I escaped unscathed. Long bar, bar tables, restaurant tables and the interior is open to the 10 barrel brewhouse. Lots of flat screen TVs, pretty much mandatory in bars in this area. Five beers on tap, flights of four available - I hate it when the math doesn't work. Beers are served from five large serving/bright tanks behind the bar. So since they're locked into five beers for the foreseeable future I'd like to see them offer flights of five. Sacrilege, I know. No food of course but you can get a pizza from next door (the taplist at Millstone is interesting, though, so you might just want to eat there even though the pizza is just OK). Beers are tasty and pretty creative - at least they're not all IPAs. Very friendly service. Worth a trip to Rock Hill to try this place, and Amor Artis on your way to/from Charlotte. |
62 /100 130 W WHITE ST. Medium sized place in an old mill, and a nice reconstruction, with original wood floors at least. Small bar in the center with just three stools. Scattered restaurant and bar tables. Across from the bar is the small system (two barrels I think, more of a large homebrew system). The owner is a former Dust Off pilot, and he hired a brewer. Seven house beers on offer and somebody else's cider. Flights of four are possible. No food other than free cookies. Beers are OK considering the small system. Not worth going out of your way to try, but if you're in Rock Hill anyway, it's a short distance from downtown (but a difficult walk because of the usual no sidewalks, hi speed drivers, and in this case also railroad tracks and road construction. Interesting coffee place next door is expanding to include a virtual reality exploration of coffee farms they work with, so that will be worth the trip when it opens. |
72 /100 Millstone Pizza and Taphouse (Restaurant) 121 CALDWELL ST Visited with Franco. Strip mall location just a block from Main Street, so the large parking lot is a convenient place to leave your car no matter where in town you're visiting. Small bar on the right and restaurant tables, covered patio as well. New brewery (Rock Hill Brewing) being constructed next door, yay. Pizza is wood fired, tasty, and more or less genuine Italian, the owner being from Calabria. 40 taps of fairly interesting stuff, a decent selection of South Carolina brews. Flights of four 4 ounce pours available. Friendly service. One table of noisy kids, not too bad. A convenient stop especially when Rock Hill Brewing opens. |
80 /100 129 OAKLAND AVE Quite nice modern space, lovely patio where we ate. Food was quite good and enjoyable although kids menu left something to be desired. Lots of beers on tap I would have loved to try a lot of them the two I had quite good. Our server unfortunately was not good our beers came out after entres he was a bit of frazzled mess. But defenitely a place I'd recommend. |
74 /100 129 OAKLAND AVE This is a good visit in Rock Hill - plenty of indoor and outdoor shaded seating, plus a bar. The beer selection is a wide range of a couple dozen of their own brews. The food leans toward BBQ/smoked (pulled pork, brisket) with a dose of German (schnitzel, bratwurst), all in generous portions. Everything we had was good, in particular the smoked meats. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and present. Overall a worthy stop. |
80 /100 Grapevine - Rock Hill (Beer Store) 829 TERRACE PARK The location is the thing here - overlooking the Catawba River and the hiking trail that runs along the banks. In a newer housing area. Nice outdoor seats with multiple cozy fires. Inside is a long bar and restaurant tables. Beer store is on the left and they had quite a few local brews from SC - I found some of the Benford beers I was looking for. One shelf dedicated to Belgian stuff, including some of the more mainstream gueuzes. Charcuterie and cheese plates and other such snacks are available and were tasty. Twenty or so beers on draft, just a few local things, available in full pours or flights of four for eight bucks. Service is very friendly, as were the other clientele. Street parking only, but there was plenty. Nice stop, combined with a short or long river visit. |
46 /100 Brand Spirits (Beer Store) 1323 CHERRY RD Just up the road from Legal Remedy. Large parking lot. Mainly macro stuff. The usual suspects in craft found in these parts, nothing too exciting. Good prices. Not worth leaving your route. |
74 /100 Main Street Bottle Shop (Beer Store) 153 E. MAIN STREET Found this place while walking around downtown after visiting Legal Remedy. Small place right on the main drag. A dozen taps, I love that about bottle shops here. Small but interesting selection of beers from the region and the world, including some I had not seen elsewhere. Owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. An easy stop while visiting Legal Remedy, five minutes walk. Downtown was blocked off for Oktoberfest, so I’m not sure how parking is normally. |
58 /100 Earth Fare - Rock Hill (Grocery Store) 725 CHERRY ROAD Grocery store. Beer selection is in the rear on the right. Selection and prices were OK. I must have missed the cafe. |
80 /100 129 OAKLAND AVE This is a large place that looks like it was an old service station or similar. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are very large, and on good weather days they’re wide open to each other, creating a really open and inviting atmosphere. There is also a regular bar inside for us traditionalists. Parking is abundant, just watch for signs and avoid parking at the business next door. They were doing an Oktoberfest themed thing when I visited, so the food was all tasty German comfort food. All staff members had something German on, even if touristy, except for one guy who looked like he just stepped off the boat from Ireland. There are TVs scattered everywhere, so a bit of next twisting is involved if you want to watch football. They had a massive 24 of their own beers on tap. The advantage of this is that they had something to please everyone. The big disadvantage is that they were all mediocre, except one Czech style pilsner which was very tasty. Hopefully they’re picking a handful to perfect. Flights of four are available, just come with friends. Worth going back to see if that happens. |
80 /100 129 OAKLAND AVE Large brewpub with outdoor fireplaces. Great atmosphere. Beers were okay. Nothing special, but there were a lot of options. Food was quite good. Worth a stop to eat and tick. |
44 /100 Brand Spirits (Beer Store) 1323 CHERRY RD Small convenience/beer store attached to a wine/spirits store. The store opened the day after prohibition ended. Mostly macros and mixers, but a nice little craft selection. 100 craft beers I guess. |
66 /100 Earth Fare - Rock Hill (Grocery Store) 725 CHERRY ROAD Nice Grocery Store with cafe. Beer selection is one of the best I’ve ever seen in South Carolina groceries. More craft brew than macro. A little pricey. Rogue, North Coast, Stoudts, Czech Pils, Organics, etc. Don’t drive out off your way, but if you are in the area..this is your best choice. |
