72 /100 Twiggs American Gastropub (Restaurant) 24 NORTH MAIN ST Nice place right in the middle of Main Street, parking was easy to find a block or so away. Two entrances, the one I used seemed to be for take-away, but they both connect anyway. There's a bar on both sides plus restaurant booths. Service was quick, friendly, efficient. Food was very tasty with a good variety. Taplist was fine, about a dozen offerings, almost half macro stuff but the rest were decent local breweries. Best part is that it was by far the cheapest meal of my entire Vermont trip. Worth stopping for a meal if passing through or nearby. |
76 /100 #150 St. Albans Jolley (Beer Store) 711 FAIRFAX RD stopped here on way back to Montreal just to fill up. What a good surprise when I saw the beer cave in the walk in at the back of the store! Pretty big selection of NE beers, sold in 4 packs but you could split them with a small upcharge. Nice deli…a must on the way back to the border. |
80 /100 133 NORTH MAIN STREET, #7 Drove up immediately after landing at BTV. The location is basically a strip mall, which is not ideal, but inside its nice enough, well layed out with a central bar. Beer list on the wall behind. No food. Good Service. Flights available, with a decent selection of styles; IPAs and a couple of sour offerings with a few "other" sprinkled in, including a craft pale lager. Several offerings available in 4 pack 16 oz cans to go as well as growlers of most. Beer quality was solid, which is no surprise in Vermont. The "Vermonter Weiss" was an excellent no-frills Berliner. Mega-Crushable. |
74 /100 #150 St. Albans Jolley (Beer Store) 711 FAIRFAX RD Sort of funny to add a chain gas station location to the database but this is a legit store. There’s a tiny shrine to craft beer above a road trinkets display case showing off a Pliny bottle and a Bourbon County box; someone who works here, a manager probably (?), is into it. Selection of specialty large format bottles in fridges featuring Cambridge, Mystic, Lost Nation, Alesmith and other such high quality. A massive walk-in cooler reveals an enormous selection of mostly local, smaller range of regional stuff, mostly in cans; some of this is split up into singles as well. It’s honestly a really wide selection; I had to dig through for a bit before reaching a decision, and the shelves could be a little more organized. I did need help for a brief minute but couldn’t find anyone, but was also passing through at 9 in the morning. As a last-ditch beer stop approaching the Canadian border it’d be hard to do better than this little convenience store option, thirty seconds off the interstate. |
70 /100 84 Main Sports Grill (Bar) 84 NORTH MAIN STREET You’re probably not going to find much else in St. Albans, but I don’t mind this place when I’m in the area. Pretty clean and they’re learning that pint glasses are a respectable glassware for some styles, (not sure why people think every beer needs to be served in stemware, anyways, those people are so misinformed), but pretty good service here. Taps stick mainly to Vermont beers nowadays. |
66 /100 Twiggs American Gastropub (Restaurant) 24 NORTH MAIN ST Good place, quick service. Fairly clean, easy to take kids. Somewhat loud but I didn’t mind. Pub type of food - large portions for most items. Willing to go back when I’m in the area, not exactly a place to seek out though. |
54 /100 Beverage Mart (Beer Store) 211 LAKE STREET Been here a couple of times. It’s decent. Obviously, they have the 14th Star beers. Had more BMC beers a while ago, but starting to get better. It’s St Albans, so, not a beer desert, but well, probably you’re best option for some bottles, just don’t expect to be enthralled. |
88 /100 133 NORTH MAIN STREET, #7 Visited on 7-15. Really nice place inside. Big and roomy, long tables on the one side, bar in the middle, small cool designed tables on the other side next to large glass windows looking into the brewery. Really cool metal pipe design over the bar too. Server was really friendly and we each got a flight based on her recommendation. Selection was good, I think 8 to 10 of their beers were available. Free food was a plus! Meat and cheese tray, crackers, and fresh popcorn. Nothing wrong with snacks when you’re having beers! Value was good and well priced. They had cans and bottles to go sales too. Really liked this brewery. |
86 /100 Twiggs American Gastropub (Restaurant) 24 NORTH MAIN ST Visited for the first time this weekend. Fairly new... open about 6 months or so. Good selection of food and service was both prompt and excellent. They have about 10 taps with a mix of local/regional crafts as well as some megas. My friend and I took on the "Buddy Challenge"... 5lbs fries, 1lb chili, 1lb bacon and 1lb cheese beer sauce... over 8lbs of food... and won!! Great time... way too much to eat... but we’ll be back!! |
