“Nice big ale house in downtown Fredericksburg. Definitely a place to stop in for the huge selection of beer. The food ranges from okay to very good. The mussels are the latter. I wanted the beef ribs to be very good as well, but they could use some longer/slower cooking to render the fat better. The service is just okay, and the unavailable items on both food and beer menus attributed to a lower score. Still a nice experience overall.“

“First stop coming into F'burg. A small strip mall storefront, with some large logos on the windows. Kind of tight and small inside with a large L shaped bar. A few scattered tables and some pinball machiines. Fire department theme throughout. Small outdoot seating area through the back door, has some natural shade.“

“Located south of town in an industrial park area. Pretty non-descript exterior, and kind of shabby at that. Patio did not look very appealing, makeshift shades and some tables. Inside was a different story, neat and clean, new furniture. Big bar and a whole slew of taps. Even better, there was a bluegrass jam session going on which added a really nice vibe. Facility is a diamond in the rough, and the beer needs some work.“

“Ambiance: HUGE (for a craft brewery) warehouse in an industrial park in Fredericksburg. Cavernous interior and tons of seating outside. This place feels like it could serve 500 people at once. Fun and quirky colors, seating, a kitschy stuff everywhere give the space a bit of character. Looked like some pinball machines in the corner, and they had old funky restaurant booths set up only feet away from the brewing equipment. Service: Perfectly fine. Selection: One of the larger lists I've ever seen at a craft brewery. Maybe 50 taps? There were a ton of things I wanted to try, and they seemed to touch on all styles. Lots of IPAs and sours. I tried 5, and they went 3.5, 4, 3.5, 3.5, 4. I'd call that good to very good. Food: The usual--no in-house food (although the flight came with complimentary peanuts!) except for a few little snacks, but plenty of space for food trucks. Value: Slightly pricier than the other two places we went, but in line with the normal range. Overall: My favorite by far of the places we tried on the day. Spacious, fun atmosphere, with tons of beers to choose from. Definitely a must-visit in Fredericksburg.“

“Ambiance: Typical small brewery industrial strip setting. Small front room, maybe seating for 20-30 if you pack 'em in. All firefighter themed of course. Industrial, and slightly sticky feeling. They are able to use part of the parking lot for outside seating, and there's a large greensward in the front of the strip where they can set up fairs and activities. There was what appeared to be a flea market set up the day we went. Service: Friendly and prompt, happy to talk beer. Selection: About 20 beers on, ranging in styles but almost all in the ale family (one Helles). Had a sampler of six on a really cool maltese cross serving board. They went 3.5/5, 3.5/5, 3/5, 2/5, 3.5/5, and 3/5. So I'd call it average to good. Food: They had a food truck outside, and what looked like a local restaurant had set up a small catering-style food area. Price: Extremely reasonable. Overall: Probably worth checking out at least to try it.“

“Have never been to a bar with such horrible service. And usually I don't really care, but the female bartender here basically acted like "why are you here" from the moment we walked in last night. Ordered a flight with all the beers on tap and she literally rolled her eyes. OK. Clientele was at least friendly, sharing shots during the Caps game. Beer was mostly not great, with a couple of above average brews. I really can't recommend this place, especially with Spencer Devon and Red Dragon so close by. Had some mozza sticks which were alright“

“Cool shop with friendly staff. Lots of cans of good NE style IPAs from Commonwealth, Aslin, etc. Growlers ffrom them and the same. Some foreign stuff but mostly local. Almost no bottles, just cans. Prices better than D.C. shops for the most part.“

“Right in downtown Frederiksburg, this is a logical stop between DC and Richmond. There is street parking, but might be difficult to find a spot. A dozen taps, with flights of 4 x 6 oz pours available for $11, or 6 x 6 oz pours for $15 - too much. Beer quality was subpar, with a couple drinkable ones and some infected ones. Friendly but inattentive service. Nothing special here.“

“Cool brewpub in downtown Fredericksburg. Had about 10-15 taps when I visited. Stuff was brewed to style, with no major flaws and a couple of good entries. Friendly staff and cool vibe with local art hanging on the walls and such. I think they have live music here sometimes. They do flights as well.“

Nice spot right in the main historic part of town. We came by for lunch and the food was pretty good. Place was fairly crowded considering the time of day. Beers were pretty good too. Service was fine. Definitely a nice spot, exceeded my expectations.“

“Visit Date: 11/10/17
Pretty huge spot in a warehouse district / office building type area. Big bar all the way in the back for the beer service. Closer to the entrance they had a permanent version of what I assume is a local food truck in there for food, looked solid, but we didn't try the food, so I cannot comment on the quality. In fairly early on a weekday, so the places was fairly uncrowded. Tried 6 beers, all were okay, none were too exciting. Wouldn't call this a destination by any means, but it could be a fun place to hangout and grab a few beers and a bite if you are already in the area.“

“This store is cleaner than some, but not as nice as others. Lots of holes in the singles area, and it seemed somewhat disorganized. However, they have a shitload of single beers, so I can’t imagine not giving the selection rating a high mark. Service was nothing... I didn’t see anyone until I was checking out, and I was shopping for an hour. I found some stuff I don’t see in Charlottesville, and the same chain didn’t have at two of their Richmond locations, so that’s a plus.“

“NOTE: Google Maps took me to the shopping center past this place and then couldn’t come up with a new route, so I did a u-turn and pulled into the shopping center before. I don’t think there was a sign on the road. Anyway, from the outside in the shopping center, I wasn’t expecting much. However, inside is a nice large room with a decent sized bar (cement top, which I have been considering doing in my kitchen as a side note). They also sell cigars. Busy for a Saturday afternoon and people were friendly (both the bartenders and clientele). Because they were busy, I didn’t get much chit-chart about the beers or the place - which is fine - I didn’t mind it. Now if they were standing around texting or doing nothing,t his would have been an issue. Anyway, beers were all solid. Food truck available, and it smelled good, but I didn’t have any. The bartender had no problem with me asking to sample all, rather than stick to a traditional flight. Edited to add: February 4, 2017 was their grand opening.“

“Neat second floor location that was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. Did not try the food, though was asked twice if I was ready to order. The good: nice looking place - large bar both in front and on the side, clean, modern. The beer is all solid + - they know what they’re doing there. 10 on tap. The bad: the service absolutely sucked... and I hate that, especially in a place where the beer turns out to be quite good. I sat at the bar and was approached by a rather attractive bartender a few minutes in asking if I was "still doing ok?" Well, I just sat down and I didn’t have anything, so I guess I need a menu. I explained I’d like to try 9 of the 10 (as I’d had the pils before), and she explained to me that the largest flight was 6, but I could purchase both the flight of four and the flight of six if I wanted to try all 9. I mentioned that I was hitting a bunch of breweries and I wasn’t looking to get drunk - I wasn’t even going to drink the full flight pours - I was really more interesting in tasting (similar to wine tasting but for beer). Made no difference. So flight of six it is: "which 6 do you want?" I chose, thinking, hoping, she’d see what I was doing and offer me little samples of the last three. No. With a couple sips of each of the 6, I paid $16.20 before tip for the flight. That’s a bit on the high side for a flight of 6 anyway, in my opinion. One of the few places not willing to work with me too... I’ll stop back and hope for better service if I’m ever in the area. EDITED TO ADD: she saw me taking notes and still no room for anything. I wrote "service is lacking" on the top of the page as she was delivering my flight.“

“I visited for Sunday brunch ... all good! Some quality brews in a wide variety available, and all 5 I sampled were good to very good. The brunch was ample, farm-to-table, and delicious. The staff was a bit aloof, but took good care of me. Interesting space in a historic area of Fredericksburg. I’d definitely be hitting this place frequently if I was closer. Brewery #802.“

“Just happened to be randomly driving by this place a few weeks ago, and thought I spotted a brewery. When driving by the same stretch of road again this past weekend, I saw the brewery again. It’s been open since February of this year. Place is decently sized, standard large warehouse brewery. Staff was really nice. I got there about 30 minutes after they opened and there were a few tables filled up, with people constantly coming in and out with growlers. Beer was really well put together, properly to style, which was nice. They appear to usually have 8 beers on tap, but they were sold out of one of their core beers at the time of visiting. One specialty beer was surprisingly good. I’ll have to stop on by here again.“

“In a small light industrial commercial center, a bit south of downtown. It’s small, at least the front of the house is. Room with games and extra seating in the back with the fermenters. Staff was very nice.

Beer ranged from pretty good to okay. Perhaps a touch refinement needed, but they seem to be into experimenting, so even with a few of them needing some tweaking, they were definitely worth drinking. Personally, they seemed to have a good handle on their hopped beers, and their porters and stouts.“

“This is a very cool, relatively new place that is located in downtown Fredericksburg. Surrounding area is quite nice. Restaurant and bar wrap around the brewery equipment, separated by glass.

Beers were good, a few tasty hop beers. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Food looked good, but we didn’t eat when we went there. Taster flights came in sets of pick-your-own 4 or 6.“

“This is new brewey just outside of Fredericksburg, near the airport. They had a food truck available for food on our visit. Local people have found this small brewer. This is worth a stop and relax and enjoy a good selection of beers. A firefighter family has started this brewery. The Maltese Cross has an association with firefighters across the US.“

“Visited on a trip back to town on the day before Thanksgiving. The space is beautiful. Before the brewery the building was a frat-boy dive bar, then sat vacant. They’ve done wonderful things with the interior. Rustic yet modern. Fits the downtown vibe well. Spacious bar area along with booths and tables. Great variety on draft, plus wine and spirits/cocktails. I had a flight of four 6 oz. pours. The flight pours are quite large, which ups the price of a flight compared to many other breweries that typically do a 4 oz. pour. Beers were very solid. We didn’t have food, but the menu looks great. Lots of local products offered. Can’t wait for a chance to visit again.“

“This location was recommended by a co-worker. The food was excellent. The restaurant is located in a former JC Penny retail store on George St downtown. Nice interior with a large bar in the center of the restaurant. There is a basement for future plans. The beers were good and there are others planned for the future. They have been opened for four months. This is worth a visit.“

“This is a new place, sparse modern design with a large characterful wooden L-shaped bar with the brewhouse visible behind the bar. It’s located just off the touristy center, so street parking was easy on a Sunday at lunchtime. You could also park near the park, on your right as you approach the town from I-95, and walk along the river for twenty minutes - that gives you an idea of what things must have looked like during the Civil War battle. The beers, by the way, are solid, and the food is tasty and creative. Service was good, and most clientele were local. Worth the quick and easy detour off I-95.“

“This place is a beer lovers dream. Honestly it is hard to beat the Capital Ale House in downtown Fredericksburg but this place gives is a run for its money. An Irish pub this place has a huge selection of tap beers and even more bottles. Honestly I never get past the taps because they are always so good. They change regularly which is nice and usually have several seasonal beers on tap. Always got one cask conditioned ale as well. They do traditional Irish/British layered beers as well, 9 on the menu. The food is great here as well, not a large selection of food but it is well prepared. They also do a weekly steal the glass night on Wednesdays. They partner with a brewer and when you order a glass of there beer you get to take the glass home with you. Also have a beer club, this gets you a 25oz pour for the price of 20oz (yearly membership fee associated with this). Live music regularly and they St. Patrick’s Day party is awesome.“

“This is a Tap Room in downtown Fredericksburg. The food and service was excellent. They serve 8 oz glasses for more beer tasting. The bar room was out of the movies. Pictures and advertisement for Guinness were on the walls. There is a large open area behind the restaurant with tables and umbrellas. The beer list had both ales on tap and in bottles. “Place has gone downhill beerwise. I think they were a bit optimistic about the average local beer drinker here. Plenty of good stuff still, but pretty sure a lot of it has been sitting on the shelves since Day 1. And as a result, what started as a welcomed great selection has become stagnant. And they have a register station the beer section but it’s never open. That would be a really big convenience. If you’re in that area and looking for beer just drive the .5 mile or so down the road to Total Wine. -------------------------------------------- It’s a grocery store, but with a very large wine and beer selection. The beer is, like the wine, broken down by regions. Good selection of singles, packs, and mix-n-match sixers. Great prices (comparable to Total Wine, definitely better than the local guys can do on a lot of stuff.)“

“UPDATE: No longer doing retail sales. Expanded restaurant/bar area and continuing to serve good beer, but still mostly a fine and food place. -------------------------------------------- Great little shop/wine bar. Definitely a bigger emphasis on wine (because it’s the bigger seller) but the owner knows his beer and has a great selection of domestic micro-brews and imports. Have never had the food, but they run a full-service restaurant and also sell cheese and sausage in the market. Prices on single bottles are a little high, but it’s typically things I can’t find elsewhere.“

“We have been here numerous times with friends from Maryland and Northern Virginia. This is great stop half way between. The food is above average and the burgers arer great. The help are great at finding beers to please you. I have had in the past difficulty selecting beers that were all sold out. The bar is a curving one that fills the front room. The back rooms have plenty of seating and couches to just sit. The parking in Frederekickburg is generally not a problem. “

“This friendly, genuine butcher shop/small grocery store recently started carrying a variety of beer and so far so good! They make sure to carry mostly things that other shops in town don’t. They also carry a few macros, but the craft selection ranges from sixers of Boulevard and DFH to rare seasonals from Bruery and Mikkeller. Staff is friendly, though they aren’t all involved with the beer selection and sales, so not the place to go asking for suggestions. One employee actually asked if I really thought the beer I was buying was worth how much they were charging...“

“Located down the street from the Virginia Wine House this is, I’m guessing, the best place to go for a beer. The place is divided in thirds. The first third has a massive bar and a standing area as well as some tables. The second third is all tables, and the final third has couches and pool tables and dart boards. They have 40-50 taps, though nothing too outrageous or unusual, and about 300 bottles. The bar also has an ice rail built into to keep your drinks cold. We went on a Saturday night and the place can get kind of loud with a younger than typical crowd for craft beer. But they try and do right for the beer. One customer ordered an Allagash tripel and asked for a chilled glass. The bartender refused to get it explaining why it was stupid to spend that much for a beer and then put it in a container where you can’t taste it. For the area the place is something of a godsend and they have really good comfort food with some nice flourishes. My only real complaint is that a place this big should have more than 2 restrooms and they should be closer to the bar.“

“After schlepping to Wegman’s and Total Wine I wasn’t expecting this. It’s a combo wine store, beer store, and patio bar. The beer is most definitely in the basement. They have 3-4 coolers plus three large bookcases for sixers and large bottles. What they lacked in quantity they made up for in quality. They also had a number of Italian, French, and Quebec beers that no else in the region has which is always fun. Whoever their beer person is taking the gig seriously. Prices were good on somethings a bit over on others, but if I’m in the area I’ll definitely be back.“

“Larger beer selection then some of the wegmans Ive been to. The beer is organized by geography, for the most part. The unimpressive pick 6 section is at the end of the checkout lanes on the beer side of the store which is a little weird.
