“Cool place. Old building. Kind of on a side of a hill, narrow but ample parking spot. Staff keep was friendly and helpful. Lots of nooks and crannies to the place. Growlers available with a decent list. Lots of selections with a few rarities. Only knock on the place is prices are too high. But I guess I heard this is the richest town in Wisconsin, so....“

“Right in the town centre, steps from Cassanova Liquor Store, this is a fun place to grab a flight ($2-3 per 5 oz pour). Beer quality is pretty shoddy, but I enjoyed their IIPA. Service is okay. Worth a stop if you’re nearby but not a destination brewery.“

“What an awesome bottle shop. Beautiful setup and intimate atmosphere, with very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of New Glarus, Central Waters and other midwestern treats. Reasonably priced. Worth the trek over from MN to track down some New Glarus at the very least.“

“My go too place on the average day. They always have a great selection of beer and whiskey. They are starting to have more tastings also. They do very well at stocking local Wisconsin and Minnesota selections including crowlers from local breweries. They also give veterans a 10% discount with appropriate ID cards. Staff has always been fun and helpful.“

“A nice taproom right in Hudson with a game room and a good amount of seating. Large windows kept it bright and an outdoor seating area as well. Bartenders were friendly and knew the beers. They had around 10 beers on tap with small pours available. No food on site and prices were pretty reasonable.“

“Small, comfortable brewpub located in a strip mall close to I-94. This is one of those warm, unpretentious places where everybody seems to know each other. Plenty of locals rolled through during my visit to fill growlers and chat with the staff. The beer was solid, unexceptional stuff that didn’t move me either way. The 7-8 taps and firkin seemed to mostly focus on old world styles. Plenty of beers were also listed as ’coming soon’, so I get the impression that they actively experiment and shake things up. Prices were exceptionally reasonable (we’re talking $3 for a 20oz pour) and service was quite kind. Overall, this place won’t blow your doors off, but it’s a respectable local brewpub that’s worth a detour to check out.“

“Great liquor store located a short iron from the WI-MN border. The small space is packed with quality beer, much of it stuff you can’t find in Minnesota (New Glarus etc.). There’s probably 400 different beers available plus another 20 or so at the growler station. I’ve always found the staff to be bright and friendly. Prices are totally reasonable. Overall, this place is a must stop if you’re travelling past on 94.“

“Great selection of hard-to-find beers at good prices, definitely worth the trip when in Minneapolis or anywhere else nearby. Only complaint is products were not very well organized, as some things were stashed in strange places or could be found in different parts of the store in different formats.“

Stone Tap (Bar)
517 2ND ST
“I have been here several times and regret to say I don’t like it very much. Service is friendly. Beer selection is good but I have not seen anything very exciting. Awesome ambiance in the old building. I see this as more of a restaurant than a bar, and as a restaurant, I dislike the prices charged for very small portions. Both times I have been here, I left hungry.“

“A large warehouse style brewery in an industrial park. An open warehouse with a smallish bar up front and some assorted seating. Bartender was friendly and knew a bit about the beer. 6 beers on tap with a few bottles and a flight of the 6 available. No food on site and prices were pretty good. A pretty run of the mill brewery.“

“awesome place tucked away in Hudson, WI just across from MN and not too far from I-94. Workers were helpful, great selection of brews. Picked up TG PsuedoSue and they had tons of it. Also snagged an Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout. Prices were very fair.“

“Brewpub in a small strip mall a bit off the main road. A large bar fills the back of the room with some booths opposite. One of the brewers was working the bar and he was more than happy to talk beer. There were 7 beers on tap plus a cask. No food available but there is an Irish pub adjoining. Prices were good and flights were available. A cool little place.“

“What an amazing liquor store! An extremely helpful and happy to take the time to discuss beers. There are so many beers they a crammed in the store, but it has a nice feel to it overall. Selection is amazing and they have some nice beers on tap for growlers as well. Prices are good too! What a place, perhaps my favorite beer store in the US!“

“Short trip across the border from Minnesota. The store is attached to a restaurant but we skipped it and went straight to the beer. The store is kind of sectioned into three parts with wine and liquor in the two front parts with the beer in the back. There is plenty to choose from here from Toppling Goliath to Dog Fish Head to Evil Twin to Mikkeller to Haand Bryggeriet. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere close.“

Stone Tap (Bar)
517 2ND ST
“Nice little place. The original stone interior is comfortable and warm, but there’s a bit of blandness to the decor as well with the vinyl surface tables and chairs, etc. All micros on tap with a well thought out variance of selection. I did not eat, but based on the menu it is obvious that this would be a nice place for an evening out in Hudson. Happy hour food specials from 2-6 with beer deals as well.“

“Drove over from the Twin Cities specifically to find Toppling Goliath and New Glarus stuff.... and I found’ em! Not such a large store, but it is packed with all kinds of goodies. Maybe 300+ bombers, and who knows how many six-packs and singles. Also 22 growler taps -- all great stuff. The owner, Tyrrell, was friendly and efficient. A lot more here that I would have liked to have taken away, but there’s only so much I can carry on a plane.“

“For a brewery located in a commercial strip mall, this was a really nice surprise. Nice environment with a good bar plus some tables. Looks like a firkin or two setup, but nothing on when I was there. 6 or 7 of their brews on tap and $6 for a flight of 6; hard to beat that, especially when the beer is solid.“

“Visited on a Friday afternoon. Five normal beers and a firkin were available when we visited. Sample trays and pints available. Nothing really stood out about this place, beers were alright. They have a popcorn maker and it looked like you could order food from the bar next door. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to visit this place again, but it wasn’t bad.“

“I don’t know how this place rated low (in my eyes) with the previous posts. Jen and I have visited every taproom in the Twin Cities (and many more around the country), and this is our new favorite. The brewers know what they are talking about and are passionate. Not that other tap rooms don’t have this quality, but these guys are really fun to talk to about beer. You feel like someone is talking WITH you about beer, not AT you. If you want to learn something, and not feel dumb, this is a good place to go. Food. Shenanigans o the previous post about food! They have a mutual deal with Paddy Ryans (bar/restaurant right next door). They supply the beer, the restaurant makes the food. I highly recommend the beer bread. It comes out steamy warm... melts in your mouth. I must confess, I am a Packer fan. We make the voyage on Sundays to watch the game here. It has the taproom atmosphere, combined with football. It is like a tight family when the games are on. This place is a gem. Highly recommend!!“

Stone Tap (Bar)

“New spot in Hudson, WI. What the tap list lacks in quantity (25) it makes up for in quality. They boasted Three Floyds Alpha King and Alesmith Speedway Stout on a recent list, although those are both no longer on tap. Three Floyds Pride & Joy Mild is on now, as are 4 beers from New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Series, and some other gems like Rush River Double Bubble. The food is amazing. I had a fancy chicken sandwich which was phenomenal. Paying $3 extra for the Stone Tap salad was also a great call. Food is a bit on the expensive side, but beers are on the inexpensive side. So, all in all, to drink great beers at a great price and get fantastic food in a cool place with stone walls on the main drag in Hudson is not bad duty at all.“

“Ancient roadside building, set into a hillside with beer caves in the basement, with a bar and growler fills too?? Sign me up. Big thanks to Howard for braving a severe thunderstorm to get us here right after 9am when they opened (every day apparently). Even though the bar was closed, they ran over and filled a couple growlers of Toppling Goliath Golden Nugget ($9.99 refill, awesome) and were generally super helpful and willing to chat about beer so early in the morning. The vibe here is super cool if you’re into historical buildings, vintage roadside americana and the like. Lots of dark wood with eclectic cool knick-knacks, A giant moosehead, an aquarium with colorful fish and a sunken growler among the rocks, old historical framed photos, and the occasional tin beer sign in the back. Beer shelves are in the back and crammed full. Got a mixed sixer here of a few NG Thumbprint series, and new local American Sky beers from Hudson Brewing Co. They had obscure imports from Birra Del Borgo, Hannsens, Vanberg & DeWulf and others. Craft coolers seemingly go on forever, wrapping along the back wall. Great prices and selection. Overall a very cool and unique place, I hope to return and check out the Nova next time.“

“Visited August 15, 2013 on the way into Minneapolis.

We stopped in mostly as a last chance to pick up the New Glarus that we all wanted. They certainly do have that. When I walked in I saw the giant pile/display on the left, across from the check out counter. Plenty of the fruit beer, some of the Berliner, sour, and all the regular beers. In the back are a couple of aisles of other beer, most of which were new to me but over all kind of uninspiring. The lady at the checkout was not overly friendly but that’s alright. I don’t really plan on stopping in again anyway.“

“Visited the taproom on 8-18-13. Nice that it’s open on Sunday, unlike its Minnesota taproom compatriots (I think). Keep that in mind if you live in the Twin Cities and are desperate to visit a taproom on a Sunday; just cross the St. Croix. This is a new brewery, and yet it already had 7 of its own beers on tap (out of 9 that it had brewed). No guest taps, liquor, or food (save for free popcorn, which I appreciated and enjoyed). One of the seven beers was on nitro, and another was on a firkin. Pleasant decor and atmosphere. Small, cozy, and quiet, befitting its farm theme. Maroon walls. Wood siding on the bars. About 15 black stools along the straight bar. Several nearby tables. Well lit through large windows in the front of the building. A few farming-related items on the wall. Sparse decor, but I assume more is coming. Simple but nice. One TV showing the Milwaukee Brewers game on 4X3 stretch (i.e., not on 16X9 true HD), which is a pet peeve of mine and a sign of an unprofessional bar in my opinion (spend 5 minutes to get the settings right permanently). Also, they advertised themselves as showing a Packers game the other day. I suspect Pitchfork will live or die on appealing to Minnesota customers crossing the river, so it may want to orient itself toward the Vikings and Twins (Hudson itself is a mixed town in terms of its Minnesota v. Wisconsin sports loyalties). Windows allow one to view the brewing equipment, which is remarkably tiny. Service was a tad slow but friendly. Ranged from only a few other patrons to close to its small capacity while I was there. The beers are reasonably good, not mind-blowing, but it seems the brewery focuses on the low-alcohol-end range of the styles, which makes it hard for the beers to stand out in flavor. Good value at $6 for a flight of five 4-oz. pours. Living in Minneapolis, I’m not going to be a regular, but I was happy to make the half-hour drive to check it out, and I encourage any other taproom fans in the area to do the same.“

“Good size liquor store in old downtown Hudson. Not much of a beer selection yet they do a few limited cognacs and tequilas. Not a welcoming and customer friendly store. If you’re just looking for New Glarus or your BCM (Bud, Coors, Miller) brands only because beer is not sold on Sundays in Minnesota then this is your place.“

“Occassionally you find some limited release beers. Customer service is a hit and miss depending who is working. If you are just looking for some Wisconsin only beers and price is what you are looking for then this is the place. Otherwise, for the size of the store selection is not comparable to Casanova or Devine.“

“The location and building is very interesting and has a great history to it. Beer selection is abundant but availability of a particular beer could be a hit or miss because of the number of growing craft drinkers out there. Living in St. Croix County this is the place I look for my beers.“

“Chicone’s has the best prices in Hudson on craft beer - they are usually a dollar cheaper on 4 packs and single bottles than other stores. They don’t get all of the things that they have at The Nova but they also have some things that The Nova doesn’t get so it goes both ways. I usually end up BSing with the beer guy every time I go there because he’s a nice guy and loves to talk beer. Overall, as others have said one of the two necessary stops for the MN crowd crossing the river.“
