Purely Cornish (Beer Store)

“Looe's best place to buy Cornish ales, situated opposite the small & very busy car park. Around 8 to 10 different breweries across the 80 or so bottles & cans. I brought a dozen bottles & some cans, the lady serving was kind enough to give me one bottle free and a box to take them away in“

“In West Looe, busy friendly traditional pub with 4 cask's on, alas none of them new to me. Went for Dartmoor Jail Ale, a decent pint. Seems to be serving good food“

“Visited October 2020. This was the best beer shop I visited in my week in the area. Situated towards the inland end of Looe's main shopping street, the shop clearly aims to capture the tourist "gifts for the folks back home" market. Much of the small shop is therefore devoted to Cornish tea, saffron cake and Things With Cornish Flags On. However, the entire right hand wall is full of Cornish booze; I'd guess 80 beers and 20 ciders, alongside a smattering of meads - easily the biggest range I saw in my week in the area. Quite a lot of their stock wasn't shown on their website. The range covers quite a high proportion of Cornwall's brewers, although traditional brewers are much better represented than the craft brigade. The prices are reasonable (although not cheap) but the lady who served us was particularly surly. You'll be hard-pressed not to find new rates here and I'd recommend a visit if you're in Cornwall (not least because Looe is a gorgeous little town to wander around). But do aim to come outside the main holiday period as Looe does get rammed.“

“This is a quayside restaurant cum cider bar, there is an indoor eating area but the place to be is on the terrace. Busy with sunning tourists. The ciders are from the fridge, which is handy, mostly local Cornish Cideries. With the dearth of beer in Looe this is possibly a better option.“

“Touristy pub just off the car parking area in Looe. Popped in as an attempt to find any interesting beers in this town and failed. Food based with a modern diner feel. The search continued.“

“A touristy, family based pub based in the centre of East Looe. It is a busy pub based mostly on selling food to the thronging hordes throughout the pub. The beer range was all the St Austell standards, quality was okay on our visit. Given tha Looe is not blessed with decent pubs it's as good as any available.“

“Rating based on beers available and food selection. A real gem this and if your after some of the smaller bottle only breweries this is the place. Picked up Fowey Castle and Fishkey but they had almost all the Cornish bottle producers here noticeable one missing was Verdant but perhaps they are too “hipster” lol. Great range excellent prices highly recommended“

“One of the first pubs you come to after the maze of narrow streets begins properly once entering the defined pedestrian zone of East Looe, this pub does well from the many tourists that visit the small town and does a good line in cheap food traditional surroundings. The decor is nothing special, but it is convivial and inviting and family friendly. The central doors lead into a large open plan room with seating either side of the door, and another area in the far corner. The bar is at the back of this room and you’ll find a row of St Austell ales available to try, a few bottles from this brewer if you prefer, and several Cornish ciders.“

“Located opposite the quayside 50 metres into the defined pedestrian zone of East Looe before its maze of streets begins properly. As the name suggests it offers locally made gifts and produce, and there’s a large collection of bottled ales and real ciders against the wall on the right - all of which come from Cornwall and its microbreweries and cider farms are well represented here.“
