50 /100 George & Dragon (Bar) 24 FISHER STREET On a narrow street of houses back from the Quayside this is a cosy pub sandwiched in the middle of a long row of houses. Perhaps a food venue more than a beer place, I found a Tim Taylor as well as 'London Pride' available as its cask selection. An airy extension exists to the rear of the traditional space at the front, but better is its walled garden terrace at the rear. |
54 /100 Red Cow (Bar) 12 MOAT SOLE Hidden behind the largest main square building and next to the Co-op, this is a slightly older world traditional pub with a large stone fireplace serving Harvey's and a couple of Gadds (all regulars). It has a big beer garden area with picnic tables making it an excellent good weather venue, but not so much a beer destination. |
74 /100 10 DELF STREET Directly behind the main square on its road side, this is a single room micropub with bench seating along its sides. Its keg selection was exclusively Time + Tide on my visit with an alternative brewer supplying the cask. Real cider is also available. This is a music pub so expect to listen to tunes or see sets. There's plenty of craft cans in a fridge to drink in or take out. |
74 /100 10 DELF STREET Visited on Saturday 18th May 2019 in the early afternoon … on the afternoon of Sandwich Food & Drink festival so perhaps a busier than normal time? That said the place had only opened in the past 2 weeks so I guess it would be hard to judge what is typical but like its sister venue in Deal, when I visited last year, it was doing a roaring trade.
Located in the centre of Sandwich, Smugglers is a single room venue that seats about 30 or so folks with outside benches taking another 20 or thereabouts.
8 keg taps, all dispensing Time and Tide offerings, plus 4 gravity cask/bladder bag cider offerings in a fridge with 2 beers from the new to RB 'Deal Hop Farm'. One fridge provides about 30 or so canned and bottled offerings … quite a bit from T&T once more but also stuff from Magic Rock, De Molen and others but a scaled down fridge offering in comparison to the Deal venue. Service was prompt and friendly and the vibe was good with a local crowd aged largely 40 plus. Unlike the Deal venue this didn't seem to be an active record shop but there was records mounted to the walls. Food available in the form of pies and snacks. Overall a solid little venue. |
62 /100 Red Cow (Bar) 12 MOAT SOLE A "big" pub in Sandwich with a huge and nice beer garden. Playground for the kids. Like most English pubs dark and cosy inside. |
56 /100 Hop and Huffkin (Restaurant) 10 NEW STREET This place have the local cask beer. 6 cask in their rack and 2 on tap. A modern and bright place with a few tables. Not the cheapest place in town but the place with ambition. The menu is a blend of English and Spanish and cate about local beer and music. |
54 /100 George & Dragon (Bar) 24 FISHER STREET A small local pub with 4 cask and 4 draft beers. Fast service and good menu for an English pub. |
