3.1 5 Points Offshore IPA Pale golden pour with a thin white head. The nose is a little bit grassy with a touch of honey and pale malt. Fairly sweet with a kiss of booziness and some soft fruitiness. 3.1 5 Points Alesner 45 IBUs. This is the same recipe as the pilsner but it is fermented with a different yeast. Pale straw-golden pour. The nose is lightly fruity with a little bit of berry aroma. The hops are much more subdued in this one than in the last one. Not really much in the way of disinct hoppiness. There is a bit of light citrus but it’s hard to nail down. 3.6 5 Points Pilsner 45 IBUs. Fresh pale malt. Thick, sticky white head. The nose is a little bit grassy with a nice lean hop character. Grassy and faintly noble. Distinctly grassy with a touch of soft lemon/lemongrass flavour. Lots of clean pilsner malt with a clean hoppiness. Friday, September 3, 2010 | |

3.5 5 Points Pilsner A: The pour is very much the same as the Alesner (not surprising). A clear golden-orange color with a somewhat short lived white head. S: The nose is also fairly bready with some spiced/noble hop notes and a surprising touch of fruitiness. There isn’t really the usual sulfur that you might find with a lager. T: The flavor is quite nice, actually. Good bready notes along with some sweetness and fruit in the form of perhaps pears and apples. The bitterness is light, but does provide a nice balance. M: Somewhat light in body, like you would expect for a lager. Plenty of carbonation, again, fairly typical. D: I was actual a fan of this one. I am not a huge lager person, but this was pretty easy to drink and no bad off-flavors or skunkiness. Friday, July 23, 2010 | |

3.1 5 Points Alesner A: The pour is a golden color with a hint of some amber coming in and a fluffy white head. S: The nose is almost exclusively bready. Lots of malts with just a hint of noble hop aroma to it. A bit of grain sweetness as well. T: The flavor follows the nose for the most part. This is pretty bready with a bit of grain/adjunct (corn?) style sweetness to it. The hop character is quite faint, maybe just a tiny amount of bitterness. M: The body is on the lighter side, but not thin or watery. A decent carbonation that leaves a nice crisp, refreshing feel on the tongue. D: Overall, not a bad beer. I was a bit more fond of the pils, which is rare for me, but this could have used a little bit something "extra". Friday, July 23, 2010 | |
