Okoboji Early Riser Coffee Porter
Early Riser was great for boner jokes the relatively thin body held it back from sticking around in my mind. (Sticking up in my mind? Now I’m trying to hard to make boner jokes.) It’s too bad, too. Early Riser has a solid fresh-roasted coffee flavor but I love when a coffee-infused beer has a brighter roasted note. Well, I can’t think of more boner jokes, so I’ll just end the review here.

Okoboji Boji Beach Golden Rye Ale
Draft/Fest. A- Rye, wheat, corn. A- Golden color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Rye, spice, wheat, corn, pepper, slightly sweet. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, spicy finish. O- This rye in here is certainly noticeable and it’s welcoming. Makes it something other than an average blond. I like my blondes with a little spiciness.

Okoboji Early Riser Coffee Porter
Draft/Fest. A- Coffee, espresso, cocoa, roasty. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Coffee, slightly bitter, espresso. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- This would be a fine breakfast beer. Tons and tons and tons of coffee on the nose and the palate as well. Maybe could benefit from a bit more vanilla, otherwise a great beer.

P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- Not as sweet as I thought it’d be and that’s okay. Nice amounts of coffee and vanilla make it balanced.

Okoboji The Hole in Hadrian's Wall
Hazy amber pour with a fluffy, 3 finger beige head that has great retention. Aroma is full of potpourri floral and berry notes, caramel apple, a little spice and some odd tart notes. Flavor is full of under ripe fruit and floral notes up front, lactic tartness, toffee, caramel covered sour apple, weird floral, berry and pine shoot notes. Light to medium body with a pretty strong, blanketing and sharp carbonation and a chewy entry immediately leading to a dry, chalky feel. Interesting stuff, but I am pretty sure it has a bit of an (unintentional) infection, and/or they are going in a REALLY weird direction for a Scotch Ale. It’s actually pretty interesting and I was really surprised to find it was listed at 9.5%ABV, pretty good overall, despite the likely infection and not really fitting it’s listed style. Though those are often fun attributes.

Okoboji Boji Blue Pale Ale
Near gusher from a pint can cracking the can immediately results in tart berries, cardboard oxidization and lots of band aid. Cloudy, dirty copper pour with a huge, chunky, beige head. Aroma of, cardboard oxidization, caramel, citrus, lots of berry and tree fruit, earthy funk, butterscotch and band aid. Flavor is tons of oxidization, green wood, earthy funk, metal, tart berry and stone fruit, light citrus, light pine, grass and lots of plastic-laden band aid. Light, dry body with a very strong, blanketing and somewhat sharp carbonation. Lots of off flavors here, definitely seems like some sort of infection, especially with the insanely explosive pour that still manages to leave a huge carbonation and off style funk and acidity. Not very good, obviously, but interesting.

Okoboji Boji Beach Golden Rye Ale
Fairly clear darkish gold.MIld head but leaves some froth. Mildly hoppy nose with some grainy mild sweetness.LIght spiceyness from the rye.A bit of sulfer also.Slight woody dry earthyness. Taste is light medium body with light sweetness, some dryness and light spicyness from rye but more noticable in finish makes it seem hoppier than it is with the spicey rye dry finish.Mild herbal hop.Kind of has some rubberyness in aroma/flavor.Some minerallyness.MIld citrus in finish with some mild residual sweetness. Ok for a warmweather beer and for a golden ale but has some offness.

Cloudy light brown diareeah pour. Aromas of sharp baby shit, unchanged diapers. Taste is bitter and sweet, like the McDonald’s sweet and sour sauce for the mcnuggets. Actually, I get some mcnugget in here. Fuck. I just don’t dig this beer at all. Too much sour for a scotch ale. Possible infection?

Hazy organish brown,heady,carbonated.lacey. Aroma is belgiany with Strong tart spicey tartness citrus. Taste has lots of spicey tart tangy citrus, maybe overcarbonated bite with a subltle carmel/malt underneath an overattenuated beer making it a bit dryer and less malty/sweet than I would expect in a scottish ale. Tart with lots of tangy bite with carbonation. Strong Woody oaky sour/tart dominate beer. Otherwise its not a bad beer.Lacks the malt backbone I was expecting.

Long day at work, and what do you know, randomgarbage sent a box and this was in it, perfect. Pours a clear dark amber red with a thick off white head and nice lacing, aroma has a decent amount of caramel and sweetness, flavor has a nice sweet front end with a thick mouthfeel, almost sour in a way, kind of fruity as well, different, the abv sure is hidden though, doesn’t taste like 9.5.
