Summit Station Pumpkin Ale
Sweet vegetal pumpkin nose with a ton of spice. Taste is moderately sweet, lots of spice, cinnamon and clove mostly, lots of chocolate and watery coffee.

On tap -- pretty decent pale ale, but not my favorite from Summit Station. Smooth golden-amber color, very little head, and a slightly sweet hoppy aroma. Flavor was a bit dull. Overall, a decent ale.

Summit Station Centennial Ale
Growler - Turbid deep brownish crimson, thick and creamy light tan head. Nose was a complex mix of earth, wet moss, pineapple, light pine and grapefruit, with a slight milk chocolate undertone. Flavor was a bit more intense then the nose (but basically mirrored), and was well balanced throughout. Only a mere hint of 10.7% comes in late, but otherwise remains well hidden. Full bodied, light carbonation, bittersweet finish. No doubt, one of their finest efforts to date. Hope they brew this more often...

Summit Station Gus McClouds North Pole Porter
Tap @ Sumitt Station - Pitch black, golden tanned creamy head. Nose was quite rich with notes of roasted coffee, cocoa, oatmeal, and soft toasted vanilla bean, with lighter vinous tones emerging at close to room temp. Flavor practically mirrored the aroma with lots of roasty, toasty, cocoa notes upfront, vinous-like in the middle, and a light bitterness rounding it out. Medium bodied and velvety, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Very nicely done, and a perfect session ale for anytime....

Rating #2000... Draft... 2005 Maryland Brewers Spring Fest... Dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. Nutty, chocolately aroma with a hint of vanilla. Well-balanced with a very roasty flavor of rich, dark coffee. Excellently bittered. Medium-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Lengthy, moderately bitter, drying finish. It’s how a porter should taste, smell and feel. Great work.

Co-rated with Hopscotch, but special thanks to Kramario for the growler. Clear dark amberish crimson, tan creamy head. Nose held notes of earthy hops and caramel, with lesser notes of band-aid, white pepper, and a hint of citrus. Heavily bittered throughout with the sweet malt hardly coming through. Actually...it really doesn’t. It’s bitter from start to finish. Super full bodied, light carbonation, sahara dry, bitter, alcoholic finish. So with that being said, it’s still a pretty decent brew from these guys...

Growler... Sparkling clear, mahogany ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Sparse, splattered lacework. The aroma is gritty with notes of caramel, Earth, Band-Aid and pepper. The flavor is moderately malty, heavily bitter, alcoholic and metallic. Full-bodied with a very oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy and almost violently bitter finish. A bit too alcoholic, but a very nice job brewing a really big beer by a brewery that specializes in fairly small beers.

I wasn't looking to try this beer, but when a neighbor has a growler of it and offered up a glass, who was I to refuse? Red-black body topped by medium beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, roasty, caramel. Taste is fairly rich, medium sweet, roasty, some coffee, caramel, earthy, finish is roasty bitter with light earthiness. Medium body.

Clear garnet with tan head. To call this beer a spice beer would be an understatement -- ginger, allspice, lemon peel aroma. Taste is more of the same, though there is also some pine. Medium body. Strange brew, not sure what I think of it.

Clear dark ruby with a small tan head. Aroma is all spices. Ginger, allspice, with some sour lemon. The flavor is again all spices, the sourness develops more in the flavor then the aroma. The best description I can come up with is a sour Anchor OSA. Medium-light body.

Summit Station Gaithersburg Golden Ale
Draft... Pours a crystal clear, light golden color. Large frothy white head. Somewhat lasting with very nice lacing. The aroma holds light notes of butterscotch and English toffee. Lightly floral with a touch of citrus fruit as well. The flavor is lightly malty up front and balanced well with generous bitter and pungent hops on the backside. Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation. Crisp and clean finish.

Summit Station Belgian Ale
Sparkling clear amber hue. What the heck is the commercial description all about. I entered it straight from the menu, but it’s not even close to being something I would consider golden or pale. The off-white head is medium-sized. Mostly, but not fully diminishing with minimal lacing. The aroma is very yeasty with heavy notes of coriander, clove, alcohol, light lemon and very light grapefruit. I detected Banana in the nose as well. Very Hefe-like. The flavor is very well balanced for a strong Belgian ale. Lightly sweet, spicey and fruity up front. Lightly bitter, spicey (allspice, cinnomon and clove) on the backside. Full-bodied with a fizzy and watery mouthfeel. Short, dry and crisp finish.

Draft... Sparkling clear mohogany hue with a small, off-white creamy head. Mostly diminishing with decent lacing. The aroma is of caramel, brown sugar and cola. Another perfectly balanced brew from Summit Station. Very malty and rich up front. Very lightly bitter and acetic on the backside. Light to medium-bodied. with a watery mouthfeel and almost non existant carbonation. Short, lightly pungent finish.

Draft... The aroma is moderately malty and floral. Notes of butterscotch, caramel and evergreen. A clear, deep amber ale with a copper tint. Small frothy, white head. Fully diminishing. Malty flavor up front, but the hops break through on the backside. Long, dry, bitter finish.

Looks like cloudy tea, not much head. Nose is quite malty, a bit tart. Sweet flavor, malty and lemony, with a hint of coffee. Sweetness lengthens in the finish, ending up a bit like cola. A little too thin, but still pretty refreshing.
