Heurich House Museum to be open Friday evenings in December for festive tours and local maker shopping events

The Heurich House Museum will host Mini Markts and tours of the historic home’s seasonal decorations on December 8, 15, and 22 from 5-8pm. Mini Markts are smaller, indoor versions of the museum’s Christkindlmarkt (CKM), an annual shopping event that takes place this year on December 1-3.

Each Mini Markt will have a different theme: vendors at the December 8 “Deck the Halls” event will feature holiday florals and décor, holiday display items, cards, and ornaments; December 15th, “Wrap the Children’s Gifts” night, will feature gifts specifically for children, including toys, clothing, and games; on December 22, “Set the Table” vendors will sell food for guests to purchase and bring to their own holiday celebrations.

Visitors will get to see the Heurich House Museum dressed up for the Christmas holiday with seasonal room displays and decorations designed by local designer, Sarah King.

Since 2013, the Heurich House Museum has hosted a German-style Christmas market in its garden featuring local makers and opened the museum for tours. The museum is responding to increased interest in CKM to create even more opportunities to support local makers.

These events are open to the public from 5-8pm each night. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for children 2-12, in advance or at the door. Tickets include entry into the museum, self-guided tours of the historic German Brewmaster’s house, and access to the market, housed in the museum’s indoor Conservatory.

Since 2011, when new leadership took control of the Heurich House Museum, the organization has been transformed into a modern and sustainable museum whose mission celebrates local DC history and creative economy in one of the city's most important architectural landmarks. The mansion, located at 1307 New Hampshire Avenue NW in Dupont Circle, was built in the 1890’s by German immigrant, local brewer, and philanthropist Christian Heurich. Recognized as Washington, DC’s most successful brewer, he ran the Chr. Heurich Brewing Co., the city’s longest-operating brewery, until his death at 102. 

The individual programs the Heurich House Museum has established not only sustain the organization and support its mission, but also help uplift other DC communities. The Museum operates an arts and humanities incubator, Brewmaster Studios, which provides low cost or space-for-trade to local makers, entrepreneurs, and scholars, and has formed deep relationships with the local craft beer community that provides tremendous support through partnership programs like Oktoberfest and History & Hops.
