Dear French RB’s,

going to stay in the area for one week. Interessted in a local swap?
Anyone that have access to a French web site that lists breweries. brewpubs, bottleshops? Had one but lost the link s couple of years ago (helped me spot the bottle shop in Narbonne etc)

Santé / Thomas

By checking the other treads I found this: http://www.biere-france.com

As for the area, I can quote myself on an earlier trip about a visitor to the south of France:

Bad news: If you wont go further north or stay in a place for some time (web shop!) you are going to have a hard time even finding any good French beer. That’s just the state of craft in France.

*snip*

Your best bet is http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/state/city/placename/25945.htm in Toulouse. Last time I was there they at least had stuff from Des Vinges.

There are no active RateBeerians in the south of France as far as I know (or at least not that are also active in the community part). There are beer-interested people, but setting up a trade will be hard (unless you come up further North in the country). I would be interested but live in Tours and work in Paris.

Lists of brewers:
http://yves.bou.pagesperso-orange.fr/brasseries/brasseries_francaises.htm
http://projet.amertume.free.fr/html/liste_brasseries.htm
http://www.saveur-biere.com/annuaire-brasserie
Note that some might be out of date. Also, most make a standard blond, blanche, brune. For more interesting styles you’ll have to compile a list of brewers upfront, I suggest. If you stay in 1 place a while you might even order beer online (a popular way in France to get craft beer outside of the main cities).

I’ve been thinking of an alternative way to find new places: take 2 or 3 names that you know (bars for example) and Google them, excluding ratebeer from the results (-ratebeer)
You may find some page that lists them together, and with them also some new place

I tried quickly, and I found this place
www.vandb.fr/
It seems to be a chain of bars, shop, and online shop.
Mind, the selection available online is likely less than what you can find in the shop in Narbonne (and there is one in Montpelier and Perpignan too).

Now up to you to find some more place with this method!

How do you get there? do you fly or drive?

I searched my local ratings database (I keep the department code in that, so it’s easy to search).

I don’t have breweries in the department #11, but in the nearby #34 there is "Brasserie d’Oc" and "Pays d’Oc", and in the #66 the "Cap d’Ona", and the famous "Garrigues" in the #30.

But the most interesting thing, that you won’t find on beer websites, is that some very fine meadmakers are in the region!
In the 11th (Aude):
Le Rucher De L’Ours (Philippe Weibel): mediocre
Miellerie des Clauses: some of the best French mead, award winning
In the 66th (Pyrénées-Orientales):
A la Ruche (Domenico + Vincent Mistretta): don’t know if they still produce
In the 34th (Hérault):
Clos des Sentinelles: very dry, similar to white wine, more expensive

If you can’t visit the Miellerie des Clauses, very likely they will be in some farmers market in Narbonne, or have a shop in the town.
And the price in France is much much cheaper than in Sweden, so you should really try

Alex, will be flying in to Marseille the 29th, to late for any town dipping. Going down to S:t Pierre la Mer with a rental car. Miellerie des Clauses could be easy visited on the way to Carcassonne... Flying out from Beziers the 7th to Edinghburg (visiting mother in law) ;)

Hello,

There is on bottle shop in Narbonne, and a nice one in Bezier (in the center city, associated with a bar). In Carassonne there are two small places near the train station, one that do sell flowers and local beers, the other one that delivers bars too. There is a very nice bar in Montpellier near the "Arceaux", the name is "Couleurs de Bières".
If you are in those area, the nice places to get local beers is to reach the "marché", you’ll definitely find local (and rare) beers.

There are not much breweries, Basserie d’Oc is poor.

Hope it will help.

Regards

In Bezier, the shop name is "L’Antre de l’échoppe" you can find Belgian and some other european, but may some you had already. The bas in Montpellier should be better for you.
The name of the shop in Carcassonne is "Fleur et vin".
