I have only rated 28 IPAs. For me Kernel IPA Citra is top, but I also enjoyed the Meantime IPA.

I had a Brough IPA (Wolverhampton Brewer) on cask that was very good too. But no one else has rated it so It may be just me.

bristol beer factory, buxton, moor, lovibonds, roosters and brewdog all have IPAs scoring higher than kernel for me

I rate Kernel very highly I love their stuff, however I always consider Kernel to ’generally’ specialise in that style so I tend to expect them to be good and thankfully they rarely if ever fail. Whereas Oakham, Bristol Beer Factory, Lovibonds, Buxton, Tiny Rebel, Moor and many others have brilliant IPA’s amongst a more broader range of styles. I guess what I am saying is that this impresses me that they can turn out something like Southville Hop, Green Devil IPA, 69 IPA etc whilst turning their hand to and knocking out great Stouts, Goldens, Bitters and even Sours.

For me The Kernels are hard to beat. When they’re fresh they are unbeatable in the UK. Not to say that there aren’t other great IPAs in the UK and I’d certainly back Oakham. Recently I find myself enjoying the APAs just as much at The Kernel. Some hops always better than others though.

Yep so have I, I meant that of the new breed of US influenced brewers the ipa’s of summer wine are the worst; although I did enjoy the Maelstrom nitro more than I expected.

I’ve only had 9 of The Kernel’s IPA varieties, and rated them from 3.8 (Simcoe) to 2.7 (Nelson Sauvin Citra). Which means that I think that the quality varies quite a bit - at their best they are very good, but not stellar.
Haven’t had Oakham Green Devil, but as I love all other Oakham beers I’ve had,my expectations would be sky high.

My favourite Kernel beers so far are Export Stout London 1890 and India Double Porter (both at 4).

Oy, you stole my line!!!

I think Yanks don’t like Kernel as it’s not "balanced" with rancid crystal malt which means you can actually taste the hops not just fucking toffee!

I love Kernel beers and I particularly like their simple malt base which is just what I want. Other opinions are available but are wrong.

Think I’ve had 200+ US IPA’s and never had one that’s as good as the best Kernel beers... but, as we said, crystal malt just ruins hops.
