Okay thanks to a member who told me how to rate, I decided I’m not going to disrespect a beer by pretending I know this so yeah.

I’m not totally sure what the difference between Palate and Taste is for reviewing, i thought they where interchangeable words, please help.

Hopefully I can go 2/2 in giving advice haha.

Taste- What does the beer taste like? Is it sweet? Sour? Bitter? Do you taste chocolate? or maybe some citrus? Taste is literally what it sounds like. Take a sip and describe the flavors you get.

Palate- How does the beer feel in your mouth? Is it light or heavy? Does it feel creamy like milk or thin like watery? Is there a lot of carbonation or flat? Then the finish. Does the finish linger on your tongue for a while or is it dry? Or maybe it’s a spicy or bitter finish that is sharp on the tongue.

There is a million different descriptors you could use for both of these. Basically comes do to Taste=Flavor and Palate=Mouthfeel.

Here’s my attempt to answer it: taste refers to the flavors you detect in the beer, whereas palate has to do with how the beer feels in your mouth.

There are several guides available to read up on "palate," but I found this one here on ratebeer to be a nice introduction to the concept:

You know how to rate as well as anyone else... There’s really no secret to rating and no experience is necessary. Just write how you liked the beer. Did it taste good? What did it taste like? Was it over-carbonated?

As others have said, flavor = taste, palate = mouthfeel/carbonation levels/etc. Not something everyone comments on all of the time unless a beer is over or under carbonated.

Welcome to the site and to rating! You will find that what you know now will be very different from what you know in a year. And then what you know in 5 years, etc. Your taste buds and your palate will evolve and it is just a lot of fun to experience that!

Wow. My #2pac cred is low. Only seven beers from that list!
