Have a friend visiting these cities next week. |
For Vilnius, the places section is pretty close to ideal priority order, but do read the reviews to ascertain whether it’s a local-oriented or import-oriented venue. |
Tell him to skip Vilnius and go to Helsinki instead. |
If your friend has enough time (a full day is enough) he could visit a few of the traditional farmhouse breweries north of Vilnius. Nate2g and I were just there, and engaged the expert assistance of Vidmantas Laurinavicius, www.beertourism.lt, info@alutis.lt. What a great time. |
Stockholm is also easy to check from Places-section. Top rated places Akkurat, Oliver Twist and Omnipollo’s Hat are very close each other. |
Not sure if Akkurat’s changed since: https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/akkurat-stockholm-is-sold_296904.htm (and I’m sure Hat is great if you want culinary experiments by people who don’t even seem to like beer in the first place). |
The most expensive beers are in Oslo, be aware! Bottle to bring home? It’s not alloved to buy bottles for take away in bars. Grocery stores have beers up to 4.7%. The state monopoly "Vinmonopolet" has the best selection. See places section |
Originally posted by FatPhil Akkurat is pretty much the same still, but there are small signs of things turning for the worse. They won’t get Zwanze this year, they won’t be getting any more Bokkereyder etc... |
Originally posted by Travlr He is from Lithuania and will be there a while. Any particular recs for a farmhouse brewery? |
Originally posted by beastiefan2k Probably the most interesting and the most well known was Jovaru: https://www.ratebeer.com/p/jovaru-alus-aldona-udriene-jovarai/71048/83882/ The most attractive place to just sit and drink some beers was Rozalimas: https://www.ratebeer.com/p/rozalimas-alaus-baras-rozalimas/26385/83882/ And the most welcoming place, a restaurant that serves as the brewery tap for Piniavos, was Prie Usio: https://www.ratebeer.com/p/prie-uosio-panev279zys/26388/83882/ By the way, nate2g and I brewed a clone of the Jovaru farmhouse beer with some yeast and malt that the brewer gave us. It should be ready now, and they are planning a small homebrewers festival where they will serve it (and 10 other homebrews brewed at the same time). I’m not sure when that will be. But Vidma will know, and he may be able to share some of the homebrew. |
Sweet, Gene! I’ll send along those recs. When I said a "while" I meant for a week. |
