Brothers Beer is the best place in Auckland, in my opinion. You could also stop for coffee and/or a beer at the Glass Box, where the owner will know what’s happening in craft beer in the city and elsewhere. Hallertau, about 30 minutes drive north of Auckland, is well worth the drive, they’ve recently expanded. Don’t have high expectations of Auckland otherwise, though, Wellington is where it’s at.

I didn’t get to Tauranga, but there are two places listed there in the Places section, so please rate them if you check them out. On your way there, you could stop in Hamilton and have a beer with Nate2g, he was an assistant brewer at Kernel in London. There are a handful of places that are worth a peek that Nate can point you to, like Wonder Horse and Gothenburg.

In Rotorua, Brew Craft is a must, for the Croucher beers.

No chance to go to the South Island? Nelson is beautiful, with good beer, Christchurch is recovering and has good beer and friendly Ratebeerians. Many other good places like Renaissance.

Overall, beer scene is growing rapidly. Please add any new places you find, and rate the places you visit, of course, Ratebeerians who follow in your footsteps will appreciate it!

Sadly you are not visiting the best craft beer regions in the country. Macs is basically the "craft" beer for the largest brewer in the country. Not to say the beers are bad (some of them are actually decent), but you will not see the best that the country has to offer. Auckland has just had a plethora of new brewers appear, but alas they are not brew pubs. Brothers Beer, Hallertau and Galbraiths would be the picks of places to see. O’Carrolls and The Lumsden are two others that are reasonable (beware the toilets at the Lumsden - grotty!)

Croucher’s is located around Rotovegas so go and see Paul and Nigel,

As Travlr said it is all happening in Wellington, ChCh and the Nelson/Blenheim region.

When are you out this way?
