I pop in now and then, latest beginning of June, 2017. Always a nice place, though after the remodeling I feel less at home. It makes a lot for the place feel, guess I am traditional to what I got used to. Still a nice place with a great variety on tap.
Updated after my latest visit on August 31, 2013. Age limit is 23 years, ID might be required if asked for. Patio outside in summer season only. Centrally located on Järntorget square, easy to get to by tram or bus. Perhaps not so good to drive to and find parking. Close to many other great beer places, so can easily be part of a Göteborg pub crawl. This evening 27 taps with different beers available as of the bartender. Some taps have the same beers on though, I’d say max 20 different beers on tap at a given time. Many taps stay the same over the year, but 4-6 change fairly often, updated usually on their Facebook page which the guest taps are. Apparently about 200 bottles available, not all of them visible in the fridges, many are in the cellar. No problem getting a galopp serving, i.e. a 17-20 cl serving in a wine glass, if you want to sample smaller servings of your beer. The youngest of the three BA bars in Göteborg. It also feels like the one with the most light, perhaps because this is not located in a cellar? The best of the BA pubs in Göteborg and as for the ones I’ve visited the best in Sweden. I go here fairly often and have been since they opened. Staff seems to more or less change quite often, though some regular (good) ones remain. Rather big outdoor seating in summer, a bit smallish and narrow inside. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see the beer cellar, located under the entrance! Food has been very bad once, which led me to not eat here for many months. Have had better luck since. Have the Ocean (Järntorgets) Arbetarporter brewed specially for them, and afaik always available on tap. A place I tend to go back to again and again. Once a year, usually in October, has the porter week Sunday through Thursday, where many taps are sporting black beers; mainly porters and stouts, but also black lager and black IPA etc. Like all BA are fairly expensive, but they did look over their bottled prices earlier this year and many became reasonably priced instead of silly as before.
Visited Marts 2017. Traditionel Bishops Arms deco. Nice selection of beers both on tap and bottles. Both Swedish and foreign ones. Placed in the city center easy to find, and in walking distance from other bars and trams. Lots of seatings, very busy when we visited the place. Friendly staff. They do food, but we didn´t eat. For sure worth a visit / revisit.
A regular Bishops Arms with all that means but this one is supported by a cunning and friendly staff, usually interesting guest taps, a nice bottle selection with some rarities and a very solid house beer from Oceanbryggeriet. Also runs some events like tap takeovers and an annual week long porter and dark beer festival.
A homely old-English style boozer in Jarntorget, the home of some of the best Goteborg bars. A good selection of Swedish beers including a few from the local brewer Ocean plus others from around Europe and the standard Fullers cask ales. Friendly service.. I sometimes feel that some Swedish pubs go a little over the top in their race to be the most British, but it’s a little funny more than anything. I enjoyed my visits here and will of course return. Wi-Fi was pretty solid.
Visited november 2013, a late friday night. The place was almost packed but we managed to get seats at last. Pretty much standard BA, decent selection, knowing staff, decent service and the familiar BA atmosphere.
