64 2019-08-20. Nice space, fairly large with a rooftop patio that we didn’t notice until we left. Oops! There is a smaller shady patio downstairs. Large tasty crab cakes. 5 house beers on tap, four core offerings and a seasonal. The flight came with a glass of pretzels in the sixth slot! Worth a visit but the beer didn't really impress today. |
64 A standard brewpub in the quaint non-depressing part of Duncan. Service was okay, food was decent and beers were average. Okay stop for a meal but I wouldn't go out of my way to try the beers. |
50 Located right in the heart of Duncan. It can be difficult to find a parking spot out front. They had 5 beers on tap when I went, and you can order them all in a flight for the pretty hefty price of ~$13 (including tax) - wasn’t impressed with that. The beer itself is mostly pretty weak, with some off-notes in many of the beers. Service is super friendly, however. And the place itself is nicely set-up. Can’t recommend it due to the beer, but you can’t get their beer too many other places, especially not in Vancouver, so if you something new, it’s worth a shot. |
78 Nice space in a great little commercial area. Service was really good and if you are staying locally they have a van for drop offs and pickups. Selection of beer is limited to what they brew, which is decent. Food is OK. Value is great, very well priced. Overall I think it is a nice place to visit, the brewer is a great guy who came out and chatted. Very passionate and approachable. |
62 Craft beer here is just average. Lacks flavour and served much too cold. The porter was lifeless and drab. No head and bland. I complained and the brewmeister actually came down to talk to me and asked my advice, strange but true. They were very courteous though and offered me and my buddy free pints and tasters. |
54 Good to find a brewpub in a small town, nevertheless the choice is limited and not exactly exciting; the beers are served too cold. As usual, too many waitresses around, and they don’t even seem to care for deserving the "tip".. |
62 Visited December 22nd, 2006. Gorgeous location, great atmosphere - nice use of space and creation of distinct sections with a family restaurant area near the fireplace, a small sports bar and a separate eating area of gossipers on the second landing. Full exposure of the brewing equipment, modern interior with exposed cedar beams everywhere. Five beers on tap and attractive servers. My Beef Dip ($11) was very good though somewhat small (7") however the "Porter au jus" was unbelievably delicious. I could have drank it as a stew. Only real complaint is the beers are served WAY TOO COLD - around 4 degrees Celsius which means spending 20 minutes waiting for them to get to a temperature where flavour comes out. |
60 Craig Street Brewpub is a delightfully classy pub and a great addition to the beer world of Vancouver Island. The bar came from a 1906 Montreal hotel. The owners also bought all the original paneling from the same hotel and it has been used throughout the establishment. Reproductions of many of E.J. Hughes’ paintings hang throughout the building giving the pub a strong West Coast feeling.
Brewer Chris Gress was a Victoria home brewer who trained with Sean Hoyne. Sean, the brewer at Canoe in Victoria. Try the Craig Street Toolbox for $10.00. This is a sample of each beer, and it came with a glass of peanuts. Incidentally, customers are welcome to get beer at the self-serve bar. There is seating, including the rooftop patio, for 220.
