Visited around 6 PM on a Saturday. Could have made a reservation online, but opted to try walking in. That worked perfectly. Plenty of seating when we arrived, but full when we left. There are only 5 or so tables and a bar in this place. Max capacity is probably around 50 people. It has the vibe of an underground beer cellar in Belgium. Pretty damn cool. Beer selection is heavy on Belgian influence, but the do carry a few local selections as well. We went all Dutyand Belgian in our food order with croquettes, mussels, and fries. Everything was world class and on par with the real thing we had across the pond. If you get the fries, go with the pesto mayo as one of your two. Delicious! Prices are great, too. Meal for two plus a beer for $50 inclusive of tip.

Visited before a show at Rock and Roll Hotel. Small bar as you walk in with some tables and patio towards the back. Decent selection of beers on draft and a solid bottle list. Food was very good. Pricy beer especially bottles. Service was very good. If they were closer to Metro than Union Station, I’d visit more often.

Hidden Belgian restaurant on H St with no noticeable sign, secret speakeasy entrance. Would never see this place in a million years. Inside is cramped, wooden, uninsulated. Freezing when we were in there. Small tap list of maybe 7 beers. Moderate to weak bottle list. Prices were nuts up to $13 a pour for an Evil Twin double IPA. Decent pours. Mussels and frites were solid, but not wort the $65 I paid for two mussels entrees and one beer! Service okay. Tables cramped. Could not accommodate a group of 8-9. Did not want to split tabs. Bathrooms clean. Taps including evil twin, blue mountain, gregorious trappenstenbier, some odd Belgian stuff. Tap list is not update on their website which is annoying. Not even updated that quickly on the chalk board.

Situated in improving-neighborhood, came here during Hurricane Sandy, perfect time for it too. Ran in from the rain to find all wood and brick, cramped, sitting next to boxes and supplies, amazingly rustic Belgian vibe. Bar sits 12, maybe another 12 at tables. Bleu cheese mussels, fries, and bison chili were all kickass. Small draft list but good Belgian bottle list, all classics included. Food prices tolerable but beer prices are ridiculously high, (Rochefort 10 for $16). Still worth it for the vibe and food-beer quality.

A small very traditional pub on H St. DC. Seating for no more than 30 people at any given time, and usually at least an hour wait, especially on weekends. Not easily accessible except by bus or cab but when the streetcar is finished in 2013 should be a lot easier. The service is good and staff are knowledgeable. Selection is almost exclusively belgian or belgian styles, and you won’t find anything especially rare. But the food is where this place really shines. Everything is fantastic, especially the fries and mussels. Prices are very high, but I would go for the food, the beer is a bonus.

A gastropub on the burgeoning H St., this place has a very cool atmosphere and serves reasonably priced and delicious food (maybe the best frites in town!). Oh, and there is a great selection of Belgian beers to go with that food. Or to go without food. Great staff brings it to you. One of the best places to drink beer in DC.

Epic. Looks like it’s straight out of Brugge. Low light, low ceilings, old wood and brick. Extremely expensive beer list, like Orval for $15 when most other expensive places won’t go over $11-12, and this spot is located in a less-than-high class part of DC... basically an in-progress gentrification going on outside with enough of old ghetto vibe still going on to make you worry about where you park. That said, the mussels and frites were spot on. Spendy but worthy.

A former doctor’s surgery, with lots of character. Patrick and staff are very knowledgeable, trained with Tim Webb’s Good Beer Guide. Fair selection, nothing too rare, but occasional off-menu surprises. Very expensive beers. Great food. very crowded since they were featured on some TV cooking show. Come on Tuesdays and sit at the upstairs bar if you want a more personal experience. Bad neighborhood, but improving - try Palace of Wonders if you like sword-swallowing bartenders, but don’t expect good beers there.

Great ambiance; very hole-in-the-wall & unassuming; low key. Get there early unless you want to fight the crowd. No reservations, & the place fills up very quickly. Lots of different Belgians, but nothing extraordinary. I had the St. Bernadus tripel on tap. Prices are really quite reasonable (very close to liquor store prices). Bartender was less than attentive, to say the least. Rock ’n Roll Hotel & Palace of Wonders are on the same street within 500ft of this place, so plenty to do. Going back tomorrow, & plan to go frequently.

50 Belgian beers, plus mussels and frites makes a nice option in an area of town that isn’t known for its beer culture (to put it mildly), and is very near to us. Nothing rare on their list, but quality abounds. Our server was polite but (to coin a term) anti-effusive. It was definitely a hole in the wall, and we loved the ambiance. Our server kept picking music from the jukebox, and while it’s nothing we would have selected, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was served quickly and didn’t disappoint. I drank Houblon, while Kathy had Chimay White. Not sure if we enjoyed it so much due to it being one of the first nights we got a babysitter so it was just the two of us, but all the same, we’ll be back.
