66 What a strange little place.. you enter out of tourist hell and the edge of Chinatown into a little courtyard and a place made up of a couple of main rooms. We went for the more coffee/tea focused room which had an amazing coffee smell and certainly looks more like a coffee place than a bar/restaurant. The other room has the bar and taps. They still have the De Molen beer made for them, though other taps are not unique. Even so, I managed to get a nice tick. As far as food goes, fondue is certainly the house specifically. Pretty decent too. Friendly and helpful service and overall a nice little place for a bite to eat and a decent beer. |
58 Very unique place located in an area in which you wouldn’t expect this at all, I think I passed here quite a few times without even recognizing it. It’s actually a coffee and tea bar and restaurant which includes a shop as well. Besides that, they apparently had an interesting range of beers brewed for them by De Molen, while there was only one left during my visit, and that had only recently been added again. All the other beers have not been brewed for quite a while according to the staff, and there were also no bottles to take away. There were like ten taps as well, but only this one beer was available. Great atmosphere though, very cozy and quiet in between this hectic area, lots of old wooden interior and with a small patio in front of it. One of the few places where you can taste typical Dutch food, the pancake I tried was not bad at all. Staff is very friendly as well, prices are absolutely okay. Rated this as a beer place, otherwise the score would have been much higher. Would always go back for some food if I was around again though. |
50 A coffee and tea bar . They sell also 3 de molen beer. Friendly staff. |
74 Still kind of a "hidden gem" in Amsterdam, although it is situated in a street full of nice bars and tourist traps (both). Hofje van Wijs is a decent coffee and tea bar, but is is much more than that. They offer great food and, last but not least, they tap unique beers with tea and coffee in it. The recipes are their own, but the beers are brewed at De Molen. They have some other beers occaisionally, from De Prael for example, and they have a nice selection of jenever. Service is friendly, but not always efficient. |
74 Basicly a coffee and tea bar and shop in the touristy part of Amsterdam, but as mentioned they serve a couple of nice tea and coffee-infused beers. The smell of fresh coffee and tea is all around the shop/restaurant and is easily one of the best aroma’s you can have in a bar if you ask me. Good atmosphere, had a nice chat with one of the owners. Didn’t try any of the food. A definite recommendation for a quick early afternoon stop. |
58 Walked into this place by coincidence.
Only had Smokin Gun and Vuur en Vlam from tap. Ok interior, good service, fine food, just a few beers... But it’s easy findable, located close to the station and accesable from the backdoor.
Definitely try again when in Amsterdam again. |
64 Brought my wife to have lunch, and got the chance to try the three de Molen brews that can only be found here. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, big portions of good food and also good beers. Although the selection is small, it’s worth a detour. |
62 Close to the railway station. As Borresteijn points out: the place to taste the tea beers from De Molen. Didn’t eat there, but it is a great quiet place to enjoy your lunch with a world class cup of coffee or tea. Service by giggling and chaotic but friendly student girls. Cheaper as you might expect. |
68 The reason I added this place is the availability of 4 De Molen beers, 3 of them brewed for Hofje van Wijs exclusively with their tea. This shop/lunchroom/small restaurant is actually a coffee and tea shop, with all kinds of high end stuff. De Molen uses their Kopi Loewak for example. Looks like a really old grocery store where they have all the tea, next to it is the lunchroom/restaurant, with next to that the shop. When I was there they had 2 beers made with tea, the Kopi Loewak stout and Heineken. The third tea-beer was out, don’t know if they’ll get it back again. I hope so, because it was with Lapsang Souchong tea, and I love that. Even if they didn’t have the beers, this would still be a really nice place to go for some lunch in their enclosed patio, and head for De Prael afterwards, which is just around the corner. |
