80 A solid pub in downtown Indy. The selection is good, as is the service. Prices are decent too. Didn’t eat, but they have food. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. |
88 The flat burgers and onion rings are awesome. Good bottled beer/whiskey/wine selection. |
74 (Visited 04/2012): MacNniven’s is located in downtown Indianapolis on Massachusetts Ave. Street parking is fairly abundant in the immediate area.
The inside opens to two distinct areas. he restaurant side is on the left and has table seating, and the right side features the bar. Brick interior with windows facing the street. Lots of fans and worn wood, and TVs here and there. MacNiven’s has around 12 draught options with brewers like Sun King, Belhaven, Fountain Square, Flat 12 and Three Floyds represented. 100+ bottles too with highlights from Stone, Thirsty Dog, Chimay and Delirium Tremens. Also a hand pull from Sun King. Service at the bar was solid on my visit. My meal at MacNiven’s was unique and enjoyable. I had the Angus Burger which is served flat as a pancake. All in all this is a nice spot for beer lovers to visit in downtown Indy. |
86 This is a great bar with terrific beers and suer scotch lineup. Great look and feel. Super place. |
60 Visited before attending a concert on a recent trip to Indy. Laid back pub vibe. Didn’t eat anything so I can’t comment on the food. A dozen or so taps with some local brews - Sun King, Flat12, Upland, and Three Floyd’s. The bartender was nice and knowledgable. |
64 A Scottish-style bar in downtown Indy. There is a "bar" section and "restaurant" section, although both sides do join together. There is a long straight bar with several large-screen TVs. The draught menu features maybe 10-12 taps, although none were particularly impressive (they do have some Sun King and Three Floyds on tap). They do have some traditional Scottish cuisine as well. I got the steak pie, which was better in the description than real life, but decent. Overall, not a place I would go to again, at least for their beer. |
78 Nice place. Tight seating. Nice beer selection and they seem to have kegs rotating pretty frequently. Some of the harder to find beers on tap. Food is good. |
72 Hasn’t been rated in a while so I’ll gladly give an update. Nice scot pub with an emphasis on scotch whiskey and Scottish cuisine.. They have an amazing sausage wrapped hard boiled egg, and a mean haggis. Extremely quick food service and very friendly staff. Lots of bottles broken down into styles on the menu.. With a Scottish beer section as well. Solid offerings & some regional stuff that’s probably not easy to get ahold of... I enjoyed the three floyds stuff cause it’s not back home. |
76 Easy to find location and parking in the front on the street. Remodeled building. Bar in the middle with kitchen in the back. Freindly staff. Good selection and enjoyed trying the Sun King beers. I had lunch and had good app portions and the flavor and freshness was very good. I will go back when I am in Indy. |
72 Good beer, good food, and a men’s room that’s an ode to Scottish legend Sean Connery...how can ya beat that? ManNiven’s is a nice pub with a pretty good beer selection (draught and bottle) and some tasty food. The ambiance is effective though it can be quite loud at times. The food is good and, unlike many "pubs" in the US, it does offer some authentic cross-pond favorites (seriously...how many "Irish" pubs offer nothing remotely Irish?...far too many!). I enjoyed the steak pie during my visit, and it was very tasty. I didn’t consider the price too high for a dish containing beef fillet, but I did find the portion somewhat meager. However, others in my party ordered the burger which was in no way small, so perhaps it was the luck of the draw that night. Also, if you’re in the mood for a bit of scotch whisky, this place has a ridiculously good selection. |
