The Hills Market

Stopped in here the other day and man did they improve their selection. The new beer guy was very helpful and said that he was working on making the store a go to place for beer. Prices seemed to be the same as everywhere else. They gladly broke up 6 packs for me to make singles. Will definitely be coming back.

I stopped in here last night too while killing some time after reading Dogbrick’s review. The ambiance is fairly good in this place. NIce gourmet grocery store with lots of goodies. The beer is all along the left wall in a cooler. They had a fair selection but not much that would impress beer geeks that are used to frequenting the shops.. Oh and they don’t have Thirsty dog anymore either. Would be a nice place to pick up a 6 if you had other shopping to do, but the Anderson’s selection is much larger and isn’t far from here.

The Hills Market is a small boutique grocery store located north of where Rt 315 merges with Olentangy River Rd. It is located in a small shopping plaza and parking should not be a problem. As with Jubilee Foods in Worthington, I never would have expected a mom-and-pop grocery store like this to have a good beer selection but I was mistaken.

The beer/wine aisle is all the way to the left side of the store and 95% of the beer is cooled. You can find beers from Otter Creek, Unibroue, Lakefront, Victory, Tabernash, Rockies Brewing etc. There is also a decent local/regional selection of brews by GLBC, CBC and Thirsty Dog. Most everything is in 6-packs, but they do have a few samplers and a limited selection of mix and match singles that are a good price to boot.

Being a grocery store don’t expect too much from some of the staff in the way of beer knowledge. You should know what you want before going in. However in recent years they have expanded their focus on beer including weekly tastings on the patio, and they have hosted beer book signings.

They also have a deli and serve pizza. Fish fries, barbecues and the like are hosted periodically as well.

Overall this is a worthwhile stop in the northern Columbus area.
