I've never disliked a place so much! I was drawn to this bar because of the philosophy of no menu and that you had to explain the type of beer you wanted and he would make a choice for you. However, when asked what type of flavor I wanted I could barely get a word out without him interrupting and saying that what I said was not a flavor. I said I wanted a beer with a nice malty backbone, with maybe some caramel, not too sweet and a little dried fruit. However, I guess none of that was a flavor for him and after all of this he offers me a Duvel this is just not worth it and I would never recommend that to anybody.

This place, and Piet is the absolute best thing this Norwegian has experienced in a long time. Don’t think I’ve laughed and learned so much in a beer place before. Piet’s philosophy is astoundingly awesome, he knows his stuff, and he’s funny as all hell. What a great evening. Thank you Piet & Mery!

Well, I was warned this place could be either really nice or then really horrible. Mery was alone behind the counter when we arrived, and the service was really friendly and if something from the list on the wall was sold out she would recommend an alternative. Once Piet arrived, the service continued somewhat good, although he wasn’t very happy with people asking for beers from the list which were sold out, and he would recommend something instead, and I would then ask for another beer than he recommended. Either it’s an attitude, or then he just didn’t understand the ticker point of view. Anyhow, a quite "personal" place, which I still enjoyed being in. The selection was a bit so-so, quite many "evident" things, and a few more strange things on the list. Most beer stuff here is Belgian, with just a few Dutch ones in between.

Really nice bar. the bar keeper appears a bit reserved or cold even but tries to hook you up with the right beer by leading you into the "right" direction. there are only nuts to eat and you throw the shells on the floor. Nice experience and you definitely should go there when in Maastricht.

The owner is a special one i asked for pannepot beer, he didnt have it, i told him give me any other beer but not heineken. He really was pissed of and didnt serve anything. He was also angry and agressive towards my friends because they rang his doorbell haha. Well you can say he has no humour, i think there are better places in maastricht

Beautifully decorated cosy little bar. Never drunk the same beer once in this place (and I’ve been here many many times): they keep changing their selection and the owner’s knowledge of pairing beers and exploring other characteristics of beers you’ve tasted before is a big plus. Downside is his mood...

This place has been on the market for three years now but they cannot sell it because people come here for Piet and Mery, who run it. He may be an arrogant dick but he always has been. I see him as the antithesis of the out-the-peg sycophantic crowd pleasers found running most businesses nowadays. The failure to ban smoking is just railing against the machine. It’s a thoughtful beer range too.
