Stopped in for a quick beer after lunch and to see the third highest rated place in Monterey. Mostly it was a block away from Alvarado Strew Brewery. Not much in the way of beer here. I mean, they have a good number of taps but most of it is uninteresting. That said you CAN find a decent IPA here. Lagunitas, Firestone, Green Flash, Deschutes, Ninkasi, and Coroado. Beyond that they have a local beer on tap which is kind of nice, though I didn’t try it (English Ales up the road in Marina). It’s kind of an English pub during the day. There is a small bar right up against he taps. Dance club by night. The yelp reviews are pretty funny if you get really bored. Sounds like a place I don’t want to be at night. I was there during the middle of the day so it was pretty empty. Did not try the food but from the sounds of it that might be the best part of this place. |
58 Election Night 2012. This is the other bar in town where people come to get smashed, and stand around or play darts. Huge capacity. Serveral craft taps, though nothing appealed, it was an amber here and a pale there, otherwise the macros and macro imports. Big TVs to keep track of the election, which nobody was. Most people come here for the eats. Service was fine. |
62 Seems to be THE local hangout for the area. Great prices, especially during happy hour. Didn’t try the food. Beer selection was uninspired, basically 4 or so decent choices out of 19 taps, and no interesting bottles. Decent place to hang out, but the beer needs improvement. |
76 I visited this place once while on a business trip. Dark interior, food was fine. I found a good value here in what can be a fairly expensive town. The outside deck was fun, and there happened to be a band. I happened upon $2 Sierra Nevada drafts, with ten or twelve styles to choose from. A good overall place, with good value and, while no surprises, a good section of beers. |
70 Nice Pub, good food and service. It got crowded and loud after 9:30. |
82 When it had cask ale it was just great. Drop in and you might get lucky. The beers include local brews that are not widely distributed. The atmosphere is quite pubby. How much attention you get depends on the crowd level. It is likely the best pub experience in town. |
