Lefty's Mystery Box #4
At 8.4 % it's a very heavy ipa. Deep flavor, a little too heavy for me. Pretty hoppy with plenty of bitter. Def not bad, not a favorite ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lefty's Graham Cracker Porter
12oz can. Pours brown with a small beige head. Aroma is toffee and a little cracker malt. Taste is graham cracker, toffee, and faint roast. Light-medium body. Moderate+ carbonation. A little thin but serviceable. It would be a stretch to call this a porter, but it is moderately enjoyable all the same.

16oz can shared by Chalumeaux. Thanks, TJ! Pours orange brown with an off white head. Aroma is caramel, dark malt extract. This has a thin mouth, despite honey, caramel sweetness. Very little grassy hop. Grass bitterness in the finish.

Chalumeaux with this 16 oz. can share, thanks T.j. The pine resin is pretty bold upfront with the spicy rye in the base of the beer. Crystal malts and large amount of caramel are here in abundance. After it warmed up a bit the alcohol was also noticed. The his really could use some work. Very malty with way too much caramel for my tastes.

Lefty's English Style India Pale Ale
Orange pour with a fluffy head. The English invented IPAs, but the contemporary English style IPA is not very popular. It’s a category in the beer judge program but not in RB. This seems like a good example of the style. Light caramel malt, a bitter finish - a little too bitter, and a sweet, fruity aroma. Pretty good.

Lefty's Graham Cracker Porter
Pretty plain bottle and it pours like a Coke. But things get better from there. It does have a nice graham cracker flavor, with lots of malty sweetness, some cola, and no unpleasant notes. It tastes a bit like a bock. Hops add a touch of pine around the edges. The aroma is fairly pleasant as well. Good.

Lefty's Doc's Double Whammy I.P.A.
Can from Table and Vine. Burnt orange copper with long lasting head and lace. Citrus apple fresh pine aroma. Medium-light peach toffee orange biscuity sweetness with medium citrus earthy pepper bitterness in dry finish with almost a hint of smokiness [edit: someone else said "tea notes" which seems pretty accurate]. Medium body nicely carbonated to avoid but but accentuated hops. Very good.

Lefty's Mystery Box #4
Draught at Ginger Man Boston, 3/31/17.
Strange dark copper-chestnut appearance is glassy with a beige head atop showing moderate-to-low retention.
Potpourri, deep juniper, wintergreen and finally spicy, dank galaxy all sit on a strange specialty malt backdrop which adds an almost earthy, wood-like character (or maybe that’s just more raw hop). I wouldn’t call this overly juicy, though once you get past all of the weird notes, there is certainly some guava-pineapple. Warming proves beneficial, as it does soften up and light cherry and mango emerge as well as a sweet, honey and vanilla-like maltiness.
In the mouth it’s very dry, given to the specialty malt, yet has a chewy enough texture on the backend to prevent it from getting husky/astringent or too given over to the bitterness (of which there isn’t all that much). Cherry, orange rind, mandarin oranges, wintergreen, dank, leafy, spicy galaxy and more all whirl about and it’s tough to know just what to make of this beer. Every sip starts out dry and somewhat bland but the flavor crescendos drastically in to a much more sweet and juicy finish. Weird. Intriguing. Will try more Lefty’s to get a better handle.

Lefty's Wedding Daze Stout
Very dark brown with medium brown head. Aroma toasty malt, wood, coffee, caramel. Full body, somewhat boozy but not unpleasantly so. Flavor is only mildly sweet, wood and mocha and caramel predominate. Off dry finish. Fairly drinkable for a beer this size, complex too. Nice.

Lefty's Wicked Sticky IPA
Bottle. Pours almost clear, light-brown with a frothy, beige, one-finger head that leaves fair lacing. The first review characterizes it very well. Not ’outrageously tasty’ as the label says. Kinda ho-hum. Just skip it.

Bottle. Pours clear, light-brown with a foamy to creamy, light-brown, mostly lasting, head that leaves very good lacing. Aroma of pine, hints of sweet citrus, soft-ripened cheeses and funky mold. I’d have it again.

Lefty's Maple Oatmeal Stout - Barrel Aged
Bomber bottle at Lenner, thanks a lot, Jaryn! Near black with mocca head. Aroma has big maple notes, barrel, vanilla, bitter chocolate, slight coffee and some roasty slight burnt notes. Taste is sour. I get the feeling that this isnt supposed to be sour, either some funky bugs got into the barrel or Lefty has some isseus. Taste is very different from the aroma, no maple here at all. Sour notes, brown malts, faint alcohol and chocolate/coffee notes.

Lefty's India Pale Ale
Disappointing offering from Lefty’s poured into an English pub glass. Weak flavored, mild tasting, not overly malty and certainly not bitter or especially hoppy, I find little to recommend in this one. Once again, I find myself questioning whether I’m rating the style, rather than the brew. This may be a more accurate representation of an English IPA than so many other stronger and hoppier brews, but I just don’t find it very interesting at all.

Lefty's India Pale Ale
Hazy orange-brown. Ok but somewhat weak aroma of pine. Medium body, lightly carbonated. Flavor is on the sweet side, there is some piney and citrusy hops. It’s on the sweet side, balance is decent but perhaps because neither the hops or malt stand out much. Still, drinkable with nothing particularly offensive about it.

Lefty's Wicked Sticky IPA
Nice aroma of citrus, tropical fruit and pine. Unfortunately the flavor does not match up, there’s some generic bitterness but not much in the way of hops, with an off-taste in the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden. Medium body. Hazy brown-orange color. More or less drinkable but that’s about it.

Lefty's Archie's Imperial Porter
Bottle shared in NH. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is chocolate, earthy, quite a lot of tang, cake and some earthy roast. The taste is really tangy, sour roast, earth, jammy berry, some acidity, lactic twang and green apple with a short, tangy finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. Infected. Should be that much tang going on in this sort of beer. Unfortunate.

Lefty's Archie's Imperial Porter
Bottle shared in NH. Infected! Pours clear brown-red with minimal head. The ode has tart berries, prunes, leather. Light sweet flavor, some tart cherries, leather berries, fruits. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Tart finish, some sugary fruits. So so. It shouldn’t be sour, though, so this is a mistake of a beer.

Lefty's Honey Brown Ale
This is a very easy to drink beer. Nice, light amber apperance, perhaps even reminiscent of a honey color. Vibrant aroma and a very smooth taste with a mild carbonation. Quite a good taste; the honey is mellow but present (I possibly would have enjoyed just a bit more honey flavor). However, the ale is not too sweet, which is definitely a good thing. Certainly worth trying.

Lefty's Big Brekkie Breakfast Stout
My buddy Adrien picked this up in a trip to see his folks. Slightly aged bottle. The aroma is really nice. Coffee comes through with roasted malts and a light maple sugar note. The flavor shows me the maple sugar up front with coffee a slightly lingering affect in the finish. The body does have the nice chewy oats that help enhance the stout.

The body is a big positive since I love the chewiness. I don’t find bacon anyplace but the other flavors are pretty well integrated. Slightly above average and I had no problem drinking this stout. Maybe the bottling problem have been corrected by the brewer. This bottle had some time to sit and had no problem whatsoever. I would love to sample on draft to see if bacon can be found.
