3.5 Unicorn Unicorn Juice Taster at brewery. Hzy pour with a light airy head. Aroma and taste featured very light, subdued tropical fruity notes, while the taste intriduced a nice bitterness that lasted throughout. 3 Unicorn Schwarzbier Taster at brewery. Ddarl brown pour, some light sneaking through. Mild roasty aroma and taste. I felt it wasn't black or bitter enough, and the brewere agreed. A bit torn on this one, as the body was nice and full, smooth, but there was an odd bitterenss to it that seemed like coffee. Enough of this element to distract from the malty base. 3.9 Unicorn Scottish Lager Taster at taproom, chatting with brewer. Golden pour with a little cloudiness. Aroma yields the hints of peat, light smokiness. Peat continues in the flavor, earthy. 3.6 Portland U-Brew Unicorn Galaxy Tap at the brewpub. A: Light caramel gold with a thin white head. N: Pineapple, grapefruit, biscuit, cracker, some pine, and earth. 3.3 Portland U-Brew Maple Spiced Porter Tap at the brewery. A: Dark black with a cappuccino head. N: Maple, all-spice, sassafras, cocoa, smoke, peat, coffee and espresso. T: Goodly bitter and then sweet. Also very roasty. M: Medium body, soft carbonation, no alcohol. O: Interesting concoction. While I enjoyed it for what it was, I couldn’t say I recommend it because it’s kind of strange with all the spices thrown into the tank. Saturday, February 13, 2016 | |
