Terminal Gravity Brewing Company Reviews

Terminal Gravity Roshambo Hoppy Pale Ale
This brewery has been at once one of my favorites and at other times produces some of my worst ratings..so here goes! 12 oz. single bottle from Lifesource in Salem OR. $1.79 Pours a simple clear golden colour with a rich and thick off white head, Aroma is not very strong..pale malts and slightly fruity hop. Taste far better.very "rich" and deep hop bitterness..these Denali hops are fruity but not over the top..just a mellow fruitfulness Malts compliment and balance. Nice . Palate compliments the new hops..its medium and softly carbonated..leading to a satisfying mouth feel. Nice smooth bitter ale..well done TG..

Terminal Gravity Schwarzbier
Pint in Westside Taphouse in West Salem. OR. $6 Pours a dark brown cola color with a really attractive cream colored head. Chocolate and coffee aromas..maybe a bit of ash and nuttiness. Smooth mild chocolate and medium roast coffee tastes..and slightest drying ash. Great. Very pleasing mouth feel. Dry and well carbonated. A very nice beer here.

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Dark ebony pour with thick, lasting head. Full aroma of roasted grains, some coffee bitterness apparent. Taste brings more roast grains, but not overly bitter, pretty damn smooth. Mouthfeel is great too. All round decent stout.

Terminal Gravity Schwarzbier
Draft at Growler Guys. Glad to see this style make an appearance in the NW. Pretty spot on, too. Dark malts abound, perhaps not as bitter as a Kostritzer, but close. Dark brown with small wispy head. Aroma is pure roast grains, coffee notes. Taste also is straight up toasty and burnt toast. Light lager body carries it through. Prost!

Terminal Gravity Eagle Cap IPA
Pours a hazy medium gold with a hint of orange. Nice white head that isn’t large in size but sticks to the top of the beer like a melted marshmallow. A bit more depth of color than many IPAs. This beer looks citrusy and the aroma has a nice bit of citrus as well, along with a nice note of hops. The flavor is a bit sweeter than the aroma would let on, but it is balanced out with a bit of bitter hop on the back end. Crisp in the mouth. I like this as a winter IPA. It has a bit more body and sweetness than a typical IPA but still has a nice hoppy flavor.

Terminal Gravity Friggin’ Fresh
Draft at Bitter Creek. Lovely looking, but kind of subdued. Even for an IPA, very toned down. Hard to follow Fremont, it I expected a bigger hop presence. Slick, slippery and beautiful, but underwhelming.

Sample at the 29th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival on 07/30/2016. Cloudy yellow-gold color with a medium thin white head that evaporates quickly to a film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of tart fruit, yeast and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of tart citrus, floral yeast and malt. The finish is tart with a lemony aftertaste. Above average overall.

Terminal Gravity IPA
355ml bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a small, creamy, long lasting, off-white head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of peach, apricot, caramel malt and bread. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, toasted malt, grapefruit, grass, spice and pine with a dry, bitter, resiny finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Very malty ipa, unbalanced and kind of weird but still ok.

Terminal Gravity Über Östën #1
Tried it at the Oregon Brewers’ Fest yesterday, and liked it enough to pour it today. There was no "#1" in the name, but it appears to have been the same beer. I made my selections based on low fg - or terminal gravity - looking for the least sweet beers, and this measured 0.9. With its fairly low alcohol, I expected it to taste drier, but it was well balanced. Nicely tart and lightly sour, I got away with recommending it to people who wrinkled their noses when I described it as sour. It changed a lot of minds this afternoon. My experiences with sours have all been with Belgians, but I now know I want to pay attention to Berliner Weisses.

Terminal Gravity Eagle Cap IPA
12 oz single purchased from Lifesource in Salem, Oregon. $1.79 Pours a clear gold colour with a medium sized thick and frothy off white head. Oh my..aroma not great..creamed corn, cardboard little leafy hop maybe. Taste dull, again corn then we get some hopiness..a herbal hops, malts getting nutty. Overall strange. Mouth feel is just fine..low carbonation but smooth enough. This is an odd beer..its like an old style micro blonde ale. Its not bad per say just not my idea of an IPA in 2006 let alone 2016.

Terminal Gravity Tap Out
Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Malty, big fat fruity nose, with overripe peaches, maybe some woodiness, too. Copper/orange color, fairly thin head. Thick, syrupy fruit, dates, oranges, some wine or light brandy, a bit phenolic in mid and final. Meaium-heavy body, some alc presence on tongue. Hot aroma, boozy and fruity. A bit much, really, like a fortified fruit beer.

Bottle. Aroma is green olive and citrus. Taste is heavy malt but still delicious. Really, really heavy malt. Bitterness is just right though. Exceptionally unbalanced, yet there is something about the flavor that is drawing me in. Enjoyable and weird.

Bottle A: Dark red - mostly opaque. Thin drifting off white head. Lacing. N: Toasted malt, pine, grapefruit, biscuit, some bark, damp autumn leaves, onion, burnt brown sugar, and peppercorn. T: Quite bitter, lightly burnt, lightly sweet. M: Medium body, very prickly carbonation, light alcohol burn. O: Throwback IPA. Dry with a big malt bite and the ’characteristic’ lack of intense dry hopping. Still, quite nice.

Terminal Gravity Pale Ale
Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a super hazy orange color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head has a good level of retention maintaining strength for a long time before fading away to leave tons of thick foam on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the brew is massive of a bready and yeasty smell, taking on a drier bready aroma. Along with these strong aromas comes a little bit of a light herbal smell as well. Taste – The taste begins with a very bready taste mixed with a strong yeastiness as would have been anticipated from the nose. These tastes create the base flavor of the brew and are the dominant flavors throughout. There is a bit of lemon citrus upfront which fades a bit as the taste advances being replaced by some grapefruit and herbal hop tastes. A little bit of grassiness comes at the very end, leaving one with a lightly hopped but thick bready taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is super thick and chewy for a brew for a pale with a carbonation level that is rather low. The chewy body was actually kind of good for the big yeasty bread tastes of the brew. Overall – A very thick and bready pale ale with a lighter overall hop hit. Not a bad brew overall, although a little more hop and a tad less thickness may have better suited the style

Terminal Gravity IPA
From a 355ml bottle on 10/3/2016. Pours a slightly cloudy golden with a small head, Has a muted aroma of caramel, honey, some citrus fruit and an odd slightly chemical smell. Take a sip and there’s a bit of sweet caramel malt, lots of sharp sweet and sour citrus, a bit of spice, followed by a big, quite astringent bitterness. The texture is a touch syrupy and the carbonation is soft. This is a bit of a weird one. Not at all typical of a west coast IPA, and comes across as a little unbalanced. On the bright side, it did begin to charm me just a little towards the end.
