City Grille City Stout
tap at brewery-black with a foamy tan topping. roasty, char, dark chocolate, anise, with some light woodsy notes as well. smells pretty nice i must add. palate is full, but would be decent for a session stout. somewhat over-carbonated. flavors are mostly dark chocolate and roast. pretty basic, but clean and straight forward. pretty nice! their best beer IMO

City Grille City Pale Ale
tap at brewpub-clear orange with a fluffy white topping. notes of sugary fruits-mostly citric, flowery and quite floral. pineapple and mangos come to mind. flavors are very citric with notes of oranges, pineapples, light grapefruit. crisp palate that would make this a great session pale. lightly grainy malt husk notes in mid palate. finishes citric sweet and with some lite pine as well. not bad and straight forward pale ale.

City Grille City Amber
tap at brewpub-pours orange with a small white head. another diacytl bomb, but not as bad as the honey wheat. some noticible earthy hops under all the buttery diacytl on the nose. flavors are toasty, buttery, earthy hops, caramel notes, biscuity, and would be pretty good without that diacytl factor. i like the toasty malt undertone on the finish. really would be pretty good if it was clean.

City Grille City Razz
tap at brewpub-copper amber with a small froathy white head. smells like raspberry purie or a raspberry ice bar. some light blackberry notes as well with a minor medicinal quality. lots of berry flavor with a sweet caramel malt undertone. lite palate with lingering sugary notes. crisp, clean and pretty tasty for a fruit beer. my girlfriend loved this thing. not bad!

City Grille Honey Wheat
tap at brewery-Wow,. what went wrong here? This beer poured very hazy orange with no hread whatsoever. aroma is buttered popcorn to the max! a diacytl bomb if i ever had one. flavors are astringent with a very gritty/harshness to the malt profile. man, this is bad. diacytl all over the place. body is thin and watery. very dissapointing.

City Grille City Light
tap at brewpub-pours a shade darker than golden yellow with a big foamy white head. nice spicy hop notes match well with the fresh pale malt husks. doesn’t smell like the typical lite beer. flavors are fresh pale malt, light spicy hops, and some lite pine. body is medium for the style and lays the flavors down very well. Nice way to label something a lite beer when its actually something totally different, but in a good way. could break in the BMC crowd in this college area. Clean finish with lingering spicy hops.

City Grille Pumpkin Spice Ale
Final sample from the Brewhaus. The aroma was what hit me first and foremost. Nutmeg, allspice, cloves...smells great. Not too much either way with the spices. Then the taste. Light and watery, filtered, nothing special about this. Definitely my least favorite of the evening.

Tasted from the brewpub. Fourth from the sampler. Didn’t jot too much about this one. Maple brown amber hue. Strong raspberry aroma. Sugary and sugary! Honeyish.

City Grille City Pale Ale
On tap from the Brewhaus. Third of the night. Great white head retention. Golden honey colored. Zero aroma. Too cold, I guess. But a nice mouthfeel and a sweet-dry lingering hop finish. A little light but lively. Piney, tart and sour. I do believe that this was my favorite of the line. The rating is skewed due to the minimal aroma. But hey, it could be operator error on my part!

City Grille City Light
First of the night, and was pleasantly surprised. This beer was not spectacular, but it was very true to the style, and on the plus side of that. Good white head. Light body and sweet light hop character. Bubblegummy and lively, smooth and crisp.

City Grille City Amber
On tap from the brewery in the Central West End. This was a rushed initial visit, so hopefully I can elaborate at a leter date. Anyway, the notes say...Red amber hue, Great head retention. Bicuit like and malty. Fruity and sweet. Nice malt note. Nutty and dry. Medium bodied. Smooth with a nice dry hop finish. Parallel rings of head all down the glass.

City Grille City Stout
On tap at the brewpub, 2/18/06: Deep black with a nice tan top. Bitterness rules ... coffee, mainly, but with a fruity twist. A tad watery, but that doesn’t seem to unusual for brewpub stouts.

City Grille City Razz
On tap at the brewpub, 2/18/06: Deep red with a good raspberry aroma. Nice berry texture without the syrupy sweetness. Very well balanced. Some fruit beers come out too sweet for me, or too syrupy. This is pretty good.

City Grille Pumpkin Spice Ale
On tap at the brewpub, 2/18/06: Nice orange view and an interesting spicy nose. Quite a little pumpkin pie flavor without being obnoxious. Very good and probably the best they had today.
