tontalus	4.6 Hövels Craftbock Der Hövels Craftbock nimmt schon im Namen für sich in Anspruch etwas Besonderes zu sein. Er kommt bernsteinfarben ins Glas und hat eine gemischtporige, schnell zusammenfallende Krone. Der Geruch nach Honig und Getreide und leichten Röstaromen geht für einen dunklen Bock in Ordnung. Beim Antrunk sehr vielseitig, leicht süß mit nussigem Einschlag wie Maronen, fruchtig wie Trauben und Pflaumen und röstaromatisch wie Kaffee. Dies haben wir laut Etikett 3 Edelmalzen zu verdanken. Welchen wird aber nicht verraten. Beim Abgang merkliche Hopfenbitterkeit, ohne aber den bisher beschriebenen Geschmack zu ändern. Wenig Rezenz aber trotzdem kurzweilig und lecker. Sweetish-malty, quite fruity aroma of raisins, raspberry, caramel and chocolate. Gently sweet, malty, moderately, slightly roasty taste of chocolate, caramel, toasted nuts, raisins and raspberry, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter finish. flying_pig	3.4 Hövels Original 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£3.69): Clear & caramel coloured with a large, 2.5cm head that's foamy, slightly off-white with a few bubbles & good retention. Malty with some lager notes, grain, biscuit, faint herbal notes & the odd dar, Dried fruit at the end. Pours clear brown color with thin creamy tan-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts mild sweet caramelly and grassy, following is bready, minerally and honeyish, mouthfeel is rather dry, while finish is pretty bitter. Der Geruch ist leicht zitronig und ansonsten beliebig. Beim Antrunk leichte Papaja, Zitrone und insgesamt sehr wässrig. Der Gesamteindruck ist trocken. Zlotta	3.8 Hövels Edelbock 0.75 l growler from the brewery, filled yesterday. Almost clear, dark reddish amber with a medium large, dense, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, sultanas, some grains and traces of chocolate. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity taste of caramel, sultanas, nuts, some chocolate and a touch of grains, followed by a short, gently bitter, minimally grassy-spicy finish. Medium to full body, very smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Superbly balanced Bock, rather sweet but with some aromatic hops in the finish, super smooth as well. Not very spectacular taste-wise, but very pleasant overall. Very nice beer, really well-brewed, seems like Hövels have really stepped up their game. Monday, October 17, 2022
snowcrash000	3.7 Hövels Original Pours a slightly cloudy, pale mahogany coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of grainy, bready malt and herbal hops. Taste is a great balance of grainy, bready, slightly caramelly malt and herbal, slightly floral hops, with fruity highlights of dark fruit and red berries; fig, redcurrant and some nutty accents. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready malt, herbal hops and dark/red fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. Haven't had this in ages, but had kinda good memories of it and am glad to have tried it again. While it's not quite on the same level as the classic Düsseldorf Alts, it's certain the best widely distributed Altbier that I've come across so far, even though Hövels actually refuses to call it an Altbier for some reason. Nice balance of bready malts and herbal hops, with a little depth provided by some red/dark fruit and nutty accents. Very nice mouthfeel and beautiful coloration and head as well. Aromas of caramel, grains and toasty brown bread. Taste is fairly sweet at first with more caramel, grains and toasty brown bread with added nuts and a little roasted malt on the finish.
