Nieuwlicht or Nieuw Licht - a historical Dutch spiced beer style, thought to be invented by the brewer Franciscus van den Broek in Heumen by Nijmegen around 1842, becoming popular around the country, but seemingly disappearing in the first half of the 20th century. Supposed known recipes include peculiarities such as usage of 25% spelt and spices such as ginger, orange peel, vanilla and sweet flag (calamus) root. While practically extinct, some brewers have made their interpretations of the style.
