I got into beer in the late 80's in the US when microbreweries were beginning to develop. Memorable gateway beers included Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada Pale, Pete's Wicked Ale (RIP), and lots of Sam Adams Boston Lager. Paulaner Salvator was my first big malty doppelbock and led me into Black & Tans (Yuengling or DIY Guinness and Bass) then ultimately into Imperial Stouts and American Strong Ales. I moved to Oz early in the new millenium to catch a beer boom here. Red IPA's became my go-to style due to my love of big hops and big malts. When both are amped up in Imperial Reds and ASA's I'm a happy consumer. Like many, I've been caught up in the Haze Craze of recent years after my wife muled a Cloudwater back from the UK, but I've also come to appreciate a good Pilsner and funky Brett brews.
