COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a nicely balanced beer and at 72 IBU’s it has a nice mouthful of hops but they do not overpower the multiple layers of flavors. A perfect balance with a spicy rye backdrop, strands of caramel malt, floral and citrus hops & spicy rye flow through with a good dry bitterness. This is an unfiltered ale brewed with Rye malt (hence its reddish color, and its name). Cascade and Centennial hops were used for floral and citrus notes while Magnum hops were used for bittering. Enjoy!

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2023 On a flight in the new Brew Dog place in Las Vegas on 6th December 2022, fourth day of opening. Slight red hue to amber body, beige head that lasted. Rye and caramel aroma with a similar taste, light grassy/floral traces too. Not a huge Rye fan in my beer, but this was fine.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2019 13-Nov-13 22-oz bottle: Sample bottle from the distributor)
This beer pours a clear red-brown body with an inch of dense, tan head that settles to a thin, bubbly sheet and tall ring, leaving wide rings of intricate lacing. The nose is very grainy with a husky character that I usually don't like. Hop aromas are actually pretty light with a somewhat green, grassy quality. On the palate, too, the husky, grainy character of the malt jumps out, with toasty, gently sweet flavors in the background. Hops are kind of green and weedy, somewhat pithy, with medium bitterness. The beer is medium in weight, medium in carbonation, and a bit astringent with tea-like tannins from the grain husks. Overall, this is not very good beer. Maybe it's better on tap, but this isn't an issue I'd relate to the process of bottling, but to the brewing. It just tastes over-sparged leading to too much extraction of the malt husk.

Bottle at home. Pours hazy dark amber with a medium, bubbly light beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is moderate spicy rye and caramel malt, moderate floral and citrus hops, light melanoidin notes (dates, figs) with a soft earthiness. Flavor is moderate floral and citrus hops and bitterness, moderate earthy and spicy rye malt and caramel malt with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation with light alcohol warmth.

Bottle. Pours clear burnt orange tinting to red, large creamy tan head, slow to dissipate and leaving nice lacing. Aroma is malty, caramel, toffee, dark breads, pine. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, spicy rye notes prominent along with caramel, pine. Medium body, a bit creamy. This is a good beer.

On tap at the brewery. Clear light brown pour with an off white head. Lots of malty notes. Good body and mouthfeel.

Bomber from Total Wine in Huntington Beach, CA. Pours ruddy amber with a slight beige head. Smells like a malty amber. Not sure about hop. Maybe citrus. Med body or nearly. Typical chocolate start. It’s bitter, but it’s a rye spice bitter. I like rye beers. But this one isn’t working well for me. Maybe a hop that can control the rye would be good. Till now I couldn’t conceive of too much rye. Persistence pays off. A little fruit is developing, and I’m adjusting to the strong rye.

22oz bottle pours a reddy brown color with a bit of head. Mild hops balanced well against the great malty flavors. A very mild and yet flavorful beer.
