Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Thanks to Rich for the bottle! Poured rich garnety-brown with a very nice cap of dense beige head. The aroma picked up dusty, toasted nutty and caramel notes backed by a splash of detergent.. rather weak overall. The flavor found the same malts at the core plus dry-roasted molasses.. faint, dry coffee bitterness around.. finished dry with more molasses and a hint of vanilla. Light-medium bodied with a scratchy feel on the palate (not sure if it was from carbonation or just dry roastage.. decent feel, and a decent drinker.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a deep mahogany color with a thick small beige head. The aroma is nutty, toasted malts. A nice brown ale; sweet toasted malts, loads of caramel. A good palate; quite creamy. Enjoyable.

Bottle, an old favorite 6’er. Pours a brune body with a tan head. Malty chocolaty body with some nutty and caramel tones. Chewy and creamy despite the low abv. A nice quaff able brown ale.

The aroma was nuts, chocolate. The flavor is a weaker version of the aroma, notes of nuts, chocolate, but not very flavorful. The finish was like noble hops bittering. Medium to medium thick mouthfeel. Ok, not great for a style I normally enjoy.

355mL. Pours a clear, deep reddish amber with practically no head that dissipates quickly. No lacing. Aroma is pretty much nothing. There is some weak toast, biscuit. Taste is burnt toast water. Watery body. Weak. If I blind tasted this I would have probably said O’douls Amber.

pours a deep chestnut color with a medium with a medium tan head...dissipates quickly. aroma is lightly roasty with some malty sweetness to it...caramely? all in all aroma is very faint. flavor is also malty and lightly roasty but has a slight metallic quality and chalkiness. not as flavorful as i hoped it owuld be. mouthfeel is light and lively but the chalky, roasted finish thins out too much for my taste. not quite as good overall as i hoped it would be...

12 oz. bottle. A little more hoppy than some of the other brown ales. Pours dark brown with very little head, a little lacing. The taste is medium bitter roasted nuttiness. Pretty good for the style.
