COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2020 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a slightly murky very dark brown colour with a small beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, molasses, caramel, and liquorice. Taste is more dark fruits, molasses and liquorice notes with some warming alcohol. Medium to full bodied, smooth slightly oily mouthfeel with a sticky molasses, liquorice and sweetish finish. it’s pretty average.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2019 Bottke from BIAB. It pours clear dark brown with a small foamy beige head. The aroma is sweet, toothy, figgy pudding, dried berry, raisin, fruit cake, toasty grain and a touch of spice. The taste is dry, toasty, bitter - sweet, toothy, molasses, fruit cake, rocky road, umami, plum pudding, cocoa powder, wood, light tannin, slightly charred, spice, earth and a liic of booze with a drying, toasty finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. All comes together well. Flavourful. A solid dubbel by all accounts.

Bottle at home, as Adelardus Belgian Dubbel Dark Abbey Ale / Haspengouwse Dubbel. Dark brown with offwhite head. Sweet malts, light roasted, caramel, toffee, dates, figs, raisans, light spices, gale, sage. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium body and soft carbonation. Quite okay.
