COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sometimes - OK, rather often, actually - I find myself asking, "How far can we take it?" Keeping in mind that flavour should be the main objective at all time, the conception of Bumaye was one of those moments. To make it we started out with the baddest imperial stout we have ever brewed, and then added loads of tasty sugars to the fermenter foe extra flavour. To smooth out the roughness, we allowed the beer to mellow in Pinot Noir barrels for more than a year.

An experimental 17% Imperial stout released for Beervana 2012.

Rune (24619) - Tromso, NORWAY - JAN 31, 2021
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2021 500ml compact bottle, 2013 vintage, stored in my cellar for more than two years. Poured a noisy tan-coloured head slowly diminishing over a coal black body. Scattered lacing. Initially lovely aromas of roasted mid-sweet malts, oaky. Well blended taste character of chocolate, prunes, dark bread. and oak vanilla. Vinous impression. Long-lived and warming ending, not too sweet. Perfect slow sipper on a Friday eve. (Tromsø 29.01.2021).

Its strong, complex taste carries vineous, oaky, roasty, and liquorice notes. Ends with a long, strong, warming bittersweet finish. Awesome!

phaleslu (16556) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 30, 2019
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2019 330 ml bottle from The Party Source. Can't remember what year I bought this, but it's been a while. Pours a deep, dark, basically opaque brown with no head. Notes of pinot noir, oak, soy, roasted malts, chocolate, earth, rubber, and baker's chocolate. Medium-full bodied, with low carbonation and a roasty, rich, umami mouthfeel. I should've opened fresher but I still don't think this would be my favorite representation of the style if new.

EvNa (4762) - Ede, NETHERLANDS - APR 24, 2019
UPDATED: APR 24, 2019 Bottle, 2013. Mellow in Pinot Noir barrels for 3.5 years, according to the label. Color: Black, thin light brown head. Aroma: Soy Sauce, rosted malt, vinuous. Taste: Medium sweet, roasted malt with vinuous red wine notes, notes of soy sauce, umami, bit boozy and warming mouthfeel. Dark chocolate hints. Moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Vinuous roasted malt finish. Full body, below average carbonation. Never tasted this beer before, but people who did say that this beer is over his top right now. Wish I had tasted this before because nowadays it still is a good beer but a bit messy and unbalanced in my opinion.
