COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fair trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI We did a label contest and opened it up to the public for this beer. We had so many awesome entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so we have 2 labels for this beer. We stagger the bottles in the six packs but with no order in mind.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2023 A deep dark brown bock with a thick frothy creamy lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark coffee, light mineral notes, herbaceous character, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with light coffee notes, light cereals, light vanilla, pleasant and smooth.

Hazy dark amber color with light brown head. Aroma is really malty with a bit of caramel and coffee notes. Taste starts also malty with a bit of coffee but it’s not a pleasant coffee taste, it’s somehow bitter and stale. Slightly on the sweet side, just slightly roasty and bitter on the finish. Body is quite light and effervescent and the alcohol is quite present. Not bad but not really my type of beer.

Lahev: Cloudy, amber coloured, smaller lacy off-white head; solid coffeeish and roasty nose, nutty and caramelly, too, accompanied by tannic and port-vinous aromas; dryish bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, quite soft; lingering - again - dryish coffeeish and vinous and bitter-malty finish. Very, very good…

Bottle (BBF 01.10.14). Dark amber with a large beige head. Sweet aroma of plums, dates, cocoa, caramel and coffee. Flavour is sweet with notes of plums, cocoa and coffee. Some bitterness, but the finish is mostly coffee and plums. Vinous with an intense aroma and a highly drinkable beer.

Four pack courtesy of Katie. Smell is really nice. Coffee is intense. Appearance is burnt caramel. Very crisp flavor profile, I guess I don’t drink much lager. Coffee is underwhelming. the head sticks around forever, which I like.
