COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2023 Oh my. Rare air here. Just a massive, bitter, old-school IPA, full of orange marmalade and caramel and a shitload of pine, with a giant, clingy bitterness on the finish. Goddamn what a beer.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2022 Another fortunate acquisition from Halftime a month or two ago. A highly regarded beer apparently, Three Floyds has been good to me lately. A 16 oz can, cold, now opened and pouring into my ABGB snifter. I determine a semi-transparent, gold body topped by a proper head of fully white foam. I smells hops, tropical fruit and meadow. At last I get to the drink. Yes, this is a pretty solid IIPA. It tastes new wave with mango and pineapple and also old school with a strong hit of hops along with a bit of pine, malt and white bread. A good combination of sweet and bitter. A brew that touches a lot of bases. Makes for a fine day, a beer like this.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2022 16oz can from Beers of the World. Golden pour with a white fluffy head. Fruity, malty aroma, caramel, pine. Taste is some piney, mildly astringent hops coupled with sweet toffee notes. Bitter ess and warmth rise up at the finish.

MNAle (694) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 1, 2022
UPDATED: MAY 1, 2022 Clear deep amber. Moderately carbonated. Very tall off-white head. The head is thick and creamy appearing with excellent retention. The surface becomes rocky and pitted as it does slowly recede. The aroma is old-school IPA. Citrus – grapefruit, hints of pine and resin. Melon. Crackers and bread. The initial taste favors the crackers and melon for the first few milliseconds, but with the grapefruit and pine coming quickly and dominating. Yet, these flavors back off a bit near the finish with a woody tannin and hops bitterness sharpening the end. The aftertaste lingering is bitter grapefruit, tannin and pine, and bitter. And, yet, the finish and aftertaste is on the sweet side. The alcohol is nowhere to be found except in the eventual buzz. The bitterness in the aftertaste intensifies as I progress through the beer, but if anything, that just makes this beer even better. Very well balanced. The mouth feel is substantial – creamy, thick even for an IPA. Overall, this is in line with my expectations. That may sound less than high praise, except that my expectations were quite high to begin with given the brewer and the BOF rank of this beer. An excellent DIPA. One to enjoy. Those of the juicy hazy milkshake “IPA” crowd, well, you should just move along.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2022 16 oz can from Total Wine and More in Short Pump, VA The ale poured an almost clear amber color with a white frothy head and ample lacing. The aroma of citrus is huge with the pine resin as a backup. Huge flavors of citrus, pine resin, with grapefruit bitterness as a chaser. The ABV is noted but the hops help to disguise it at 9.4%. The ale has a medium body with soft-average carbonation.

Smooth without being overly bitter--just the right amount. Hoppy. Excellent palate. Opens up like a wine and gets better with air. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2021 West coast IPA is a rarity in NY nowadays.copper color, huge white head. Pine. dried apricots, caramel malt and grapefruit in the aroma. Sweet, malty start quickly changes to dry , hoppy bitterness that lingers for awhile. Such a classic DIPS. I am starting to miss west coast IPAs, so really enjoyed this one.

tfontana (5579) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 5, 2021
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2021 Can (2/16/21) pour. It's a hazy gold-amber (fine particulate mist) with nice, lazy sparkle, finger-width white fluffy foam head with good retention and beautiful rings of lacing. Aroma is strong lemon citrus and mango with lesser pine and a caramel malt backbone. Taste is strong citrus, pine and caramel malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth texture, average carbonation, mild alcohol warmth and finish as taste without too much bitterness (really 100 IBU?). Overall, this is about as quintessential an West Coast IIPA as you're going to find (hence the high ratings). I'm sure this sparked tons of imitators. I like the juicier turn things have taken but appreciate this.
