Kauai Island The Fonz IPaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Draft. I’ve read the recipe changes, but this version has a lovely burnt orange hue with outstanding clarity and a soap-bubble off-white head. The aroma and flavor are both very tropical, blending mango, apricot and pineapple. A little caramel sneaks into the nose; the flavor has added orange peel bitterness and just a hint of something herbal, like licorice. Not overly bitter -- the finish is fairly mild. Pillow-soft light body; gentle carbonation. A nice little IPA.

Kauai Island Pakala Porter
Draft. Deep mahogany hue with a light khaki head. The aroma’s packed with roasted peanuts, plus a little light roast coffee and toast. This is mostly replicated in the flavor, though not as clearly, with an added bit of dark chocolate and toast at the finish. Bitterness is pretty mild; carbonation is soft and fizzy; body is silky but light for a porter.

Kauai Island South Pacific Brown Ale
Draft. Scarlet-brown with great clarity and a dense khaki head. The aroma’s a smooth blend of smoked sausage, cocoa and caramel used sugar. The flavor is similar -- a mild blend of cola and smoky hot dogs. Light, watery body; mild carbonation and bitterness. Balanced finish. I enjoy the smokiness in this, but the beer itself is pretty insubstantial.

Kauai Island Cane Fire Red
Draft. A very pretty copper, the color of an old penny, with a fuzzy sand-colored head. Toffee-forward aroma, with subtle earthy hops and milk chocolate in the background. The flavor is fairly sweet up front, leading with caramel used sugar before Ritz crackers, earthy hops and very soft notes of lightly buttered toast move in. Smooth light body; mild CO2. Finished clean, with a fair amount of lingering hop bitterness.

Kauai Island NaPali Pale Ale
Draft. Gently hazed tangerine with a fluffy head of white. Nice hop blend in the aroma -- a little lime, a little orange, a little pineapple and mango. The tropical hops are even more pronounced in the flavor, where pineapple and grapefruit meld before a mild honey malt character and dry finish. Soft, light body; mild massaging CO2. Not bad at all.

Kauai Island Wai’ale’ale Ale
Draft. Dandelion-yellow with gentle haze and a Smalley, fizzy head of white. The aroma shows off a nice floral and citrusy hop character -- tangerine and lavender -- backed up by dry, grainy malt and a bit of wheat. Similar show in the flavor, with a finish that leads with fruit and finishes with citrusy and floral hops.

3.2
Kauai Island Lilikoi Ale
Draft. Pale golden hue with moderate haze and zero head. Passion fruit is a major flavor and aroma contributor, adding a zesty and sweet fruit flavor to a sharp grainy backdrop. Flavor is fairly light and crisp -- this would be a great beach beer. Bigger than average bitterness. Light body; high fizziness. Refreshing.

Kauai Island Leilani Light
Draft. Light honey-gold with good clarity but zero head. Mild apple fruitiness balanced by sharp grain and a bigger than average lingering bitterness. Better than your average light beer, but not by much.

Kauai Island South Pacific Brown Ale
Fairly large off-white head; dark brown, but with touches of orange, gold and red. Aromas are pretty much all malt - nutty flavors, molasses, bread. The hops are quite subdued. Body is medium; alcohol average; carbonation is just a bit on the lively side. Finish is average duration, moderately sweet and light to moderate in bitterness. Overall not a bad brown ale, but not remarkable either.

Kauai Island The Fonz IPaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
On tap at the brewery Hazy orange yellow color, very yeasty looking. White collar. Fruity nose. Lots of tropical and pine notes. Guava, passion fruit, orange, and lots of peel. Highly bitter and malty at the same time. Aspirin like bitterness, not really enjoyable. Tastes like the bottom of the keg. Gritty and harsh beer

Kauai Island Blonde Lager
Draft at the brewpub. Head is fully diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers grapefruit), with notes of pineapple juice, passionfruit. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Weird sourness as if fruit juice was added. Smells like it too. Bit dirty aftertaste. Not good.
