Cricket Hill Wit & Wild
Mostly clear golden coloured body with a thick, but very fast-dying just off-white head that fades quickly and leaves absolutely nothing up top. Aroma of coriander seed, curacao, light oranges and a good wheat kick with some soft yeast and breadiness that brings out a lot of dryness, in the nose. Light-bodied; Grassy and very herbal flavours at first with a crisp wheat and coriander seed note with a lot of pepper and floral qualities at the end with a smooth full lot range and curacao finish that brings out a hint of sweetness, but this really is about how dry it is throughout. Aftertaste shows the floral, grassy and especially coriander seed freshness here throughout with a crisp bite with some lightish bitterness with a dry pepper note at the finish and some very subdued sweetness, but a great balance throughout. Overall, a very nice, incredibly dry and crisp beer with a lot of floral, grassy and especially spicey notes with the curacao and coriander seed (as you'd expect for the style) playing a big part. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 18-December-2021 for US$2,59 sampled at my house here in Washington on 27-July-2022.

Can, from the brewery. Pours faintly cloudy lemon yellow with large foamy off-white head, faint citrus aroma, medium carbonation, mildly bitter citrus peel taste, thin body, long finish. Decent, but not too exciting considering all that hops.

Cricket Hill Blond Breakfast Beer
DATE: June 19, 2021... OCCASION: a second beer review on Father's Day eve--a good finish to the day... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip.... the tasting is delayed by its incredible froth, poured out in a ratio too great to sip immediately... it sits as an opaque, brooding amber orange body that supports a frothy white head whose resilience is impressive.... bright, yeast, pepper, banana, garden herbs, bubble gum, and hay... overall, a decent allure.... it sips smoothly, a bit grainy, and without fanfare--an easy drink for a summer night.... refreshing, with some accentuation at the teeth...its finish doesn't linger... bubble gum, banana, slight pepper, some toasted bread malts, honey, and some bitterness that makes this a good approximation of the classic Belgians... this is enjoyable and refreshing in its embracing the Belgian profile in an accessible form... I was looking for a beer to enjoy on the hotter days/nights, and this works in that setting--and throughout the summer too...

Cricket Hill Jersey Devil Imperial Red Ale
DATE: May 22, 2021... OCCASION: another beautiful night to celebrate Joey's birthday ends with another quality drink... GLASSWARE: Otto's dimpled mug... pours a dark red, mostly opaque body that supports a single-fingered off-white head whose bubbles froth to a lacy ring... intense pine and caramel erupt at the nose, with candied sugars and bread malts as well.... a vibrant, lively sip bubbles up, aggressively shaking the teeth with some heat in the mouth.... a medium-bodied draw, this finishes with a lingering sweetness that keeps... big malt impact, with caramel and toffee both competing for attention... sweet, bready, and yet resinous and bold... this tattoos the taste buds with its flavor profile, unleashing its weight in this most appreciated way...the citrus is sneaky but present... haven't had a CH brew in a while, but I m glad I had this one...

Cask at GBBF, Earl’s Court on 05/08/2009. Nice, zippy hop aroma and a good amount of bitterness. This was by far the largest amount of US beers I’d drunk in one sitting since being in North America, so maybe they shone a bit more by comparison?

Cricket Hill Fall Festivus
DATE: December 9, 2018... OCCASION: resting after a good and busy weekend... GLASSWARE: Stoudts pint... pours a feverish, copious amount of off-white head that clumps into an Elvis-like head atop a dark chestnut body alive with bubbling clusters.... the first impression is its malt-forward, bready and toasted, with earthy and light floral hops... the whole aroma is somewhat mellow, if not down-tuned.... this sips with a bold body, medium strength and substantial for an ESB--almost an Americanization of the style--with a worthwhile mouthfeel and a buttery finish... besides the toasted malts, butter, and flower, one can note tea, plum, grapefruit, and some uneven qualities... at 6.5%, this strong-arms the drinking experience with a heightened bitterness that requires some puckering... overall, I can see what Cricket Hill is going for, and it weds reasonably well with the season that was... the bitterness and muddled flavors drop this a bit, but the effect is close to a late fall pairing...

From the 650 ml. bottle compliments of JC Wattsrugger in trade. It pours a handsome looking amber tone with reddish hues when held to the light. Modest and short lasting off-white head. Penetrating aroma of sweet barley grains and barley malt, dark fruit, but a low alcohol content. The body is medium but smooth. I had hoped for bigger. Definite malt sweetness takes over the taste and the booze is actually rather subdued. But malts, malts, and more malts and a semi-lingering finish. Warming.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a small white head that ends in a ring. Light hoppy aroma, bitter and sweet, of citrus hops, sugar, malt, grass. Taste is crisp, starts with a bit of a hoppy bite, then picks up more yeast and grass notes. Ends a bit watery with light lingering bitterness. Very drinkable but too light.

DATE: February 3, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating a great showing at Phillipsburg's Quiz Bowl tournament... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... pours a dark amber body, lightly effervescent, and clusters of bubbles notch up and down the glass... the head retention flattens at a half-finger of off-white head that sends solar flares upward... presents as a nutty, lightly roasted aroma, fresh from a growler poured mid-afternoon today... caramel is notable, as is the toffee... a solid representation of the style... sips at a ridiculously easy rate, with a sweet and creamy mouthfeel that rewards the palate... the finish holds but doesn't overwhelm... nuts, toasted malts, light aromatic noble hops, and flowery hints--a righteous, agreeable, comfortable beer to eat/chill/watch TV with... a quality ESB, and possibly an entry pass to trying more Cricket Hill... and at $6 a grunt, a great buy at Liquor Fcatory...

From Sept 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe! It pours a cloudy orange with a 1 finger head of foam. Decent head retention and there's some lacing. The smell has notes of peach, yeast, wheat, a touch of banana. The taste is yeasty, has some peach, light banana, slightly spicy, a bit of citrus and some earthiness. Sounds interesting but the flavours don't work all that well together. Light bodied with a medium level of carbonation, it finishes earthy and then goes all watery. Not bad but not something I would drink again.

Cricket Hill East Coast Lager
From Aug 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe! It pours a yellow gold with about an inch of foam. It shrinks quickly to a fine broken layer and there's not much lacing. The smell has a good hoppy nose to it along with some grain and caramel malt sweetness. The taste has a good grainy taste to it along with slight caramel and a good grassy hop flavour. This is pretty tasty and most of the all malt lagers I've tasted have been flavourful, some more than others and I think this one falls on the upper end of the spectrum for the style. Mouthfeel is definitely medium here and I like it. Carbonation is on the lower end for the style. Again, I like it. It finishes slightly bitter, slightly grainy and what the heck. I like that. Bottom line: This is a nice Lager; Tasty, good mouthfeel, and quite drinkable. I'm very happy that I got a chance to try it as it is a well brewed product, imho. I'd drink it again. No problem.

Cricket Hill Colonel Blides Cask Ale
From Aug 2008 got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe! A cloudy orange coloured brew, there's close to a 1 finger head of foam that shrinks quickly leaving a couple of small islands and a ring around the glass. Lacing is minimal. The smell has good notes of caramel sweetness and citrus and grassy hoppiness. The taste starts off with that malty sweetness but is quickly overtaken by a big floral and fruity hop bitterness. The fruitiness I taste is apricot and it works pretty well here. A good medium mouthfeel with lightish carbonation, it finishes with more fruit, a slight bitterness and some earthy tones. This is pretty tasty and quite drinkable and seems to grow on me the more I sip. Give it a shot if you find it.

Cricket Hill American Ale
From Aug 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe! It pours a clear copper colour with a 1 finger head of foam. There's a little bit of lacing and the head retention is average. The smell has a nice mix of citrus hops and caramel malt with the hops being more noticeable. The taste is pretty hoppy. I get some citrus and some grass and the malt is rather subdued; just a slight sweetness and breadiness right before the finish. The mouthfeel is on the thin side and kind of slick, the carbonation is on the light side, and it finishes with a mild grassy bitterness. Well, everything flavourwise seems to be on the mild side but what's there is good and it sure is drinkable enough. I could put a couple away with ease. Pretty good stuff.

Was rather surprised by the subtleness of the bourbon in this one. Noticeable in nose more so than taste. Flavor leans heavily towards roasted malts with the bourbon just being a background accent flavor. Guess it could have been expected considering the abv. I’m sure lots of people will appreciate this beer but it’s not my idea of what of bba porter should be.
