3.9 Red Lodge Dually Double IPA Stovepipe can from a convenience store in Libby, MT. Aroma is floral, perfume, chalky candy. Taste has a hoppy bitterness that builds from nothing on the first sip to firm bitterness on the third sip. More than solid. Saturday, June 10, 2023

3.3 Red Lodge Octoberfest 2021 can from Brix Bottle Shop in Kalispell, MT. Pours a clear dark bronze color with a small beige head and good retention. Decent lacing. Malty aroma. Strong caramel malt flavor with a light bitterness in the finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. This can is past its prime, but still pretty good. I'd like to try it fresh. 3.6 Red Lodge Dog Pull Porter 12 oz. can from Brix Bottle Shop in Kalispell, MT. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head and good retention. Very little lacing. Light nutty aroma. The taste is dark malt and nutty too. Tastes more like a brown ale versus a porter. Subtle and mellow overall. Medium-light body. A little thin for a porter. Low carbonation and low bitterness. Very smooth and easy drinking. I like it, but I question the style. Wednesday, July 20, 2022

3.9 Red Lodge Busted Barrel Boom Chocaloca Sample during the "ElkMoose Me, But Why Is Your Glass MT?" event on 07/10/2020. Black pour with some brown around the edges and a medium tan head that recedes steadily to a wispy film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of bourbon, malt and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, roast malt and chocolate. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and chocolate aftertaste. Pretty good overall. Tuesday, November 10, 2020

2.7 Red Lodge Montandy Shandy Crisp, pure golden and straw yellow coloured body with a thinnish, pure white head. Aroma of very soft malts and sugars with a bigger hit of lemon juice and acidity with a funky yeast and bread quality, right behind. Light-bodied; Strong citrusey and lemony flavours dominate, of course, with a funky malt and grainy showing towards the end, but all very easy-drinking and still crisp with a lot of the lemon bitterness showing through. Aftertaste is crisp, showing a tiny bit of very light, artificial sugars and a bigger dose of lemons, all on top of a very soft maltiness. Aftertaste shows some more lemons, a light bitter and astringent quality and a herbal and dry biting flavour at the end that is a touch funky, perhaps from the yeast. Overall, a dry and crisp beer that shows a moderate amount of flavours for the style, but nothing overwhelmingly good or robust - but an easy-drinking beer that has some lemon flavours and some easy-going malts. Decent enough to sample, but not worth getting again, even in the middle of summer on a 90 degF plus day here in Montana! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Super One [grocery store] in Kalispell, Montana on 26-July-2020 for US$1,67 as a reward for driving the Going-To-The-Sun road in Glacier National Park on 27-July-2020. 3.6 Red Lodge Bent Nail IPA 12oz can during Montana wedding adventure. Pours a coppery color with good lacing and white head. Nose is pine and citrus. Taste has a healthy juicy hops quotient with a recognizable malt backbone. Not overly bitter or sweet...kind of plays it safe. I could see this one as a standard go to option if I was living in MT. 3.5 Red Lodge Busted Barrel Hunt For Red Oaktober Beer #13 of my #7000 Beer Celebration - 7 on either side of the milestone. Super hazy brown and amber coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of pungent oak and cedar woodsey notes along with a good malt punch and a touch of grain with nuts towards the end and a pleasant sweetness as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Relatively strong dose of malt and cedar with a good oak (no surprise there) flavour showing vanilla and cognac/bourbon elements alongside the yeast and malt with a relatively strong pungent kick from dry grasses towards the end. Aftertaste shows the punch of the oak and grain more than anything else with a large punch of yeast, complex wood and cedar elements and a very drying finish, but no real fruit or sweetness throughout. Overall, a nice beer that shows a decidedly woodsy, oak and dry flavour without much of the complexities from a sour or 'wild ale', but also a nice range for the style, which I don't feel like it belongs, although I'm a bit hard-pressed to say where else it fits. Nice to sample, especially during a 'special occassion'. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Vintage Sellers in Great Falls, Montana on 20-June-2016 for US$7,50 sampled at my house in Washington on 29-August-2018. Tuesday, October 16, 2018
