Power’s Ultra Smooth Lager
On tap at Beach House, Garden City. Pours clear golden amber w/white head that left rings of lace, light grainy aroma. That it's quite spicy up front is at odds with "Smooth" descriptor, fairly clean finish

Carlton Dry Juicy Mango
Can purchased from BWS and drank on 15 December 2023. Looks like a standard pale lager but this beers saving grace is that the mango flavour at least gives it a bit of sweetness and negates the blandness that usually comes with Carlton Dry.

330ml can into schooner. From BWS, Glen Innes. Crystal clear amber beer with a solid bubbly white head. Only the occasional bubble ascends.. Smell of, I don't know, washing up liquid? Weirdly sweet and industrial. Taste is sweet and plastic. Really really hard to drink.Wow, this hideous. Each mouthful actually gets worse. The horror, the horror.

330ml can into schooner. From BWS, Glen Innes. Crystal clear goden amber beer with a bubbly white head. Nose of lemon and malt, quite nice. Light carbonation. Taste is ALL lemon. No real beer characteristics until the finish. Reminds me of the shandy soft drinks you can buy in the UK.

My father in law just got back from his home in Tobago stating they just reduced the size of beer bottles to combat alcoholism - sounds like a tax grab!? Besides this just being a high gravity ferment, less watered down version of VB, I didn't feel less embarrassed purchasing it from my local bottlo'. They saw the joke and the fad of ridiculous 'stronger' versions of the like of Tooheys and Hahn reemerging for some wasteless reason. Anyway, onto the beer!
Into a tiny brandy snifter, chilled; coz that's all the beer I get!. Unknown why they went for a crown cap!? Not implying this one is to be cellared like an English Russian Imperial Stout? Honey gold body and bright with little head retention and little as far as carbonation. Aroma of regret and mourning; of rusty ol' Datsun car bodies, sweaty socks in a young man's room and bar towels, not cleaned for weeks. Stagnant, metallic with a hit of toasted corn, burnt toast and something chemical I'd use to clean pipes. On the palate it's 'VB', just as if they made a sauce reduction version; more concentrated. I had the option of a good fifty stouts on show, and I chose this!? Sweet and clammy. Artificially sweet; not something I can define. Seems well above 6.0% ABV. Like Skol, or Okocim Strong, but with a metallic taste reminiscent of its smaller, older brother. It was gone in two mouthfuls. Low in bitterness and freshness. Drabby, kind of bready with little hop or malt definition. Rank aftertaste. Pride of Ringwood playing its heady target. Nothing here to celebrate. And why the red label? Forgettable in history! Throwdown bottle from BWS, Glen Innes. Pale clear amber beer with thin white head, light carbonation. Light malt nose. Plasticine taste, sharp carbonation. Sweet boozy finish. Better than VB, not a great endorsement but there it is.

I understand the decision to name it after a nerve gas and to package it in grenades (the local name for 250ml stubbies) but why put in Melbourne Bitter colours? Surely hi viz would have been the go. Ooh, crown seal not a twist top. Clear golden amber with a swiftly vanishing white head. Familiar but perhaps slightly more intense aroma of caramel, grain and weeds. A bit more sweet presence in the malt side of things but - swings and roundabouts- that just emphasises how quickly it flabbily drops away at the end. But it’s not dreadful, just not for me.

Concentrating the flavour of mass produced Aussie lager swill into a smaller bottle with higher alc/vol makes this mass produced aussie lager swill pretty good (for a lager) having some bitterness in a cute baby sized bottle with an appropriate red-flag red label (rather than the traditional green VB label) as well as an another warning about the dangers of alcohol to your baby just in case the baby sized bottle makes it attractive to babies or pregnant women.

Can. 2pac day, but alas, he rated Carlton Premium Dry. Was that the same beer? Who can fucken say. Gold with a collapsing white head. Cheap, grainy aroma. Edging up on watery. Sweetish and bland. Cleanish with very slight weedy bitterness that does that odd trick of being harsh despite there not being much of it.

Carlton Sungazer Fruity Beer (Raspberry)
300ml can into glass. A free gift from BWS, Glen Innes. So no great expectations here. Pours a pale amber with zero head, high carbonation and a smell of raspberries that fills the room. Taste is slightly beer-like, zingy light carbonation. Finish is sweet raspberry with a lingering fruity sourness. One is definitely enough. Too much sweetness, not enough body.
