3.6 Sonoma Cider Name is “The Sickle Pineapple Cider”. On tap at hop and vine in San Jose. High clarity golden almost amber color. Quite high acidity for a pineapple cider. Not bad. Kind of vinous. Wednesday, April 12, 2023

2.3 Sonoma Cider The Anvil Ok, not looking forward to bourbon spoiling my cider but wtf? At least its in a bottle and its not even a screw top either! Nose is a little alarming, bad cider with hints of bourbon whisky, how rude! Clear pale with some decent visible co2 putting on an eye display. Taste is cider and its sweet and it does have a tingle of whiskey in there, just barely. Yes, also had a good sharp edge amount of co2 on the palate. Now, in the middle, I think I'm picking up some soap in the taste, a little bit of a turn off. And yes, that odd nose comes in and bite-chah. A little more rude than most sonaomas. Not quite as good as I was expecting. Bar soapy palate continues to the end. Disappointing, but hey, what can you expect from another alky product's effect on beer? Want bourbon? Go drink it, leave my ciders alone. Sunday, December 30, 2018

2.3 Sonoma Cider The Anvil This is awful. Not sure what else to say. Tastes like apples gone bad. Drain pour. Friday, January 19, 2018

2.8 Sonoma Cider The Crowbar Translucent gold. Light body. Lots of vegetal pepper in the nose and some heat. Lime and apple together are a bit weird. Thought I'd like this better, but it was pretty meh. Tuesday, January 9, 2018

2.9 Sonoma Cider The Washboard Bottle from some random 7-11 at the Boston waterfront. Ommegang Anniversary glass. Brown, still, clear, like old Chardonnay stuck on the back shelf. Smell is two parts sweet Mott's apple juice, one part grandma's candy dish(with a burnt menthol inconspicuously forgotten at the bottom). Caramel apple, root beer Dum Dum lollipops, & to a lesser extent, Vick's vapor rub. Taste is cooked apples & butter. Slippery, oily, still texture. Faint tarragon-like, herbal presence. Oxidation. Only mildly sweet. Moderate acidity. No playable tartness. This is a bit curious, in a good way. The feel is all wrong though. Monday, October 9, 2017

1.4 Sonoma Pear Cider Not very flavorful, almost like a sparking water with pear aroma. Is not repulsive but not to my taste. Very dry. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Friday, October 6, 2017

2.1 Sonoma Cider The Anvil Smell is like a strong wine with wood...taste is mostly dry... very lightly sweet...decent complexity...meh...maybe a bit better with time....had at art bar with Megan pre Harry Potter trivia at flying saucer Tuesday, September 26, 2017

2 Sonoma Cider The Anvil 12oz Newcastle-esque shaped bottle from a 7-11 in downtown Boston. Poured into a rounded pint glass. Big, balloon-y, quick hitting, mellow white head. Clear, light copper, spirited body. Smell is strong in corn... Something like cotton candy. Something vaguely leathery. Butterscotch. Sharp apples. Bananas Foster. Taste is thankfully a little cleaner. Boozy butterscotch & bourbon likeness upfront, with sharp, determined apples bringing up the rear. Buttery... Something tastes fake, but I can't quite tell. So-so carbonation just makes it even more difficult. Ugh. Monday, September 18, 2017

3.1 Sonoma Cider The Hatchet Bottle, been putting this off because I’ve been avoiding ciders lately. Is it a twist off? No blast, hurts my hand. OK, got bottle opener, the other side of a church key. Pop, not twist, audible release of pressure. Mild apple like aroma. Initially I think its too sweet, hurts my lager loven taste buds n stomach cells. However, seems OK after the initial sugary shock. Mild with a little bit of artificial sweetness but then I realize it aint. Yes, sweet er is the word, almost like its been added, but not. Could have been a little dryer. Good overall brew experience. Not bad. Go figger. Sunday, June 18, 2017

2.6 Sonoma Cider The Anvil 355ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow-gold with a thin, short lived, white head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of apples, bourbon and oak. Sweet flavour of apples, caramel, vanilla and oak with light bourbon in a dry finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Just ok, I thought this would be better. 3.7 Sonoma Cider The Washboard Bottle as pictured. Did not have high hopes for this one, was expecting a king of sweet cream soda thing. Oddly when I pop the lid it has an aroma similar to beer. Then, in the glass the aroma goes a little more towards dry apple. Looks like a pale lager as well. Taste is much better than expected, not a sweet sugar pop like so many other flavored ciders, actually quite enjoyable. The flavorings on top of the cider is balanced and well done. Also, many times the vanilla is overdone, this is not, just enough in there to let you know its there, like a ghost. Yes, friendly and pretty dry, good overall brew experience. Probably one of the better domestic examples of old real country euro cider out there. Tuesday, May 9, 2017

3.3 Sonoma Cider The Hatchet Bottle from a 7-11 in South Boston. Crazy, foamy pour. Settles clear & active, just like a cold glass of Heineken... Smells of sweet eating apples & mellow hand soap; Mott’s. A backdrop of alkaline acidity. Foamy mouthfeel. Sugary/powdery texture. Fermented nice & dry. Faintly peachy? Lacking in flavor, but I felt it was well made. Monday, May 8, 2017

3 Sonoma Cider The Pitchfork Bottle shared by DrSilverworm from notes. Pours a clear yellow golden color with no head. The aroma and flavor have sweet apple cider character, pears, flat carb, is it different than most ciders, a little but it’s still a cider and doesn’t excite me much. Monday, April 17, 2017

3.4 Sonoma Cider The Pitchfork Bottle from some random 7-11 near the waterfront south Boston proper. Rounded pint glass. Clear, dark amber body. Quick to settle, but lingering whispy head. Smells of vanilla, green apples, wax, & sharply sweet supermarket pears. Slick, low carbonated apple juice. Hint of vanilla. Fair amount of pear skin drying things out. Lots of eating pear flavor. Nothing amazing, but it doesn’t taste too artificial, & these days that’s a win. Wednesday, March 29, 2017

3.4 Sonoma Cider The Wimble 12 oz can, thanks Poisoneddwarf- Pours clear cider golden with a ring of foam. Aroma is apples, floral, pretty standard but nothing off putting. The taste is apples, floral, sweet and dry simultaneously, salty. Not bad, more than just apple juice going on here. Thursday, March 16, 2017

3.2 Sonoma Cider The Wimble 12 oz can from a four pack bought at Grocery Outlet. The numbers printed on the bottom of the can are 060116, so I don’t know if that’s a born on date or an expiration. Aroma is apples, rhubarb, musty. Pours crystal clear gold-copper with a one finger collapsing white head; lots of weird chunks of something floating around. Taste is tart and dry with flavors of the aroma. Just a hint of salt. Somewhat thin and watery. Not bad, but the date and the floaties are kind of ruining it for me. I would have given it a higher score if not for those things. Monday, January 2, 2017

3 Sonoma Cider The Washboard Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours gold with an actual white head. Didn’t last long, but hardly ever see a head on cider. Aroma of cider and a little touch of sarsaparilla. Not getting root beer tho. Med minus body. Flavor is vanilla and cider. There is that rootbeer sort of finish, but just barely. The sarsaparilla is hardly there for me. It is rather dry. Wednesday, December 14, 2016

3.6 Sonoma Cider The Pulley Hazy yellow with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is licorice, anise, and undertone of apples. Taste is anise and licorce. Reminds me of absinthe with applrs. Thursday, November 24, 2016

3 Sonoma Cider The Pulley Apple, oregano, savory, anise nose, hints of marinara sauce. Clear yellow. Savory apple, semi-dry, with a subdued licorice finish. Medium body, easy carbonation. I really love licorice, but I don’t think it works. Moreover, I suspect an anise addition might be to mask a brewing flaw. Friday, November 18, 2016

3.1 Sonoma Cider The Anvil Bomber from Tiffany’s- Nice golden color with reddish hints. Not much fizz. Leathery mustiness before a hint of appley cider notes. Sour, vinegary initial flavor with the spike of bourbon at the end. Not too pleasing, oily feel to the mouth. Thursday, November 10, 2016

2.5 Sonoma Cider The Hatchet Bomber from Tiffany’s- Not much head. Light golden color. Notes of sweet apple, vanilla, and some funk at the end in the nose. I think it might be infected. It has some of those vinegary sour taste alongside of apples sweetness. Is it supposed to be that way? Tuesday, November 1, 2016

3.6 Sonoma Cider The Washboard Apple, buttery chardonnay nose. Clear amber. fine floaties. Apple, vanilla creme. Medium body, moderate carbonation. I didn’t get a lot of sarsparilla, but that would be weird in cider if it was too evident. The vanilla notes are quite nice. It’s a bit like french apple pie. Sunday, October 16, 2016

3.8 Sonoma Cider The Crowbar Can... Pours clear and yellow with golden highlights and no head. The aroma is citric and malic, featuring limes and sour apples. I'm also getting a burning sensation in my nose from the habeneros. Medium-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers sour apples with a hint of lime, and then mild chili pepper warmth in the finish. Wednesday, October 12, 2016
