Rickards Radler Grapefruit
Appearance: nearly opaque straw with a short, short-lived white head, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: sweet grapefruit juice, faint grainy malt. (5/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate tart. (4/10) Light body, moderate carbonation, short duration sweet and tart finish. (2/5) Well, I went into this with absolutely zero expectations, and it exceeded that, so… well done? It’s not terrible for what it is. In fact, I think it’s a bit better than the Rickard’s White I think it’s based upon, possibly for the same reason they usually serve the White with a slice of orange: the citrus fills in (masks?) the plain jane macro character. Really too sweet, though I guess if it weren’t you’d actually be able to taste the beer, and nobody wants that. (10/20)

625ml Bottle from the LCBO. Medium amber with just a slight haze and a small off white head that quickly reduces to a sheet. Nose is light sweet toffee and cereal with some honey, grass, green apple, light citrus and a hint of pepper. Flavour is light+sweet toffee with an equivalent citrus and grass bitterness. Medium oily body with average carbonation and a finish with quickly fading bitterness but some residual sweetness. 7/3+/6/3+/13+

Clearish red pour. Has almost no aroma but shows some hops and light malts. It is a weird tasting beer with some exotic fruity hoppy notes mixed with some honey or something. Watery as well. I could not classify this as an IPA or as a RED IPA. strange.

473ml can. Pours a clear ruby/caramel with a bubbly head that fades away quickly. Aroma smells exactly like root beer. Taste is nearly exactly like root beer. Very slight alcohol at the end. Medium body and carbonation. Syrupy in the mouth just like a Cola or pop. Overall exactly what you would expect: rootbeer with alcohol.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA
473ml can. Pours a huge frothy beige head and has a clear light amber appearance. Average carbonation. Aromas of earthy hops and toasty malts. Flavours are mostly of the earthy hop variety, just very watered down. The finish is metallic like, somewhat rusty. Not a good mix of hops used here. Sort of like a lime flavour in the finish as well. The one tall can was quite sufficient. Not something I will likely have again.

(Rating #6904)

Pours medium amber honey with a decent lasting tall off white/creamy head. Slightly haze. Sweet nose of tame english hops, and light cereal malts. Mild citrus on the palate. Grassy. Carbonation is fine. Some minty notes, riding on top of caramel and toasted malts. Palate is the weakest point. I do find myself questioning whether Molson bothered to source era-accurate ingredients. Although, by Molson’s standards; this is excellent. It’s probably a refined version of the recipe... and I’m sure they have a different translation of what "limited edition" means. Overall a very tame beer. I guess the most interesting part of the narrative is that the went from "THIS ^" to what ever the hell they’re doing now. And, that’s the upsetting part. The world beer scene would be a much better place had beer stayed like this than having to change into the dumpy stuff the macros are making these days. I’ll give it higher marks if I ever finish building my DeLorean.

Hey kids, it’s Canadian Macro Bingo time! Fizzy gold pour? check. Fast dissipating head? yes. Faint note of corn and/or sulfur in the nose? check. Corny/grassy/vegetal taste? present. Watery mouthfeel with a cheap finish? Bingo! So bland that its actually more offensive than its other cheapo counterparts.

Can. This is probably the most sub-par beer any of the macros brew. It has a huge fluffy head that lasts the duration, so that’s ok. Some decent lacing too. But there is no aroma. And there is absolutely zero presence of hops. None. Zip. What really sinks this is the presence of corn sweetener. This stuff is about 98% corn water. Just another reason why Kanada sucks. Can’t get a decent gun or a decent beer up there.

Fizzy yellow pour, head lasts 2 seconds longer than its bretheren. Grainy, light sulphur in the aroma - odd. More on the sweet side, very light corn, grainy. Light body and higher carbonation. For a macro beer you could do far worse I guess.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of yeast and leather. Pours a cloudy copper with white head. Taste is light to medium bitter. Medium bodied, sticky texture, with a long finish. Has some interesting aspects, but it seems like a half hearted effort at trying to get in on the craft beer market.

Where and how: bottle, 341 ml
Aroma malty, mild citrus, hefty with caramel sugars, hint of orange peel.
Appearance :
Top: medium sized creamy, tanned, sparse rings.
Base: cloudy amber
Palate : medium sized mid with thinner walls, semi dry with milder finish.
Taste: fruity bitterness, quiet sweet but not cloying.
Other notes refreshing stronger amber ale

Where and how: TBS, can 473 3.0%
Aroma mild with pleasant floral hop feel, worty candy like sweetness behind, still not bad.
Appearance :
Top: medium plus rocky top, short lived. Sparse lace.
Base: clear, amber gold.
Palate : watery, with slightly silky sides. Average-milder carbonation. Average shorter finish.
Taste: as in aroma , mild floral citrusy hop notes with thin candy sugar elements. Low malty character.
Other notes expected less than this. It actually decently refreshing. Yes its simple, and has annoying candy caramel sweetness in attempt to add substance to it. But for 3% beer not bad.

473 twist off alluminum bottle haphazardly drunken semi warm in a dinky hotel room. Lack of clear cup this one pours with a large head and appears to be amber/gold. Aroma is corn and acetone. My first coors malt liquor. Flavor is sweet with a hint of nuttiness and autolyzed yeast. Now a big brewery could produce a beer with so many off-flavors is a mystery. Drain pour.

625ml bottle: Aroma of malt and cereal, light notes of nuts. Not complex, it’s light. It has a neck that lasts a little longer than the traditional ales from Molson, it’s leigh beige in color and lightly thick, and dissipates slower than usual for Molson. It has a nice light copper robe going on orange. Hazier than the clear and tasteless products we are used to from them. Light bitter/sweet test, almost a little salty. At 6.8% it feels heavier. Alcool presence is felt stronger than you would expect. Slick texture, average to soft carbonation. The finish felt short to me, almost abrupt. Overall: they call it an historic pale ale. It sure feel closer to what they brewed in 1908, and by far the best product from this brewery. I would consider baking bread with this one. Not to drink regularly. Overall a very nice try from them.

[Bottle (341ml)] Sigh, I can’t believe I never rated this. Oh well, let’s do this. Pours a deep orange-amber with an average size lasting frothy off-white head and minimal lacing. Aroma is mild at first, with caramel malt, bread, grain, "bottle", sugary fruit and vegetal notes -- like I said, starts mild but gets worse as it opens up, it was a 5 and then became a 3. Watery flavour of caramel and fruit at first followed by bread and grain -- it’s quite dull. Average bodied. Rate it, then dump it.

Rickards Red Session Lager
My Bottom Line:
Maple-like caramel create a sweetish profile, as metallic edges send this lager plummeting into a dryish finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the russet.
-Carbonation is prickly and the mouthfeel is lean.
-Drinkability is high but you don’t feel like going back once you’re finished with your glass.
-The metallic/mineral got on my nerves quickly.

Bottle.

This lager poured a clear yellow colour with a ginger ale looking carbonation. Scents include apples. Smells nothing more than apple juice/cider. First swig was not bad.

Brownish, unfiltered lightly steeped tea water colour with a buoyant thick off white head. Easy drinking ale that is simplistic but rich with savory and sweet aromas. Malty lingering flavour with a long lasting mild fruity green apple residue. At 6.8% alc./vol it is a satisfying middle of the road North American pale ale.

341 mL Bottle. Deep gold body with a 1-finger foamy head settling but leaving blotchy lace on the sides of the glass. Sweet malts and crystal malts dominate in the nose, a hint of caramel sweet, and earthy-resiny-grassy hops. Flavor! This has to be the brightest star in the Molson constellation of thin, swilly, and stinky beers. I am impressed as I try to dissect this somewhat complex brew. Pale and crystal malts say a loud "hello", nicely paired with not too bitter and not too imposing hops that speak up in the aftertaste followed by a nice robust beery linger. The 6.8 octane also comes through with a warmth of its own. So stretch out by the fireplace and enjoy! My message to the folks at Molson: Hang on to this one. This is your Crown Jewel. I’ll pick up some more on my way to camp.

Pours a clean deeper amber colour with a foamy, slightly creamy, light-beige head, good stay and soapy lacing. Malty nose at first pour with some rusty notes that come out. Then, all is balanced with caramel, bread, nuts and some fruitiness. The taste is mild, as a session, but with some decent malts, also on the fruity side with hints of caramel. Nothing too sweet, and a pretty decent malty session lager.
