Molson Breweries (MolsonCoors) Reviews

Molson John H.R. Molson & Bros 1908 3.2
341ml bottle pours a golden orange color with a finger and a half of white head that has decent retention and leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is light citrus and grass with some caramel and grainy notes. Taste is a light citrus and grass hop bitterness with a pleasant malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with surprisingly nice carbonation. Hard to believe this is a Molson product as it is surprisingly good. Recommended.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3.1
My Bottom Line:
Dank hops plunge into biscuits and caramel in this dry and easygoing Session IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the translucent dark copper. This coppery colour is completely useless considering the type of aroma and flavor they are aiming for.
-This one actually smells like hops! For a Molson product, this is surprising.
-The hop character is nearly exclusively aromatic. The flavor profile is almost devoid of hoppiness, which is a disappointment.
-Mosaic and Sorachi Ace?!? They must not have been in fine form since there is barely any fruitiness to be found in the finished beer.
-Hops are mostly earthy and resinous throughout.

Molson John H.R. Molson & Bros 1908 4
The BS bottle. Most hilariously blatant millenial/hipster pandering I think I’ve ever seen but whatever. The beer is actually shockingly good for Molson. I kid you not, I actually taste something. Stay with me, I swear I’m not making this up. It’s somewhat cloudy and orange, with a huge nice head, as if real hops might be present. The aroma won’t even make you gag! Simple caramalts and pleasant generic hops. Flavour is even better with some satisfying bready malts and minor hop bite in the finish. No aftertaste of failure and desperation like most other Molson products. You don’t even have to drink this out by an Arby’s dumpster to appreciate it, it’s top-notch edible brew from a producer known for something quite beside that. 8/10 would be pandered to again for accidentally being of an arbitrary age bracket.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 1.7
I’m only trying this because of Manitoba’s poor craft beer selection right now. I’ve tried everything available at the moment...except for this one. So, here goes. Pours a light copper body, with initially very fizzy head (like soda) that quickly fades to nothing, and no lacing. Aroma has a bit of sweet bubblegum, some slight slight bit of tropical fruit, and resin, also a bit weirdly tart. Taste is very watery. No discernible bitterness. Admittedly I didn’t try it next to a regular Canadian 67, but there isn’t much more flavour here than that. In fact, it’s offputtingly metallic and flavourless. Aroma wise, it’s slightly better than I expected, but flavour-wise, it’s worse. i thought it might be like on e of those Keith’s hop series, but those have some element of flavour. this does not. Again, the only thing I can think of as to why they made this is not, as some suggest, to capture some part of the craft beer market (this beer will not do that), nor as a gateway beverage to some craft beers they might own, but rather to turn people off of craft beer. "If this is what an IPA tastes like, i’m going to stay away from IPAs." I honestly came into this thinking maybe it’ll get a 3.0 or so. I even poured it into a Drekker glass (a brewery I respect), just so my brain would be tricked into thinking it was good. But no this was much much worse than I had imagined. By far the worst IPA I have ever had. I say that without any sense of hyperbole. The Rickards Red IPA (also made by Molson) was much much better. I guess it’s important to try a truly awful beer like this once in a while so you remember why you’re into the good stuff...and how much better even middling craft beers are than swill like this. This is near drain pour.

Rickards Lederhosen 3.9
bottle.. Poured clear medium amber with a big creamy beige head. Sweet malt aroma with vanilla. Light-medium body, typical prickly carbonation, a bit sticky dry finish. Flavour of biscuity malts, sweet toffee followed by bitter herbal hops with some peppery spice.

Rickards Red IPA 3.6
can. Poured clear red-amber with an off-white head. Fresh hopped aroma. Light-medium body, active carbonation, finishes crisp and a bit sticky. Caramel malt flavour, earthy with resiny hops.

Rickards Red IPA 3.4
Can. Pours a clear copper with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus and red berries. Taste is much the same; caramel and berries, some citrus zest and bitterness in the finish. A pretty decent beer, but not an IPA. Call it an amber ale and this would be pretty good.

Rickards Red 3
Forced to pick something...this was the thing. Consummation: Sweet, malty, skunk lite! Adjunct: Way 2 sweet, way too skunky.

Molson OV 2.7
341ml brown bottle. Pours out a light yellow colour, crystal clear. White foam settles quickly and leaves some thin lacing. Some grains and bready aromas. Taste has thin bready malts, a little sweetness with a light finishing hop note. Old school swillin’.

Rickards Red IPA 3.4
Pours a clean, deep amber colour, almost copper with a frothy light-beige head that stays a while and leaves creamy lacing. Beautiful fresh hop aromas with the grass and grapefruit notes. Mild grainy and caramel hints in the background. Found the taste to be more bitter from the bottle, but in a glass, it finishes a little shorter leaving a grainy aftertaste. The mouthfeel is a little thin with some decent dryness. Quite a nice red IPA, very good for a macro.

Rickards Radler Grapefruit 3

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 2.4

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3
341ml brown bottle. Pours out clear and honey coloured. White head fades fast and leaves a little thin ring. Fruity nose, pleasantly surprised. Taste - quite dry, mild tropical and citrus hops. Minerally finish, not much bitterness anywhere. Light bodied. Drinkable, a little weak style-wise but good considering the source.

Molson Canadian 1.8
Bottle purchased at Dan Murphy’s Wagga. Like all mass produced Australian beer very little taste, aroma and palate. The VB of Canada, and that is not a good thing. My Canadian cousins in Saskatchewan would not be happy their barley was put to use in this brew.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3.7

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 2.8
Pours a super clear copper with a small white head that surprisingly stays for a while and leave some lacing. Nose is of grassy hops, fruits, light caramel. Worlds away from the regular Molson Canadian (67) I’m sure. Taste is fruity as well and lightly bitter. Some caramel. More tropical fruits, better than the Alexander Keith’s attempts. This is a weak session IPA but still a commendable effort, I just wish it was more intense. Body is light, carbonation moderately high and mouthfeel is quite certainly watery. Not too shabby, yo.

Molson Canadian 1.9
16 oz. can pours a pale golden color with disappearing white head and practically no lacing. Aroma is grainy: mostly wheat and corn. Taste is slightly sweet without much of any finish. Body is light with average carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. There’s nothing offensive here, but nothing unique enough to justify exporting it. An OK pale lager which came to me as a gift from my neighbor across the hall.

Rickards Red 2.7
Dark bronze, clear with white head that dosnt last. Hint of malt in the aroma. Sweet, caramel with mild bitterness in the aftertaste.

Molson Dry Cold Shots 1.6

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 2.4

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3.2

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3
Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a foamy warm cap that stays not bad for a low alcohol content. No lacing is left though. The nose is surprisingly nice with the fresh hops smell. The taste is where it shows being a low calorie beer, a Molson Canadian 67 brew. The hops are much lighter than the aromas give out to be. Still, they do taste like real hops, and a quite good for whatever is left. Light grain does eventually come out in the aftertaste. Hints of watery caramel. Does what it is made to be. Low calories and session brew.

Rickards Red IPA 2.8
Pours a red copper color with a medium white head. Nose of sweet malts, earthy hops, floral hops. tiny bit of caramel and toffee but mostly hops. Mouth is where it kind of loses me. Flat sweetness to start with then it gets a metallic hoppy ending. medium carbonation and medium body. Not too good.

Molson Ice 1.9
(can - 16 oz) Clear gold with a fizzy white head. Corn and grass aroma. Flavor is overly sweet corn and stale grass and hops. It is what it is. [12/2/15]

Rickards Shandy 1.9
Aromas of lemony ginger. Taste of faint sweet lemon. Would rather drink as a lemon soda than a beer.

Molson Old Style Pilsner 2.6

Molson Canadian 1.9
I tried to finish this. I really did. But about two thirds through I had enough. Very little aroma and aside from a bit of grainy malt all I got was aluminum. At least Export was drinkable.

Rickards Blonde 2.5
[My bottle (341ml) shared with HogTownHarry] Pours a clear gold with a small diminishing frothy white head. No lacing. Mild and dull aroma of grain, caramel malt and a bit of sugar. Flavour’s the same, caramel malt and grain. Light bitter finish. Average bodied. A bunch of ’meh’.

Molson Canadian 1.7
Big can at amelia arena, tampa. Clear golden color, white head. Aroma is malty. Malty taste, hint of hops. Normal watery lager.

Molson Carling Black Label Supreme 3.9
This is the beer that I want in the fridge at the end of a brutal summer bike ride or killer training run. Yes, it’s cheap and the taste takes a bit of getting used to, but the pain is gone soon. Warning, not more than 2 at a sitting. At less than $10/6 pack it’s a good deal if you stretch it over a few days.
Saturday, January 02, 2016

Molson Canadian 1.1
Medium head, clear, gold. Nice lacing. Malty, not pleasant aroma. Watery, malty, low bitterness. High carbonated.

Molson Canadian 1.5
355ml bottle into glass. Faint sweet nose, touch of grain. Clear golden beer with thin film on top. Low carbonation. Sweet mineral water taste and sweet grainy finish. Insipid macro.

Molson Canadian 1.2
Had a few in the fridge, brought over by friends, left from the holidays! Decided to try and use them up here and there, as I could tolerate. I decided this should not be in vain and I’d post a rating. Since I had been using my trappist glass, I figured it might enhance the experience. Pours amber/yellow, more effervescence than taste really. Slight malt.grain finish. Very one-dimensional and dull.... meh

Rickards Lederhosen 2.9
473ml can puts a lightly hazed amber-orange lager in the mug with a respectable 3 finger frothy white cap that hangs in there. Color correct for style, head shows either proper gristed malt protein content or the use of polypropylene glycol alginate - head seems a bit artifical. Aroma is surprisingly fresh and bready with just a hint of woody hops and just a whisp of what could be diacetyl,- at any rate it should not be there. Substantial body for a commercial brew, big bready malts in the front with a near balance of (Northern brewer?) hops - thick mouth feel - rich malty-yeasty finish - not dry at all - not bad but off style, this should have a dry finish and needs some more time in the conditioning tanks - as it is now it is more like a rich bodies amber Franconian lager - very young and undeveloped, yeast attenuation could be better. Not bad but not good either.

Rickards Red IPA 3
Bottle, Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Medium amber, light than head. Pine resin aroma, some sweet malt. Milder flavour than the aroma would have suggested, a bit watery. Balanced, some bright hops on the finish.

Molson Canadian 2
0.5 draft. Clear gold, color and a small, white head. Aroma of pale malts and not much else. Malty taste, dms. Light body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Finish is short and tasteless. Overall a very standard, commercial, pale lager.

Molson Carling Black Label Dry 2.2
(Rating #6606)

Rickards Dark 2.8
Can I brought back home a few months back. Pours brown with a finger of off-white head that leaves a few spots of lacing. Aroma is light roasted malts and mild chocolate. Taste is light roasty bitterness with faint hop bitterness and enough malty sweetness to balance things out a bit. This is definitely one of the better macro brews from Molson’s.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3.1
473 ml can from TBS, served cold in a tulip glass. Clear copper with a fluffy off-white head. Tropical fruits, citrus, a touch of cat pee, a little sweet, caramel malt, not you bad. Medium body, fairly full but soft carbonation, a little thin on the finish. Tropical fruitiness, lighter citrus, a touch of cat pee, deep bready malt; dry with limited bitterness and a lighter tropical fruit and bread crust finish. Well I’ll be damned, this is decent.
Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Rickards Red 2.4
Bottle. Copper red with large spongy beige head, faint malt aroma, slightly sweet caramel taste, medium carbonation, abrupt finish. Not a very inspiring beer.
Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Rickards Blonde 2.7
Bottle. Clear rich yellow with medium sized off-white foamy head that dissipates fast, faint bready malt aroma, high carbonation, light hops bitterness, abrupt finish. Average pilsener.

Molson Carling Beer 1.3
Pours a clear golden with a lot of tiny bubbles that keep on streaming and fuel a thin white head that doesn’t leave much lacing. Poured in a "hopside down" glass I was just given as a gift #onlyproperglassware. Nose is of corn and really faint proper cereals. Light sulfur. Taste is dry and as tasty as a glass of water... OK, OK, there is some light corn and grass. Light bitterness. Body is light and carbonation aggressive, watery. Meh.

Molson Canadian 67 Session IPA 3.1
355ml thin can from the beer store. amber with a quick white head, no retention, minimal carb. nice hoppy aroma! the flavour is again quite hoppy. bine dry. other then the ugly pour this is actually a pretty decent session IPA.

Rickards Red IPA 3.3

Molson Ice 3.4
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at a dive bar in Willow grove, PA. The appearance is a clear, light golden color with a tiny white head. The flavor is BMC but with a heavy bite. This is the least flavorful Molson product I have had (and I have had Molson XXX). Not horrible, but there are better Molson products out there.

Carling Black Label 2.8
Shared at the 10th Annual Epic & Unusual Beer Tasting, 11/29/15. Glad to tick this whale! Clear golden, large fizzy white head, poor retention. Aroma of grassy hops and mild pale malt. The taste is pale malt and grassy hops. Thin-medium bodied.
Wednesday, December 09, 2015

Rickards Radler Grapefruit 2.8
Pours almost clear yellow, soda type head. Aroma of beer and grapefruit juice tastes like grapefruit flavoured soda and very light lager. Suppose it’s alright for a fruit beer.
Tuesday, December 08, 2015

Rickards Red IPA 3.2
Pours dark reddish brown with a foamy off white top. Aroma is caramel malts and citrus hops. Taste is your basic Rickards Red, caramel malts, a little sickly sweet with a small hop backing. But add in citrus and earthy hop and this kicks up. This has always been my guilty pleasure and if I’m in a chain restaurant, this is usually what I get. This has a much better hop profile, even if it’s just mainly bitterness, would have liked more flavouring but baby steps.
