3.4 COAST ALTerior Motive Says it's out of production, but apparently not anymore!! First rating on this site since 2016...very smooth and malty beer with no carbonation, light bitterness but doesn't really seem from hops, a little peppery ... straightforward, solid flavor of medium malt that starts sweet then gets peppery ...good .. had at old mill brewpub for lunch... 3.6 COAST Rye Knot Brown Ale Can courtesy of Bacchus66. Thanks. Pours a medium dark brown color with a khaki colored head. The aroma is dark cocoa powder and well roasted grains. The taste follows the nose with more cocoa and more roasted grains. Also present in the taste is some bitter walnuts. Palate body is medium. Overall: decent brown. Paired well with some scharfe maxx alpine cheese. Saturday, January 15, 2022

3.3 COAST Dead Arm Pale Ale Can courtesy of Bacchus66. Thanks. Translucent gold pour with a big foamy white head. The aroma is mild with sweetened grains and some indistinct citrus. The taste was grains, straw and bitter aluminum. Bitterness was rather on the high side, like someone went heavy handed with magnum hops. Palate was medium-light. Finished short and dry. Overall: meh, SNPA has nothing to worry. However, I do appreciate the SC state tick. Wednesday, January 12, 2022

3.7 COAST 32/50 Kölsch 12 oz can. Pours a clear golden color and capped by a thick off white layer of foam that slowly settles to a thin film and coats the glass in lacing. The aroma shows notes of light citrus, toasted bread, some grains, and earthy hay over a biscuit malt base with notes from the lager yeast. The flavor follows with the light citrus and grains melding nicely with the toasted bread and biscuit malts with some lingering yeast and earthy hops on the back end. Medium bodied with average carbonation that leads to a clean and crisp biscuit and yeasty finish. Really solid and easy drinking kolsch here. True to style and tasty stuff. Sunday, July 25, 2021

3.9 COAST Dead Arm Pale Ale Golden-yellow, slightly hazy color topped by a 1/2 inch white head, receding fairly quickly, leaving rows and strings of lacing. Moderate and mild citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Substatial body, smooth, especially for the style, soft. Fresh, crisp citrus hops flavor, with tropical fruits - pineapple and other tropical flavors - in the mix. Solid malts provide a very good balance, contributing caramel and bread. Mildly bitter in the middle and finish. Very tasty, and complex enough to be interesting. The mild bitterness, along with the tropical flavors, linger into the aftertaste. Overall, an very tasty, enjoyable APA. Well done. Monday, October 21, 2019

3.7 COAST 32/50 Kölsch Aroma is light, lemon, slight bready malts. Color is darkish yellow with a 1/3 inch white head that recedes quickly to a thin cap and ring, leaving some strings of lace on the glass. A slight haze. Lots of carbonation. Taste is bready with lemon, a little honey-like sweetness, little to no bittering. Fairly true to style. Light on the tongue, but enough going on with the interplay between the malts and hops to keep it interesting. Excellent flavor. Feel is thin, as expected for the style. Finish has a little bittering in the finish and aftertaste, with the pleasant malt body and lemon flavor lingering on the tongue. A very nicely done Kölsch. Monday, October 21, 2019

3.3 COAST The Boy King Double IPA 12oz can. Poured a clear copper color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was some malt, some light grain. Alcohol was a lot lighter than expected, not nearly as hoppy as I had hoped. Reminded me a bit of an old-school DIPA, more malt than hop. Tuesday, August 27, 2019

3.7 COAST Bulls Bay Oyster Stout 12oz can. Poured a totally opaque, black color, smooth motor oil. Light tan head. Aroma was roasted chocolate. Creamy, smooth chocolate, light leafy humidor notes. Decent. Tuesday, August 27, 2019

3.9 COAST Pilsner More evidence of COAST being pretty damn good with their lager game. Offers up grass, toasted grain, mild apple-lemon notes, and a firm floral/woody bitterness on the back end. Hints of white bread and straw in the fade. Very nice pint. Wednesday, August 7, 2019

4.2 COAST Bulls Bay Oyster Stout Delicious, heavy on the anise and raisin and unsweetened chocolate, with a strong java bitterness on the back end and a subtle but firm briny undertone in the fade. Defines an underappreciated style. More, please. Monday, August 5, 2019

4 COAST Helles Lager About as spot-on as an American Helles lager can get. Lovely toasted biscuit and grain notes meet mild lemon tones and a crisp, Noble bitterness. Bready and easy-drinking, with a creamy texture begging you to take another sip. Holy hell. I figured this pint would be nice, but I wasn't expecting something this freakin' awesome. Monday, July 22, 2019

3.8 COAST Hefeweizen Very good hefeweizen, offering up the classic banana-clove goodness laced with lemon, vanilla, and white bread. Subtle grainy sweetness turns fruity and yeasty on the back end. Spicy finish leaves a lingering grassiness on the palate. Only real drawback is in the appearance; looks a tad flat compared to a traditional fluffy, boisterous hefe. Better than it scores. 4.1 COAST Goon Juice Can says it clocks in at 6.3% ABV. Suprisingly herbal and spicy, with a bright, minty front followed by lemon, lime, tangerine, and grass, with a floral bitterness mixed with earth and a subtle honey sweet streak. Not at all what I was expecting, but absolutely delicious. Wednesday, July 17, 2019

3.5 COAST Blackbeerd Imperial Stout 12 oz can from the Wall of Beer ($2.99; canning date of Dec. 2017) served in a Belgian snifter. Look: Opaque, essentially black body; thin. rather weak tan head despite an aggressive pour; limited lacing. Dark bread, booze, dark dried fruits and faint roasted nuts in the aroma. The flavor largely follows, with more emphasis on dark bread, coffee and roasted nut flavors and less dried fruit. Very good bitter/sweet balance. High ABV is partially hidden. Smooth, full body with appropriate light carbonation. Tuesday, June 25, 2019
