Erzbierschof’s Bar Winterthur

No Longer In Business

The original Erzbierschof expansion away from its first location in Köniz. A cosy, tiny beer bar within walking distance of the Winterthur train station. There is a limited amount of seating in various distinct parts of the bar, all of which share a homey feel. The bottle selection is large, also including some more beginner-friendly European microbrewed beers. In summer, there is some seating outside, in Winter there is a wood fire indoors. All of the above in combination with the knowledgeable and very friendly bar staff make this one of my favorite beer bars.

Of the two Erzbierschof bars, this one is easier to find (a direct 5 minutes walk from the Winterthur main station). The ambiance is very nice, everything is a bit cosier than in Liebefeld, but the bar is hardly ever packed, so no worries there. Just as in Liebefeld, there are always 15 beers on tap, with ever-changing kegs, you can try everything before you decide which one you take, and there’s plenty (4 fridges and 4 shelves) of bottles available, which you can also take home. Prices are fair (especially the tap prices!) and the guidance by the staff is superb. Oh, and if you’re hungry, you can order a decent Pizza which is made by a restaurant nearby and brought to your table for the same prices, which is awesome. I am always coming back.

Schön, dass Erzbierschof nun auch in dieser Region präsent ist, dazu noch so zentral (mit öV z.B. ab Zürich Bellevue oder HB in weniger als 30 Min. erreichbar). Angesichts des grossen und wechselnden Angebots lohnen sich regelmässige Besuche.

Visited with Neur0 on a foggy December evening. We both lurked in the back of the bar in a cosy area constructed to mingle. Very nice interior with an interplay of light and shadow- plenty of character. Clown Shoes Bleacorn Unidragon caught our attention from the fridge selection, wonderfully presented right at the back of the place. Attentive service. Sparsely crowded around 5 or 6 pm (mostly of the hipster variety).

(on Tour with Embrouille) Nice little bar in Winterthur, just 5 min by feet from the trainstation. And oh my god they have an open chimney, like in the middle of the bar. And the waitress was like helpfull and stuff. And the selection, oh my gosh, like Brobdingnagian.

The best beer bar in Switzerland has been cloned and placed in the new beer mecca of the country: Winterthur. 15 beers on tap and about 300 bottles. Don’t expect many commercial stuffs here: you’ll get only rare, exclusive and extreme beers ! Don’t miss this place.
