“We came here on 25.8.2018. Great pub but bad beer. Brewery looks great from the outside, but was closed when we came. Extremely well decorated pub with a huge luster, old local beer signs and brewery pictures from the area and a comfortable bar. Food was good, ate the vegetable tower. We had an American Pale Ale which was sour and a poor Pils. Such a shame they cannot brew better beers (they must have a cleaning problem with their pipes). This pub would deserve much better beers.“

“Neat restaurant and brewery; the beers were all decent. They have a nice steakhouse menu. The food was all delicious although it came out cold, which was a shame because everything tasted really great. The crabcake entree was delicious, though rather small. We had to ask for bread - it doesn't come out unless you ask. Overall an enjoyable experience aside from the food being cold. They did give us a delicious dessert for free to make up for it, so I can't really complain. Overall, well worth a visit.“

“Driving east in PA and saw a billboard on the side of the highway, so we stopped. The restaurant has a very German farmhouse meets warm wooden restaurant feel to it. We came in and sat down and waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, someone came from the back to wait on us, despite it being Monday afternoon and three other people in the place with us. The traditional beers were fantastic - the kolsch in particular. There was some confusion between the brewer and the waitress as to what beer was on cask, but the beers were good. It was a quick in-and-out stop, but definitely a cool spot.“

“Stopped here after a google search while stuck on a work trip in the central PA wasteland. Boy was I glad I did. You walk in and see the crazy antique decorations and sidle up to the bar. Homemade cheese ? Absolutely! More beers on tap you can shake a stick at, and the bartender will let you sample anything you’d like. Then the food. Oh my god the FOOD. The Jaegerschnitzel was mind blowing. I loved this place, only wish it was alot closer than 3 hours away. Will definitely be back.“

“Had a great time here. People were great. Had a nice german meal that was fantastic. They do a really nice brewery tour. The dinner menu looks really great as well. A few hours from my house or id be going all time. They have a lot of great session style beers- kolsch, heller, german pils...and it’s best at the bar stool. Service was excellent and people were really nice.“

“It sure is a nice problem to have, when you have trouble deciding which is better, the food or the craft beer. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Or as you can ask here at Stoudt’s, which came first, the great food or the wonderful craft beer? Actually the history of Stoudt’s is that the owner Ed wanted good, high quality beer to match the fine food he was serving. He actually went out and learned the art of micro brewing - years ago, before it became fashionable. Ed Stoudt is a nationally known pioneer in craft brewing in the Eastern United States. This is a well established, quality micro brewery (there is actually a small brewery attached to the restaurant). the American Pale Ale is in my opinion, one of the three best American Pale Ale’s brewed in America today. The "Fat Dog Stout" is also notable here. My wife and I had the incredibly good brisket sandwich, which went so well with the "beer sampler" that we each had. A beer sampler is four 6 oz glasses of beer that you get to pick from the beer menu, for $8 per sampler. Our total bill came to $38.26 for the two of us. There are some very nice, pricier entrees on the menu. I consider this a "destination restaurant", one for a special event or a romantic evening - which would be worth driving over 50 miles to travel to. There is a great family owned antique outlet right next door. After dinner, my wife and I picked up PA Route #897 right down the road, and made the short twenty minute trip through the country to the "Middle Creek" bird sanctuary to see the snow geese and the Canada geese. “

“Great beer in a very original brewpub/restaurant setting...in the PA Durch area. The food is great and the selection is always enjoyable. Easy to access off of Rt 222 and worth a detour.“

“I love the look of an old German tavern. It gave me ideas for the German tavern I’m putting in my basement. Excellent selection of beer. Food is above average. A couple employees could use charm lessons.“

“An odd Victorian style interior with an old, crowded bar area. The seafood chef is the first thing you see as you walk into this place. The food was pretty good but over-priced. The beers were very good, and there were several available in bottles to go. Our server drew the straw on a group table part way through, so our service declined thereafter.“

“Unique brewpub that’s part of a larger "Stoudts" complex that fits right in with the numerous antique stores that surround it. Inside, the place looked like it hadn’t been updated since it opened a few decades ago. Small bar for the size of the place, but plenty of tables. Featured a lot of house beers and most that we sampled were really good. Also had a few special release bottles for sale. Food was great with most of the menu favoring beef entrees. Little on the pricy side, but the beers and food were worth the cost.“

“Make a day of this place .. show up early and check out the antique mall attached. Lots of nice antique furniture and friendly dealers .... They have their own fresh bread and cheese ..... We went in October on a Sunday and had a blast at the beer garden ... Live german music and the Stoudt family even got into the party and when the beer lines got long they even helped serve beers ..... Ed Sr. gave us a tour of the brewery and the food was decent german ..... The restaurant is beautiful inside and my next trip back I will definitely eat there .... staff was friendly and the prices were decent $3.50-$4.75 a pint .... Make a day of your trip there and check the website for events“

“This place looks like your grandmother’s house, if she was Victorian lady with a thing for political memorabilia. It’s very striking and not at all what you expect from a brewpub or a restaurant but it somehow works. This is a place where it’s impossible to be a stranger for very long. I got their an hour before closing so the vibe was laid-back. The beers I had were all outstanding, especially the Kolsch they had on cask. It was certainly one of the best hamburgers I’ve had in a while. And since I ate in the bar area I was 6 feet from the cooler so I could take a sixer of the hefe with me. I just wished the place was open later than 10. I’ll definitely be back.“

“Took a trip here that one of our distributors paid for. We had lunch, took a tour of the brewery and bakery, and drank a ton of beer they had on tap. All the employees were very kind and helpful, and even our tour guide walked around with a beer in his hand as he explained things! Many of the beers they had on draft I’ve never tried before but I enjoyed most, especially their pumpkin offering. If it wasn’t so far I would definitely go back many times.“

“This is a sprawling place, with a pub on one side and a restaurant on the other. Both menus are available on the pub side. The food was OK, not great, as was the customer service. I loved the ambience... the room I was in was filled with Presidental campaign memorabilia... right up my alley. There were other rooms with other decor, and overall the place seemed warm and cozy. The beers are good, but they’re a bit pricy... $4.50 for 12 ounce pours and the bottles to go were also a bit pricy. Overall a good stop, but even though this was the place I was most looking forward to on my vacation, it fell a little bit short.“

“Enjoyable place, stopped by for lunch on the way back from the airport. Had the veal sausage (full plate, and everything was delicious), a Lemon Kolsch (interesting) and a Smooth Hoperator (very good!). Service (at the bar) was friendly and good, especially considering how busy he was for much of the time. Menu seems pricey, but the food’s quite good. Will be coming back with wife and/or friends.“

“My Dad has been bugging me to go here with him for some time, and this year, for my birthday, he finally took me. A quaint little old inn-like feel to the restaurant. A fairly decent selection of food and my filet mignon was pretty good. A bit pricey for the food. Beerwise, I had the Double IPA (which was great on draft), the Tripel and the Fat Dog. They had but a couple of beers not available widely in bottles (a maibock...and something else, can’t remember), but did have a couple special release bottles available in their gift shop (I got an Old Abominable and a Gezundheit to go). I had a great time. Nice place, worth the hour plus drive to get there.“

“We had a great experience at Stoudt’s! Talked to Ed Stoudt and took the brewery tour. Ed is excited about his 10,000 barrel brewery and it shows! I loved most of the beers I tried even though I am not a huge fan of maltier beers. I filled my growler with my favorite American Pale Ale! Dinner was nice and had that German flair. It was a great overall experience and I was certainly trying to accomplish three things: brewery tour, growler refill, great dinner with great beers.“

“Went with my GF for lunch during the week. Had 2 samplers, good Fat Dog Stout and single IPA (light with good hops). Food was really good (cheese plate, burger, steak sandwich) and went well with the beer. Neat building and the server was nice (although maybe not too knowledgeable about the beers). Bought a mixed six pack of stout and APA on the way out. Would go again if I’m ever in the area.“

“Pretty much got ignored for the first 20 minutes in the place. Finally got a seat at the bar and still got ignored for a while. The beer was pretty good but there really wasn’t that much for selection. Very bad pours on the beers. Grabbed a mixed 6 pack to go. Not sure I would go out of my way to go back.“

“Stopped by on a recent Saturday night for dinner with friends. Smallish pub area, but a large dining area affords visits by large groups. 6 or so common taps, a couple seasonals; unfortunately, the beer engine was kicked! I knew what to expect from the beers before I visited. If you aren’t familiar, make sure you try the IPA and Fat Dog. Food menu was dominated by choice cuts of meat. Burger was excellent! Great table service, knowledgable and quick. Place had more of a restaurant feel, when I was looking for a laid back brewpub (Selins Grove, or even Magnolia). Worth a stop, not far from the PA Turnpike.“

“I have very mixed feelings about Stoudts brewery. I was there a little early for the tour and walked into the antique market. Entirely overwhelming and really out-of-place at the brewery (although necessary because according to the owner he’s not making money on the beer). Finally found my way out of the madness and made my way to the bar, where service was fast and friendly. Then, time for the tour, given by owner, Ed Stoudt. Not so much of a tour, but a 40 minute lecture on why you should not buy American national brand beers, especially anything with the word "light" in the title. While I completely agree, I thought I was going to get a tour of the brewery and learn what goes on back there. Still, Ed Stoudt is far from the worst person to spend an hour with. He was a really entertaining tour guide. My biggest complaint - no samples! How am I going to know what to buy to bring home with me?? I stayed after the tour for lunch... the brewpub is pretty interesting and the food is fairly“

“On the way back from Capone’s myself and fellow Knight AFI96 stopped at Stoudt’s for a brew. We walked into the Oktoberfest hall / Beer garden, there was a small party going on there so we were escorted into the old fashion pub. The bar was full, but we did find a seat ordered our dunkelweizen and we were on our way. The staff was pretty friendly, nice old decor, and good food. Also there is a cool little German village right outside of the brewery. However, i must tell you something very funny. As we were leaving someone approached the car and asked if we wanted to come in and crash a baby shower........lol. I think this look-alike tranny was hitting on my friend. :)“

“stopped by on beer tour, 08/17/08. Had a fat dog imperial stout, then tried a sampler. Fat dog was excellent, all the other 6 beers were well made. Took brewery tour hosted by Ed Stoudt, but it was OK in spite of that. Did not eat there (except pretzels), friendly staff and patrons, nice decor, would visit again.“

“Went to this place for a beer festival in August, ’06. Set up a la Oktoberfest in Germany, lots of tables, brats, sauerkraut, etc. People were friendly enough, good beer selection, bread was pretty killer. The outside area is great for bands and beer under tents. Great fun.“

“Love the old world-German theme of Stoudts Brewery and restaurant. I was visiting here since I was in my teens going to the beer festivals with my family even before they started the brewing side of it as I remember. Good food, beer selection is great and just so fresh straight from the brewery. The bread baked fresh at the brewery is awesome! Service can be tedious, we have experienced lousy service here several times due to one thing or another. If your visiting the area it’s worth a stop, antique shopping everywhere.“

“First the good, this is a really beautiful dining room. Red and gold painted tin ceiling. Lots of nice stained glass, cut mirrors, and a stunning restored car out in the entryway. The food is great, slightly upscale German pub fare, most of it including beer and it was deemed one of the favourite meals ever of my parents-in-law, neither of whom are beer drinkers at all. Now the bad... terrible service. Really, terrible. We got there on a busy day (mother’s day) so perhaps some confusion was inevitable, but rather than actually talk to us, they just ran around avoiding our eyecontact and our questions. I can’t say that I wouldn’t go back, but the people here need to learn how to treat people. Very unprofessional, IMO.“

“Overall, I enjoyed Stoudt’s, but it was nothing to write home about. There are two parts of the restaurant, one is more of a bar food type joint, the other is really fancy, pricey. We sat in the bar food section. The food was pretty good, the wings are good and the prices were not outrageous in this part of the restarurant. The other side is prime rib and is really expensive. They have a solid lineup of beers that are all good. This place is a little gem in this area. Never got to check out the rest of the complex. I would definately go back.“

“Nice place, good service, and they were willing to sell us some beer memorabilia that wasn’t necessarily for sale. For PA and away from the ocean, they had an odd selection of shellfish on the menu (this was June ’07ish.) Good selection of beer and had a nice bar-type area as well. We were actually on a brewery tour, got caught in a traffic jam on the PA Turnpike and found this place by accident. Great placewish there was something like that where I lived.“

“Let me qualify this by saying that I am not a steak connoisseur, but I do know what I like, and Stoudts makes the best steak I’ve ever had (I’ve been to Capital Grille and Ruth Chris...if that helps). The food is EXCELLENT, albeit a bit over-priced. The atmosphere is upscale and more formal. The beer is really quite good. I think their Tripe is one of them most under-rated beers of that style, and, of course, Fat Dog is always great.“

“Stopped here for some beers and the tour. Have been restaraunt before and enjoyed the food as well. But the tour, you have to try to get out to Stoudts for the tour if you live in the area. They don’t give you any free beer, but Ed Stoudt is quite a character and makes for a very lively tour. He encouraged us throughout the tour to buy American beer, gave us a history lesson on corn in beer, let us know that 4 to 5 beers a day is pretty much moderation and good for us. Good time.“

“Great service, great beers. Only had a bowl of soup, which was excellant. The bar area is nice, but the decor, which is supposed to be Victorian....well....kind of reminds of of "Early Cathouse". They now have a featured ale "on cask", something unique to this area. On the night I was there, the cask ale was the Scarlet Lady ESB - fantastic! If there is a negative to the beer, it’s that I only saw standard pint glasses used for all styles of beer, and the same style of glass was used for 12oz servings of all styles also. I know, picky, picky.“

“We had a hard time figuring out that it was the brewpub we were entering, easier to understand signs would be nice, but we guessed it must be it because it was in the same building as the brewery. 10 beers on draft, including seasonal (also out of season) and the good stuff as Fat Dog. I find the decoration a miss: a mixture of beutiful and ugly: beutiful tiles in the cealing and an ugly stone floor, and I don’t get the car in the lobby. The service is nice.“

“First rating as a place, but have been here a few times before, mostly as a stop for grabbing some fresh brew. An interesting decor in the restaurant with themed rooms. The men’s room is noteworthy, as is Ed Stoudts car in the lobby. On this visit, my primary rave is the Fat Dog and the Double, which was notably better at the source. Also, any steak selection here is fantastic, albeit a bit pricy.“

“Would’ve been a perfect rating were it not for the abyssmal service. Full selection on tap, & friendly enough crowd. Don’t know if they were just under-staffed that day or not, but we stood around for ~20mins waiting for a table, then sat waiting for a server for another ~20mins (beer-less, no less. Yes, beer-less). Menu was impressive, though, & the food selection was way more than I expected to find. Definitely stop by if you’re a fan of their brews.“

“Very unique place. Walked around browsing antiques for a while. Found our way to the restaurant and had a nice lunch. Sat in a cozy booth. Had a bowl of spicy sausage soup and a steak sandwich, both very good. Tons of antiques everywhere, lots of old beer memorabilia. Apparently just missed out on the microbrew fest, as there were still signs hanging where all the microbrewers stands were located.“

“Great food and INCREDIBLE beer. They have many selections and it looks like it’s being distributed to several states (including Michigan). Older building that does not look like a beer place, but it’s neat. Food is good, but not cheap. Nice steak and raw bar. Go for the beers, they’re worthwhile.“

“Odd atmosphere for a beer place; more upscale, classy. Selection was good, I’m pretty sure they offered every beer they currently had available. The best part though was the brewery tour by Ed Stoudt: he’s a little crazy, but passionate about his beer, and that’s all that matters.“

“Beatiful place in a bit of a odd location. Real cool beer ambiance. Tons of old bottles and even an old ortliebs tray. Nice staff. Understanding when we moved from the regular menu to the pub, my girlfriend didn’t find anythign she wanted on the steakhouse menu but enjoyed a good burger in the ub whil I had a pleasant beef stroganoff. Service in pub understandably not on the same level of attentiveness as the pub, but still, just ok, not particularly friendly. Good atmosphere, good beers, will go back and give it another shot, plus, I was too buzzed already from the appalaichan brewpub to try much on tap here.“

“Stopped here for lunch on my way back from PA Dutch. The place mimics a German biergarden in appearance and there is a decent selection of beer. There’s also a gigantic antique mall attached to this place. The food was alright albeit a bit overpriced and the service staff at both the bar and restaurant were exceedingly rude. You could tell they didn’t want to be there. This place is basically a tourist trap. I won’t be back.“

“Ambience-wise this place is exceedingly cool. At least the actual bar/restaurant is cool. It appears to be part of a strange giant brewery/restaurant/pub/flea market/banquet hall/bakery/whatever complex that doesn’t quite know what the hell it wants to be.

[ EDIT: It seems there’s actually a subdivision of townhomes on the premises too.Check out this site. I can’t decide if this is creepy or if it’s a model community -- after all, shouldn’t every neighborhood have its own bakery, brewery, pub, chophouse, antique flea market, et cetera? Only thing missing is the candlestick maker. I’m sure he’ll arrive shortly. ]

Anyway, back to the brewpub. Old-school up-market German style restaurant/bar area. A 30s-vintage Packard greets your arrival in the foyer. Nice collection of breweriana lines the walls. Service was decent, food was passable but underwelming (though I should note I only ordered pub grub and nothing from their pricey dinner menu), and beers were very good.“
