“Fairly standard brewpub vibe in downtown Aspen. Definitely lacks the extravagance of most of Aspen, which is nice. Pizza was nice. Beer was fine. Not a destination brewery or anything, but there's not much else in Aspen.“

“Looks like they moved, cuz that picture looks nothing like the place I visited. A pretty good mix of beers on tap, and the service is helpful and happy. Outdoor seating was filled up but indoors is nicely lit in the midday. I'd definitely be back when I return to Aspen“

“Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Wasn’t terribly busy (August). About 6 of their beers on tap and a couple of bombers available. One bomber was a collaboration with Casey Brewing. Didn’t have a lot of time. Would visit again.“

“Visited right after noon on a Sunday, I was the first visitor of the day. The entrance is shared with the Over Easy cafe (follow the stairs to the second floor). When visited, there were 6 Aspen beers on (including 10th Mtn Imp Stout and 10th Mtn Barrel Aged) plus a homemade root beer. In addition to samples and pints, they also offer growlers, bottles and cans to go. Service was prompt, though not really friendly (I’ll give the guy a break, he was busy opening the place, and I didn’t bother to engage). I can imagine this place gets jammed apres ski and on weekend nights. I enjoyed the Aspen beers, this is certainly worth hitting if you are in Aspen.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Visited for lunch on a Wednesday. Cool old bar with a narrow bar up front, and restaurant seating in the back. About 6 or so craft beers on, including Telluride and Aspen brewing. Food is really tasty, and affordable by downtown Aspen standards. Classic Aspen bar, not really a beer destination. Similar to J-Bar, well worth a visit, though certainly not solely for beer reasons.

58 = ★½ (Local place tickers only)

“Visited midday on a Wednesday. Nice selection of wine, liquor and beer. Featured some harder to get beers, as well as a fair number of Colorado beers. I was happy to see Alesmith XPA and IPA here. Service was friendly, prices were standard Aspen. Certainly the best beer selection in Aspen proper.

“Visited early evening on a Friday. Located in the famous Jerome Hotel. This is the casual bar / restaurant at the front of the hotel. The J Bar is an Aspen classic, and well worth a visit. However, the craft beer selection here was more or less what every other place in town has and not really worth a visit in and of itself. This rating is for the J Bar as a beer destination, again, its worth a visit regardless.

“Visited apres ski on a Saturday. Located at the base of Aspen Highlands. 12 or so craft beers on draft (Prost, Stone, Upslope, Aspen, Odell, Lagunitas, etc) and 20 or so more in can / bottle. The crowd is typical post skiing drinkers, happy energetic crowd. Service was quick, and $5 craft pints were a pretty solid value on Mountain. During my trip to Aspen, this was the best draft lineup I saw. Pizza by the slice was tasty. Overall, great place to grab a beer.

“A must-stop for its history and ambiance, but lacking in good beer selection.“

“Liquor store tucked into kind of an indoor mall. The beer selection wasn’t huge but there were several nice offerings that had been sold out in Denver for quite a while. Lots of Uncle Jacobs and Momi Hiwa were available as was six bottles of Pliny. The Pliny was three months old, so I guess those rich yuppies aren’t into beer nerd stuff.

“Their tasting room is located at 304 E Hopkins Ave, Aspen, Colorado. They had ten of the their beers on tap with a few others in sixers and bombers to-go. Between my brother and I, we had four of their beers and all of them were good. It’s a small space so quite the slopes a little early to get a seat. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. A must-visit if you’re in Aspen for some good beer.“

“These guys have done a great job carving a niche for themselves in this high dollar town. They had some hassles to overcome when opening but now they are a staple, and last I heard expanding. A great hole to drink away your snowboarding pains or relive your glorious rides. Has a nice downhome feel that is certainly hard to find in Aspen. Definitely not uptight or pretentious. The beers are a little pricey but hey...it is still Aspen. You never know who you are sitting next to here...could be anyone. Can get crowded but an expansion should take care of that. Nice bartenders, good service.“

“Stopped in after hiking the Government Trail from Snowmass. Tried the Red, IPA and Pilsner; all fresh and reasonably priced. The place wasn’t very busy and chatted with the bartender and a girl from Texas while watching Le Tour. Outside second floor seating offers spectacular views. My only complaint was it seemed a bit rundown. They’ll be canning soon in the business park across from the airport so hopefully they can freshen it up.“

“LOVE this place. Every time I get to Aspen I am able to take my dog in sit and have a brew while visiting my brother in-law. The dog friendly alone makes it a true diamond in the rough when it comes to the Aspen elite scene. Never had a bad brew and servers are always friendly and close by :).“

“Kinda neat brewery to hit in Aspen. You can get a sampler tray that looks like a ski! The beers aren’t too shabby. The place is tiny and you may have to put up with Aspen snobs while there.

“I hang out here often while i am in aspen because they are the only brewery in town, but also due to the fact that they brew some good beers. Duncan, Rory and Brad (owners) are great guys and very willing to chat about their beers. It is a very small and cozy place where the beer is brewed right next to where you sit down and enjoy it.Visiting this place is a must if you are staying in the Aspen/Snowmass area.“

“Good group of guys, trying to make it in a very difficult place. They turn out some pretty good beers, the head brewer is from the pacific northwest so he’s big on the hops. Stop by and talk to them, they’re always there and the brewhouse is open to the tasting room.“

“Brewery. 1 block behind the Jerome tucked away. Small place with nice atmosphere. Bar seats about 8 with a few tables by the windows. Generally have 6 taps. Owners are knowledgable and enjoyed talking about their beer. Definitely worth a stop when in town. A value for Aspen.“

“Cool Atmosphere on the ground level of the Jerome. Nice patio in the summer. Cool bar with unique menu. Their sweet potato fries are excellent. Beer menu is pretty standard. Cigar bar next door too. Great location and historic to the town.“

“The J-Bar has been around for over 100 years and they are a great old bar to try when in town. The bar has some special drinks and they have been featured on Rachel Ray and are awesome. The Crud was a great drink the beer was just the normal stuff nothing to fancy. Great wait staff and the bartenders knew a few drinks. This is a must stop to get out and rub elbows with the rich and sometimes famous. Can be a tad spendy.“

“A nice place to stop after a long day of hiking. We had a brew the beer was some great local Colordao brews. We did not eat food but they did have a nice happy hour. Looks to be a great place for a good party after the long day or playing in the mountians.“

“A nice place to visit and eat after a long hike or a great day of skiing. The food is good the bar is old and the beer is flowing. The brews are not too sophistacated but there is some good stuff. The staff is all young kids and they can care less as they all do. You know dude. I would go back again.“
