70 /100 Coeur de Lion (Bar) 17 NORTHUMBERLAND PLACE Lovely little pub in the lanes area of Bath, picked out by its sign as you go along the lane, in amongst bars and restaurants. Currently being run by Abbey Ales, it was very busy on my visit this time with food being very popular. I had to find a place on the top floor, seating is at a bit of a premium here. Well worth looking in. |
42 /100 Garrick’s Head (Bar) 7-8 ST. JOHNS PLACE This is rather a grand building in the centre of Tourist Bath for whom it mainly caters. More restaurant than pub, you sort of get herded as you enter, not sure they want people that just want to drink, but I persisted anyway. There were 3 hand pumps in operation on my visit, one of which is a beer badged for the pub from Stonehenge. I've done it now, leaving this one for the tourists in future. |
72 /100 Grapes, Bath (Bar) 14 WESTGATE STREET Convenient location within the centre of Bath, with a wooden seating arrangement on the street out front. Has a worn old pub feel inside, with the year 1792 incorporated into the pub logo. Seems to have a sizeable gin and wine selection. Beer taps have draft Weihenstephaner, Kettlesmith and other local breweries, while the ciders are devoted to Honey & Midford, Ilford and Bristol Cider Company. Bar girl eager to offer suggestions unprompted. We got a couple of halves and sat out front. Worth a look. |
58 /100 Stable (Restaurant) 16 GEORGE STREET I think this is the last of the Stable bars we hadn't yet visited. Was a bit of an in-out visit.. intended to stop but nothing really of interest cider-wise. The Stable chain used to have a great, varied selection years ago but the last few years have seen them slim the range to safe crowd-pleasers, same producers, same ciders unchanged for some time with two boring draft beer options. Sadly, it was the case here. Ambience is fine, modern place with a good location in Bath. If there was an interesting bottle or can in the fridge I probably would've stayed. |
80 /100 7 BLADUD BUILDINGS American-inspired cider place, larger than expected once you head in with a nice outdoor seating area at the back. Has a studenty vibe with a pizza menu and sports games being shown on TVs dotted about. There are four of their own ciders on draft with a wall of 12 box ciders. We got a couple of flights and sat outside, though it was actually so hot we came back in and made use of the AC. The ciders were quite decent and natural, quite acidic with a scrumpy feel. Expected them to taste clean, simplistic and back-sweetened. It was quiet on our visit, but I expect it gets quite busy weekends. |
78 /100 Kingsmead Street Bottle (Bar) 2 KINGSMEAD STREET, BATH Nice little shop that centrally located. Several taps, growler fills, and super helpful. Being from Canada, I don't know a thing about your local brewers, and the staff stepped in and made some great suggestions. Thanks! |

66 /100 Brewdog Bath (Bar) ST LAWRENCE STREET Visited 7/4/2022. Was just a quick visit on our last evening in Bath. Modern place close to train station. Beer range was average for a BrewDog. It was very busy. Decent vibe. |
72 /100 Star Inn (Abbey Ales) (Bar) 23 VINEYARDS Visited 5/4/2022. First time for some years. Hadn’t changed a bit. Still a super heritage pub. 5 ales on offer including the mainstays of Bass and Abbey Ales Bath Bellringer. Do like this pub though don’t expect a dozen ticks here, just plenty of character and characters. |
76 /100 Kingsmead Street Bottle (Bar) 2 KINGSMEAD STREET, BATH Visited 5/4/2022. Small place, on the edge of central Bath close to JDW’s and Bath Brew House. Coming up to 1 year old. 10 taps and maybe 100 cans/bottles. Good service. Good cheeseboards. |
74 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST Visited 5/4/2022. 7 of their own beers available on this visit, in flights, 4 cask and 3 on tap. 5 new to RateBeer. Smattering of other beers available. For a Tuesday lunchtime visit it was quite busy. Food appeared popular. Service was very friendly. Good music playing. Cask beers were okay, but highlight was the enigma hop IPA on tap. Enjoyable visit, definitely one to come to if in Bath. And looking at Cheeseboard’s rating from Feb 2020 they seem to have used Covid downtime to really spruce the place up. |
70 /100 Independent Spirit (Beer Store) 7 TERRACE WALK Visited 4/4/2022. Very interesting selection of non-UK bottled beer. Mostly modern UK canned selection much of which isn’t refrigerated. Very limited on local ales. Service was ok. Prices pretty good. |
58 /100 Brewdog Bath (Bar) ST LAWRENCE STREET Newly opened at the time of my visit, within sight of the railway station and just a couple of minutes walk. It is a smarter version of the Brewdog chain, on 2 floors, the lower has a barn like feel, the upper is more comfortable. The bar set up is typical Brewdog but the staff were very new and seemingly untrained, which is odd with this chain. Good choices of beers, but it was a struggle to get what I wanted. |
68 /100 Grapes, Bath (Bar) 14 WESTGATE STREET May '24 rating = 68 . Much improved on both beer and atmosphere fronts from my last visit.
Jan '22 rating = 44. Large, single roomed pub in the shopping centre of Bath. Away from the tourist hotspots this appeared to be a locals and shoppers retreat pub. Restricted on the beer front on my visit, quite quiet and echoing. |
74 /100 Kingsmead Street Bottle (Bar) 2 KINGSMEAD STREET, BATH Took a little while to locate this but get to Kingsmead Square and head towards the flats and it's on your left. It's a small. friendly bottle shop cum bar, more bar really. There are tables and chairs to the front but it was a bit cold for that on the day. The bar is directly in front as you enter the single room, there are 10 beers on tap, the seating inside is in the bay windows and to the right. Hard working owner that covers everything, including the marvellous toasties. Well worth a visit. |
62 /100 Kingsmead Street Bottle (Bar) 2 KINGSMEAD STREET, BATH Friendly service. No wifi. Good selection but expensive prices. i paid 2.50 for a 1/3rd of a pint of beer |
68 /100 Raven (Bar) 6-7 QUEEN STREET Nice busy place. Free WiFi. Some outside seating. Not cheap. 2.20 for a half of their own beer. |
64 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST Nice place close to the spoons pub. Free ifi. Expensive beers though. 7 of their own beer in tap. They do flights of 3 thirds of a pint. Card only, no cash |
68 /100 Independent Spirit (Beer Store) 7 TERRACE WALK As the name suggests, plenty of spirits. Friendly service. Good selection of European beers and UK beers. |
62 /100 King of Wessex (JDW) (Bar) 5 JAMES STREET WEST Nice spoons. Free WiFi etc. Some outdoor seating. |
58 /100 Star Inn (Abbey Ales) (Bar) 23 VINEYARDS Visited July 2019. |
78 /100 Raven (Bar) 6-7 QUEEN STREET Visited July 2019. |
74 /100 Black Fox (Bar) 47 ST JAMES PARADE Great ambiance and decor, solid selection of local craft and cask beers, gins etc. Pub foody menu, we had sharers, excellent quality if a little pricey. possibly understaffed. |
62 /100 Bell (Bar) 103 WALCOT STREET Large traditional open plan pub a little way north of the city centre. Five or six beers on cask plus a couple of ciders. The range of beer wasn't terribly exciting but it was in good condition |
62 /100 Pig & Fiddle (Butcombe) (Bar) 2 SARACEN STREET Shabby chic pub close to the centre of the city. The place was heaving with pre-rugby game drinkers. Not a lot of excitement beer wise, perhaps 10 cask & keg choices from the Liberation Group and Bath Ales etc |
84 /100 Independent Spirit (Beer Store) 7 TERRACE WALK Well established bottleshop a few minutes walk from Bath Spa station. A large & varied range of the latest beers available. Lots of different whiskys and gins in the back room. Friendly, chatty staff. Worth a visit for sure |
66 /100 Black Fox (Bar) 47 ST JAMES PARADE Cosy pub serving a range of mostly local beers & ciders on both cask & keg. The food was tasty although not cheap |
52 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST Large, shabby chic pub / brewpub. This place needs some investment, it's grotty, there are fruit flies eveywhere and the gents toilets were frankly disgusting. Tried a few of the beers brewed on site, they were mostly rammed full of lactose, milkshake IPAs and the like. Lazy brewing. I'm unlikely to go back. |
56 /100 Old Green Tree (Bar) 12 GREEN STREET Nice flower decoration outside. A rather small and cozy traditional pub with two rooms. Five cask ales. Visited by students and tourists. Back street location in central part of town, just off New Bond Street. A bit slow and rather inattentive service. (Visited with Finn 27.10.2019). |
54 /100 King of Wessex (JDW) (Bar) 5 JAMES STREET WEST Modern ´spoons with a standard range of beers. |
62 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST Visited July 2019. Busy on this Tuesday night, telling you it will take an hour before your food will arrive. They have several beers from their own, to my taste not the best condition.. Staff seems very busy ( maybe even a bit stressed ).. I am not to keen on sharing my food and beer with lots of small flies... |
74 /100 Bell (Bar) 103 WALCOT STREET Visited July 2019. Friendly staff, serving ice water to everyone since its so hot.. ok selection of beers, served in ok condition.. Large bar, spacy and welcoming atmosphere.. |
70 /100 King William (Bar) 36 THOMAS STREET Visited July 2019. Smaller cosy old style pub with a modern style touch. A bit more than a bit of a walk from city center.. Nice selection of beers on tap, nice amount of seatings. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere.. |
60 /100 Star Inn (Abbey Ales) (Bar) 23 VINEYARDS Visited July 2019. Short walk from other beery places.. a bit worn out bar.. Friendly service, very quiet at our visit.. not the biggest beer list, beers served in good condition.. |
72 /100 Pig & Fiddle (Butcombe) (Bar) 2 SARACEN STREET Visited July 2019. Spacious pub with a beer garden in the back.. Nice selection of beers, being a butcombe pub mainly beers from them. Friendly service, good amount of seatings and the beers served in fine condition.. Free WiFi and showing Tour De France on tv... |
72 /100 Old Green Tree (Bar) 12 GREEN STREET Visited July 2019. Nice small cosy pub placed in a small street, next to a church. Friendly staff, beers served in good condition, and they have a house beer.. not the largest bar and not that many seats, but for sure worth a visit.. we got some action at our visit since they were topping up their cellar.. |
74 /100 Salamander (Bath Ales) (Bar) 3 JOHN STREET Visited July 2019. Placed in the town center easy to find. Mainly beers from Bath Ales on tap. Served with a smile and in ok condition. Good amou t of seatings. Large bar. Relaxing atmosphere and nice lounge music at our visit. Free WiFi. |
82 /100 Raven (Bar) 6-7 QUEEN STREET Visited July 2019. Short walk from the station, placed in city center. Large, very cosy pub. Nice line casks, and served in good condition.. Traditionel cosy atmosphere.. a place for the locals, but still welcoming strangers.. Free WiFi.. The pub has a couple of house beers, very nice ones.. |
62 /100 King of Wessex (JDW) (Bar) 5 JAMES STREET WEST Visited July 2019. Placed next to a fitness center.. very quiet this Tuesday morning. Nice and clean.. Friendly service. Beer wise the well known tap list for jdw pub. |
80 /100 Independent Spirit (Beer Store) 7 TERRACE WALK Great little bottle shop in central Bath handily placed close to the Railway Station. Lots of choice in here with a good mix of UK and imported beers. Friendly and helpful service from the owner, well worth seeking out when in Bath or further away for that matter. |
96 /100 Raven (Bar) 6-7 QUEEN STREET Small and cosy with great service |
64 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST This pub was right opposite my hotel & is well worth a visit to try a couple of there own beers as I did. |
76 /100 Independent Spirit (Beer Store) 7 TERRACE WALK Great bottle shop with a large selection of quality beers from the Bath region & further afield. The staff were friendly & helpful.

70 /100 14 JAMES STREET WEST Visited on Saturday 2nd FEbruary to watch Ireland (20) vs England (32 !!!) so the place was fairly packed with 2 screens offered for the rugby.
Oldish boozer with 2 rooms downstairs and a function room upstairs. The service wasn't bad considering the crowds but was default plastic glasses because of the occasion! Around a dozen beers on tap, perhaps 7 or so of their own, the rest guests. Mix of cask and keg and at least 2 beers that they had on the board were not available ... a bit annpoying ... just take them of the fecking board !!! Beers from their own range were adequate, mainly trad cask, nothing to set the world alight but at least no disasters ... think 3.0 - 3.4 kind of rates.
There were also a number of craft cans in the fridge, probably no new rates for the seasoned Ratebeerian but the likes of Lervig, Beavertown and Brewdog were represented.
Overall I'd definately recommend a visit here for some ticks if you're in Bath whilst without being blown away the brews are of a decent enough standard. |
