64 /100 12 – 14 ARCHES LANE, BATTERSEA POWER STATION
“Visited 7/3/2024. Small(ish) arch tap room, with extra seating outside. Very busy inside on this chilly March evening, so had to sit outside which was quite busy too. Had 11 Battersea beers on tap tonight. Offer flights of 4 x thirds. So tried 4. The beers I chose were ok, the stout being the best. Only about 10 minutes from the Battersea Power Station tube. Worth a visit (especially if you have time to check out the redevelopment of the power station and surrounding area).“

“Visited a few times since its opening in 2020, most recently during the Spoons Spring Beer fest in March 2023 - located on the corner of Lavender Hill right by Clapham Junction its well located so always pop by when visiting the excellent Eagle Ale House. Unlike the Eagle the cask condition here has been variable over my visits so always good to ask for a sample first here. Is fine during more quiet times but later weekday evenings and weekends this place is heaving and never seems to be enough staff on to cope on visits at that time. By no means a must visit destination but due to good location easy to pop by when visiting other places.“

“Surprised I had not rated this place as have visited this place countless times over the years, most recently March 2023 and is my no1 must visit place on each trip back to London to get my cask fix. Both the pub name and the beer sign outside are a clear indicator of the owners South London football allegiance, of which I thoroughly approve :) This is a traditional old school boozer both inside and out with a lovely interior with a cosy open fire in the colder months, and a small back beer garden for more clement times of year. There is some craft kegs and bottles but its always the new cask ticks here on every visit I go for and are always in great condition. Mostly from pretty small breweries and have scored quite a few new brewery ticks as well. The staff are great here and know their stuff, cask condition is exceptional hence why I visit so often. One of the best boozers in South London and demands a visit.“

“Had some time to kill, so after grabbing a quick lunch I headed in here. Ended up having a pre-exam third to steady the nerves. 5 beers on tap. If memory serves at least 3 were ticks but I thought it was wise to go for the 4% oone. Not a massive unit. 3 or 4 metres across by around 7. Beer fridges all down one side. Triple digit beer numbers. Organised by style, with a lot of local breweries plus those from further afield. Also cider, wine, etc. Would have bought some if I wasn't going to be out and about on a hot day. Friendly gut running the place. And, unlike some other local places, it is open during the day.“

“Supposedly the original Draft House pub, a chain that was brought into the Brewdog family some years ago. It's a nice cosy heritage pub with outside seating. A choice of around 15 beers, mostly (but not exclusively) on keg, and from a fair range of breweries including some local breweries. Sports shown on TV.“

“Visited early Saturday afternoon in November 2022. Good location and easy to find across from Battersea Park train station, this is a nicely presented Fullers pub that also features allot of other craft lines on tap and cask. Was drawn here by their well maintained and verified UT menu so bonus points for that which matches up with their UT big screen above the bar. They had both Verdant and Brew by numbers on cask, and both were new and I had to add to Ratebeer so gives you a good idea of the place. Lots of interesting breweries across their taps and of course some of their own fullers beers. Service was good and prices as expected for London, pretty surprised at the lack of reviews for this place, well recommended and you can build in a visit to Battersea Brewing Tap heading north to the power station, or Mondo and Distortion Brewing taprooms if heading south. Great place and well worth a visit.“

“Visited early afternoon on a Saturday in November 2022 and was actually the only person there on that visit. Nice typical railway arch location, with a well presented/layed out Brewery Taproom. Like the tanks with the LCDs showing the beers inside. Got a flight of beers and overall quality was pretty decent, get the impression it might of improved slightly since their first beers rated I noticed. Prices and service fine, overall well worth a visit and with Mondo a 10min walk away can do these 2 together, or a 15min walk up to the recommended Masons Arms if heading towards Battersea station.“

“Old school boozer, just off the Northcote Road, now sitting in the middle of an upmarket residential street. Inside is like going back in time. Simple furnishings, simple tables and wooden chairs. This is one of the few places in the area where you can be guaranteed fresh good real ale. Stick to the regulars like Surrey Hills. Usually about 5 or 6 cask ales on, a few decent kegs lines featuring local London beers like Kernel. Fridges have some interesting rarities like Cantillon. Service always friendly and helpful. They like to take care of the beer here. Hence the high score. Good cask beer is such a rarity.“

“Had a very quick visit here on a Saturday afternoon. It was the opening of the Battersea Power Station and the brewery was rammed. Seems like a nice enough spot. Under an arch, seating inside and out. Fairly commercial in feel. Decent range of beer across keg and cask. I only tried one house beer, an unfiltered lager, and it was pretty average. I’d like to return and try more of their range.“

“Just over Chelsea bridge and into the trendy Battersea Power Station area to find this brewery and its taproom under two railway arches. Dark lit taproom in brick and wood with outdoor seating in front of the entrance. No beer flights, so Finn and I shared some of their draught beers from half-pint glass. Polite service and music from Van Morrison in the back. (Visited with Finn 20.11.2021).“

“Visited on 21/11. I was obviously the first customer of the day (but about 1.5 hours after they opened) because the doors were accidentally still locked. Yet another railway arch venue - in this case right next to the main road. Also over the road from Wandsworth Rd station but services seem poor so I bussed it instead and my assumption that trains went to Brixton was wrong. If I remember correctly, there were 8 of their own beers on, plus a cider and a beer from another newer brewery in the vicinity, Dog's Grandad. The thing here is that the beers all come straight from the tap... and well... they were OK. 3 or 4 other people turned up when I was there. But it's a basic archway set up with room for a decent amount of people. The brewer was up for a bit of chat. He could turned his blues rock down though. Not a place I'd particularly head to again but it is between Clapham Junction and Vauxhall. Also if i was a local I probably would be happy enough to have tap nearby.“

“One of the best taprooms in London. They always have a great selection of their own beers on the draught lines and usually have at least one interesting American pour. Prices are reasonable and the beers go on tap here as soon as they're released. Service is really nice and the space is comfy. There's also free popcorn from the machine, which is an obvious win. There are a few taprooms and good beer spots to visit in Battersea, but this is the best one - a must, if you're in the area.“

“Up the hill east of the main road junction at Clapham Junction, before the next main interchange. This is a large mulit-roomed pub with not much natural light away from its outdoor space - the decor and setup is less planned than most places too. The bar is in an inside room and their own ales were still available when I visited in late 2019.“

“Large traditional urban pub on the corner of the ever-busy road junction at Clapham Junction, with the station just a couple of minutes walk away. A Nicholson's pub on my visit with plenty of cask options available including their range of regulars, the Victorian style interior is attractive and despite being a busy place it's an appealing place to drink. Food is served too.“

“West of Clapham Junction station, easily walkable and attractively modern inside, in a huge open-plan room with the long bar against the back wall. This place was absolutely packed on a Sunday afternoon in December, mainly with young couples and their children - looked like a car park for prams. The selection is limited to Youngs cask ale, but I did find a new keg lager from the brewer here.“

“A bit of a trek to get here as i got a train to Queenstown (I think?) and then had to walk down, before you go under the railway and track back on yourself. A medium sized archway set up. Utilitarian décor. It was actually quite busy - I guess it does quite well being surrounded by blocks of flats and the fact that it's in an entertainment area. 6 or so of their beers on plus a few guests? Chatty helpful barmaid. They were having technical issues so whilst they usually do thirds they were only able to offer that on one or two of the beers (can't remember now if the pumps were malfunctioning or if it was the till). Now that I've ticked off the brewery I am unlikely to return because it's not an area that I venture to. But, as I mentioned already, suspect that this is one bar that won't be too impacted by lockdown due to the number of what appear to be locals who frequent it.“

“West of Clapham Common on the main road, this is a small Fuller's shop unit conversion pub, which is nice enough in the traditional ilk. A small service area exists midway through the long and narrow ground floor room with seats front and back of this. The ale selection was all regular Fullers brews. Shows live football.“

“Off the lower more residential end of Northcote Road on its eastern side, this is a traditional pub midway up the road it sits on and is flanked by homes. It has a large enough concrete terrace outside and has a large open plan heavily wooden square drinking area. The bar itself is also square in design occupying one quarter towards the rear of the room. There's a limited selection of cask but Dorking microbrewery had a couple of its options available when I visited.“

“Wooden heavy corner pub, looks like an old establishment that's had an update and attracting a more gentrified customer than perhaps in the past. This place was heaving on a Sunday afternoon in December, lots of people eating, but despite a few crafted options on cask and keg at the bar, the selection was brews you often seen in capital in many venues.“

“Visited a couple of weeks ago but realised I hadn't rated the place. To be honest, I'd been caught out by BrewDog's change in opening hours, plus Drafthouse and We Brought Beer weren't open either. I came in via a side door and found myself in a large side, the one from which you can see brewing equipment. It was around 14:00 on a mid week so the central room with the bar seemed kinda sparse. Around 8 or so people.sat at tables but a few of these appeared to be staff. So a range of their beers and a couple from the main brewery in Brighton, plus a few guests. The range in the fridge was OK but not particularly inspiring, which also goes for their beers. Had some difficulties locating the gents, need up walking into some sort of music venue. Anyway, don't be back in a hurry, would have stayed in Mother Kelly's SE1 if I'd realised that nothing was open in Battersea.“

“This turned out to be an interesting one. Main area consists of three quite large rooms, two of them joining into main open space. Weird decoration and photos all over the place. In the back there is a very pleasant garden. I took the stairs upstairs and found out there is an upstairs level with arcades, table football and all sorts of games. We stayed in the bar room where band played some jazz. Ordered some hot chicken wings which were a good combo with beer. Selection, well, it's not the best. They do have some casks I haven't seen around, but the quality is OK at best. So it's no destination for tick looking beergeek, but we did spend a pleasant hour or so on Sunday afternoon here.“

“Visited 24/11/17. Walked past a number of times but never dropped in until that evening. Small pub, comes across as a former shop unit more than a pub. The place has been done up, like a lot of Fuller' s pubs, but looks like less has been spent on it. Comes across as a locals pub, but a friendly one. Only a few suits. The hip locals and yummy mummies head elsewhere. A cheery atmosphere. Staff were friendly but could have warned me that they were pouring acid down the urinals. I noticed the smoking liquid being poured down one of them but was allowed to have a slash. Later blokes were told to have a slash in the ladies. Beer options were limited. Only Pride and Seafarers on handpump - twice each. Same for the Sierra Nevada and Frontier - both on twice. Then some macro options and four or five Fuller' s bottles. Would drop in again if heading to/from Wandsworth. My local mate tells me they pull a good Pride.“

“Visited on a Sat. Location off the beaten track in Battersea, but a well kitted out and stylish taproom next to the brewery. Had a decent range of the breweries beers on tap although a few were unavailable and the barman didn't seem very clued up on what the beers were and what was on/off. Never-the-less a decent spot and a decent range of beers.“

“I did poke my nose in here on one occasion - I’d guess on the way to Powder Keg Diplomacy but I can’t recall. Probably very shortly after it opened in its current form. No cask beer but about 8 kegs. There was nothing of particular interest to me but I thought I should have a swift half. I didn’t notice, or survey, the bottle range. However, when nobody came to serve me after a couple of minutes I decided not to linger (and not to add the place to RateBeer). I was there long enough, I seem to recall, to get the feeling that the "back to school" theme seemed a bit contrived. In view of the other review I should probably take a better look to assess what’s on offer.“

“Small cozy place in the middle of nowhere, no convenient public transport in the proximity. Fairly crowded by young hipsters on a Saturday mid-afternoon. Wooden table and bar counter with large windows overlooking the brewing equipment. Large selection of house beers, including all regulars plus c.8 seasonals and 2 guests (Orbit, Edge). Dogs are allowed here. Overall, nice enough place but I won’t be returning any time soon due to inconvenient location and appalling service: the bartender was easily the most lazy, unhelpful, unfriendly and useless server ever met. I left annoyed before I could complete my drinking / purchasing here because of poor service.“

“05/08/16. Had never been here before but a couple of people were running late so stopped by after a pint at The Falcon. Nice enough on the outside, sterile dark wood refurbishment on the inside. Pretty boring selection, helpful barman. Sat in the outside patio area which was pleasent enough. They seemed to by trying to be fashionable - references to a Platform 18, the patio area? - and offering pulled pork and the like. But bog standard corporate pub.“

“Passed by it on 05/08/16 so dropped in. The good points are the 10 taps and 54 bottles. Possibly no new ticks for long time tickers but some decent craft beer from Britain, Belgium (even a couple of Cantillons), Gemany and the US. A couple of house beers which are all presumably rebadged de Hiyghes. However I scored low for ambiance because (a) it was dead, which is perhaps forgivable for mid afternoon. However (b) the other customers that were there were hipsters huddled around laptops and they seemed annoued that people were drinking and making a bit of noise. The barmaid was helpful enough, including checking which brewer provided their house pilsner, however it took forever to get a beer. She took the order and then brought it over, but it took at least 5 minutes for that to happen when no-one had ordered. Also confused by the whole theme - the bar is all shabby chique/industrial but is apparently supposed to like like a school - massive fail there. Also my school did not serves smoked beef.or lambics so not sure how it’s supposed to take me back to my schooldays? Only scoring 60 because of the beer array if you happen to be passing. Would be interesed in trying the food.“

It’s a modern space with lots of seating, most of it was reserved with no times on it and was pretty empty. Managed to find a spot to sit with a beer so all was well with the world. “Really useful pub as a meeting place. Right by the station and always a wide array of beers, real ales if not craft. Have to admit that the last time I was here I walked in through the right hand side door, walked the length of the bar, saw no ticks and then headed out of the left hand door, straight to Brewdog. However would have stayed for some drinks if I was with mates, keeps beer fans and Fosters fans happy. Can get absolutely rammed at peak times. Ate once and it was pretty uninspiring.“

“I wad pondering my review and have noticed that I am going to echo some prior comments. This was pub 4 on a crawl and was a complete change of pace. It was still later afternon, but where as the other pubs had been full of mums and the hip, this place was refreshingly quite. Just a couple of regulars, making me the only hip person there! Really relaxed old fashiones pub, at least when not busy. Decent enough choice of real ales. Have to admit I’ve not been back on subsequent visits to the area as I couldn’t be bothered to walk up there. However an antidote the modern bars nearer the station.“

“WOW, WOW, WOW. This place I have been looking forward to sit down and rate after my visit there. The place was located little away from the center of Battlesea and not a place you stumble into without looking for it. I came there just after 14:00 when they opened. The pub area is small with nice place to sit. Big windows in to the Brewery where you can see whats going on there. The brewery passed 1 year erlier this year so it is a "new" brewery, however they already have produced 26 beer in that time of what they had 11 available at the bar. My first tought was "26 first year , there must be low quality", then I checked RB and found that none of them where below 3 in avarage ratings. Personaly I tasted all the 11 they had available that day and I was impressed, lowest rating I gave on the 11 beers was 3.2. Congratulatons Mondo well done, keep up that good quality work. The bar had 15 Tap (11 own, 4 guest) and about 10 bottles, all own. The service was excelent and the lady behind the bar knew her products. I had some nice couple of hours there enjoying the good beer. This is now my new favorite place in London. If you have not been there you must!!! I will be back for sure. Visited 02.07.2016.“

“The Falcon is a fairly sizeable Nicholson’s pub which is well located right next to Clapham Junction Station (south side). Nice traditional character pub with a large island bar right in the middle. Boasts a fairly impressive selection of cask ales – some 16 hand pumps as well as some decent keg options and a few interesting bottles. Selection is unique to Nicholson’s pub chain with plenty of unusual stuff and the odd exclusive fest offering or two. I would say that the styles tend to be fairly safe i.e. hoppy blonde ales, stouts and bitters etc. It does however seem pretty busy most of the time when I visit. A well-located pub worth stopping past for a rate or two.“
